5000063 TC-14

TC-14 TC-14I hope everyone that wanted to managed to secure a 5000063 TC-14 minifig either in their local brand store or by ordering from shop.LEGO.com.  I bought a UCS R2-D2 at AFOLCON so received mine with it there.

It's a nice figure. The chrome plating is very good although as you can see the hands are light grey, which is a shame. I guess it's impractical or too expensive to plate them. It's certainly better that the gold-painted C-3PO, which is very unevenly coated.

Although it's made in China the properties of the different ABS that's used there are not evident because of course the parts are plated. However, as you can see in the picture, the torso is covered in micro-scratches. I've noticed this on collectable minifigs too. You never find them on figs made in other factories. They are only really visible when you hold it to the light, so not really much to worry about, and they don't detract from the desirability of the figure which is sure to rocket in value in the coming months; well, at least until it's offered as part of the next promotion, whatever that might be...

I don't reckon seeing the same amount of scratches on the chrome stormies. I wonder how these went into production?

It feels the same way as seeing a scratch on your new car...

Wow... scratches?

I may actually keep this guy in the package then. Then resell him in a few months.

I guess the longer they stay in their polybag the worse the micro scratches.
That is why mine will be open and placed in one of the Lego minifig cases so it
Can been seen and enjoyed.

The scratches are formed in the production process *before* they are painted: the printing is, as usual, pristine.

I ordered mine at Lego.com together with the UCS R2-D2 on may 4th at 0.03 hours... :-)

So far the order is still in process, so I'll have to wait. At first in patience, but now I want it so badly!!! I guess it will be a long week...

^^ The parts are chrome plated plastic.

@Huw : Also to note, due to the arms being attached during the coating process, there is chrome paint missing near the shoulders of the figure. The arms were raised above their heads.
Also, last night, we went to our local Lego store, and one of the employees showed us one of the TC-14 polybags. It had 2 heads and a torso but no legs. Somewhere someone may have received 2 legs and no head.

hi, where do I find this in the LEGO shop? Or is it only available in certain countries? ;-)

Posted by SD6 in Canada, 06 May 2012 12:38

^ it was free gift with minimum purchase during May the 4th and 5th at shop.lego.com or lego branded stores.

I have five of them if anyone wants to trade for something good.

I ordered a TIE Fighter and the "buildable galaxy" Death Star. TIE was out of stock so it should take a while but I got her! :D

^ thanks SD6

There may indeed be another chance to get one if you missed out. I passed by my local LEGO store today and they told me they had plenty left, but were waiting on direction from corporate about what to do with them. Don't be surprised if you see them for sale in bins in the stores in about 3 months...maybe for $3-5 (price is wild speculation on my part)?

^I heard the same thing at the Brighton Lego store this afternoon. They had about 30 left but they would not let me buy one and were awaiting further instruction on what to do with them.

I ordered mine just before midnight because the site had the offer available. I ordered the r2-d2 set. It was shipped by 10:30am and had had it by Saturday morning! Talk about fast shipping! Everything was in great shape!!!!

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 06 May 2012 21:39

I was told by a Lego store employee that any TC-14's left have to go back to Lego Company.

My Millenium Falcon still hasn't shipped, but at least I got TC-14.But I wish TC-14 had the original 3po torso design instead of the ugly new one.

Where can I buy this robot?

Posted by rockbrick in Gibraltar, 07 May 2012 03:49

All sorts of prices on Fleabay........

This may sound sad to those that dont have one but I hope they don't release anymore as it make those out there already even more special.

Posted by voypro in United States, 07 May 2012 07:07

With a slight bit of regret, i did not make a May the 4th order to get one. I have all the Star Wars sets I want right now, and could not justify buying more for one mini-fig. I'll pick it up on ebay later when a glut of the surplus figs hit for $19.99 or whatever.

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 07 May 2012 08:08

vopro, why didn't you just return a few sets and rebuy them??

Posted by Gymboin in United Kingdom, 07 May 2012 09:20

I heard there's going to be a new c-3po later this year? Anybody hear the same?

Posted by linlsw in Taiwan, Province of China, 07 May 2012 13:49

@Gymboin - Do you mean a new chrome C-3PO or regular one? Isn't there a new edition in set 9490 already?

Posted by Gymboin in United Kingdom, 07 May 2012 14:05

@linlsw - A new chrome one like the last run of 10000. I read it on some guys blog. He said he heard it from a lego designer.

Posted by Gymboin in United Kingdom, 07 May 2012 14:13

Also if you think about it Star Wars was aired on May 25, 1977. On May 25, 2012, it's the 35th anniversary. Releasing a new chrome figure could happen for that?

Posted by dougts in United States, 07 May 2012 17:11

^ something tells me this TC-14 is the one the designer was referring to. Chromed? check. New Wired version: check.

It's exactly the same design as the new C-3PO, just in a different color. It came out pretty close to summer. Odds that they are going to do another chrome C-3PO this summer? Seems highly unlikely to me.

Posted by Gymboin in United Kingdom, 08 May 2012 00:25

Yeah I must say I thought that but when you think the blog was only written 5 weeks ago and you would think a designer like Chris Bonven Johansen would know his TC-14 from a C-3PO ? Who knows I guess only time will tell but I for one hope there is a 35th year figure about to drop :-)

Where did this promotion happen? Only in UK and US?
Where will the Hulk minifig promotion happen?
