    10228: Haunted House
    Monster Fighters, 2012
    More details...
    ©2012 LEGO Group

The Haunted House, that was inadvertantly revealed in the Town Hall designer video a few months ago, has been officially unveiled today, at the 20th Anniversary of The Mall of America LEGO store celebrations.

When I first saw the pictures yesterday, I was taken aback by how stunning this is. It looks fantastic from the outside, like the archetypal haunted house featured in countless movies, with boarded up windows, peeling plasterwork to expose the bricks underneath and broken shutters and railings. But it doesn't end there: it's a proper 4-walled building that's hinged on one side to reveal a highly-detailed interior complete with kitchen, bedroom and attic.

If that's not enough to get you excited, it features 6 great minifigs: male and female vampires, a zombie chef, a Frankenstein's monster-like butler and two of the new glow-in-the-dark ghosts. The rest of the Monster Fighters range doesn't do much for me, but I will definitely be getting this. Unfortunately we have to wait until September before we can buy it :-(

You can see all 23 images that LEGO provided on the set details page.

    Here's the description from LEGO:

    10228 Haunted House
    Ages 14+.  2,064 pieces. US$179.99, CA$199.99, DE €149.99, UK £119.99, DK 1499 DKK

Enter the Haunted House at your peril!

The crooked Haunted House is home to the scariest ghosts and monsters. Tremble in fear as you open the gate, go weak at the knees as you step onto the porch and gasp in horror at the fireplace, kitchen, office, folding staircase, bedroom, potion room, music room and collection of other creepy objects. Dare you enter the Haunted House?!

    • Add to your LEGO® Monster Fights Collection with the first officlal LEGO® Haunted House!
    • Includes 6 minifigures: 2 glow-in-the-dark ghosts, Vampyre, Vampyre's Bride, Zombie chef and butler
    • Features unique ‘crooked’ design featuring boarded up windows and working front gate.
    • Haunted House opens to reveal detailed interior with 3 floors.
    • First floor features fireplace that swings open and displays a ship in a bottle on the mantle.
    • Cook up a ghoulish meal with the Zombie chef in the kitchen complete with old-style stove, jars and table.
    • Write letters from the Vampyre’s haunted office.
    • Pull the lever hidden in the chimney to release the drop down staircase and access the top floor.
    • Top floor features gramophone, records and newspaper LEGO® elements.
    • Customize the Haunted House with new stickers for wall hangings, spider webs and curtains.
    • Measures 15.4” (39cm) high, 9.4” (24cm) wide and 7.5” (19cm) deep

This looks amazing! lets hope to get an inside view before the release date

Posted by TheKingOfBuilding in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 13:16

^ Look in the set details page (the link is in the article)

This is fantastic! I love the zombie heads used as decorations at the front. But wait a minute, its a Monster Fighters set with no monster fighters?

Posted by dougts in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:17

^ look at the set page, lots of interior pictures.

This is awesome. and sand green too. fully interior detailing, tons of exterior detail. can't say enough good about this one.

Posted by typo in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:19

Immediate buy...PERIOD...

Posted by derfazoid in Switzerland, 09 Jun 2012 13:19

Totally sold on this one :) Now no need to get the big castle anymore!

Posted by thesinisterpenguin in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 13:22

This is awesome! I thought it was a modular at first, but I guess it could be adapted quite nicely to fit the end of the street!

Posted by dustinmroberts in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:22

This look amazing! I only wish it was compatible with the previous Modular Buildings line...that would make it even better!

Posted by Paul Boratko in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:25

Awesome.. My wife has been looking forward to this for a few months...

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:29

180? Ouch BUT theoretically you can make one of two houses.. a haunted house, or spend some time and make it look like a regular house, or make it look like a home being 'flipped'/restored (anyone make the guys for 'This Old House' for their display yet? :-) ).
Now if LEGO did that then that would be cool.. a 2N1 if you will.. either way looks nice, but I do not see spending retail for this.. will wait for sales/BOGO's

Posted by dougts in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:35

^ disagree with the desire to have it attach to existing modulars. doesn't fit the lineup at all, and that limits what the designers can do - couldn't hinge open, no side details, etc. Those who want to add it to modular street can easily MOC it that way, but their choice to make it a standalone was 100% the correct one.

Posted by byobu in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:51

AAAAARRRGGGHHH so many amazing buildings .... so little MONEY!!!!!!

You can still put this at the edge of the modular town.... across the (brick) swamp... :)

Posted by princedraven in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 13:52

Interesting that they branded it Monster Fighters in the end.

Was expecting one of these themed sets every year for Halloween (ala Winter sets for Xmas), but can't see Monster Fighters being a brand that they use each year.

Posted by byobu in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:54

ZOMBIE CHEF! hired by the zombie newly weds in set 9465 I am sure ....

{Yes, there is a monster fighter ... he's been turned in the zombie chef!}

Posted by dougts in United States, 09 Jun 2012 13:54

^ definitely a one-off, which I expected. As a direct/exclusive though, I didn't think it would be branded Monster Fighters either. Still not sure how I feel about that aspect of it.

Posted by ktranger in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 13:55

Wow... and there's another reason my wallet is usually empty... Thank Lego!

Posted by max villano in Greece, 09 Jun 2012 13:56

Fantastic set!!! ls it going to be realesed worldwide??Because l live in greece.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:01

This is brilliant. I was really disappointed in the Town Hall, seeing it in the flesh I thought it just didn't have any wow factor, but this has blown me away. Well done Lego.

Posted by ingotheranchhand in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:03

Frankenbutler! Holy hell is this an amazing set.

Posted by devilhead in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:03

I'm not the least bit interested in the Monster Fighters theme, but this set looks absolutely fantastic. I agree that it would work well in a LEGO city featuring the modular buildings... wether it's an abandoned house, a remodel being worked on, or a fully restored house.

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 09 Jun 2012 14:05

I'm throwing money at the screen and nothing is happening D:

Posted by jengafett in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:05

when I first saw the picture I thought it was about £250! so cheap, and the walls look real!!!

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:05

This looks similar to the "Psycho House" in the Alfred Hitchock film.

Posted by wRuB in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:09

Agree with @goldfish. Was really disappointed with town hall when I saw it at a brand store, but this!! Can't wait to have it!

Posted by byobu in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:13

Yes the Psycho House is what makes me want this. (Reason #1)

Zombie Chef (reason #2) and Frankenbutler (reason #3).

Thanks for giving all the reasons, haunted house forum!

I'd wish I could throw $$$ to the screen and then reach in and get it! (Save on shipping! :D)

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:14

Want, want, want....
And I agree, pretty reasonable price!

Posted by gifinim in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:16

September? I can't wait that long! Damn!

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:20

They should have given the Zombie Chef the cook book: 'How to Serve Man'

Posted by Ulli in Germany, 09 Jun 2012 14:20

September?
It´ll come at the right time for the Halloween decoration! :-))

Posted by Soundczar in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:20

I have no interest in the Monster Fighters theme, but this is going on my must buy list. It will fit in great in a modular city in a neighborhood with many of he Creator houses. Great job TLG!

Posted by sloopsjohng in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:30

Wasn't completely sold based on the exterior shot ('tis a lot of money for a single, non-series set (i.e. modulars)), but the hinged design and interior shots are definitely selling it for me.

We aren't expecting another modular until 2013, right? *counts money*

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:31

This is seriously cool. LEGO Addams Family anyone?

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 09 Jun 2012 14:33

Oh my... NPU galore here. Wizard hat as gramophone "speaker", skeleton arms as... er, I don't know what over the bedroom, shotgun as a mixing paddle, fences for the foldable stairs... we have a potential legend here.

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:36

What a fantastic set and a UK realistic price too, well done Lego. I can't wait.

Posted by H5N1 in Germany, 09 Jun 2012 14:36

One of the best Lego sets ever! Have to convince my wife so she lets me buy it!!

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:38

This is incredible - i probably wont get this due to modulars that I'd rather get which go more with my others however this is awesome! :D I really love the cobweb sticker on the clear window panel - there are just so many details

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:45

Gramophone! Sounds good to me (pun not intended) and the set itself looks superb. The price is not too bad (for the UK at least) so I will probably pick this set up.

Posted by lippidp in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:47

Totally, well, killer! I'm surprised it took so long for them to cash in on Halloween! If all the stars align, TRU will offer this and R2-D2 at MSRP and we can score a BOGO 50% off. One can only hope...

Posted by mrloony in United States, 09 Jun 2012 14:56

I've always thought the modular build houses were way to expensive, and this one doesn't fail my expectations. $180? Sheesh. You can see how Lego is gearing towards AFOLs and not the average buyer.

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 14:57

Holy bricks this is simply amazing! :O Brilliant set, I love it!
Much better buy than the already awesome Vampyre Castle, which says a lot.

Posted by sudorum in United States, 09 Jun 2012 15:09

I would rather buy expensive sets that are incredibly detailed like this than buy cheaper ones that are poorly designed.

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 09 Jun 2012 15:10

It's a fabulous looking set, but what pleases me the most is the accurate pricing. Definitely going to snag this baby!

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 15:11

Still want the whole MF theme, i'm just adding this to the list! looks really nice. Loving the little details, heart in a jar, zombie heads on the porch columns, etc. Sand green, and the Frankenbutler and zombie chef are brill.

Posted by Krivorn in United States, 09 Jun 2012 15:18

need.

Posted by legopants in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 15:26

Deffo want this set.
I certainly know how I shall be spending my VIP points - if I can hold on to them until September :-S

Posted by mountebank in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 15:29

This is the set of the year for me.

Although if that turns out to be untrue then I'll be even more over the moon.

Posted by LegoLisa in United States, 09 Jun 2012 15:32

I am so excited for this set! To me, this set will be worth every single penny. :) Yay!

Posted by Mickitat in Germany, 09 Jun 2012 15:36

I will glady skip any new Star Wars or LOTR sets for this one (or two or three).

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 09 Jun 2012 15:42

Is that pricing for real? It'll only cost $20 more in Canada...? I certainly won't complain about that!

I'm already clearing a space for it. If the world ends in 2012 I'll die a happy AFOL! *LOL*

Posted by johnnyfinlandia in Finland, 09 Jun 2012 15:52

What does the -1 on 10228-1 signify? 1st Edition? I have noticed it on a few sets? This does look great though :)

Posted by TekkamanRaiden in Canada, 09 Jun 2012 16:01

Wow that looks awesome, guess I'll be adding another on to my want list.

Posted by mountebank in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 16:04

It's just occurred to me that as Imperial Flagship is (was) to Pirates, Haunted House is to Monster Fighters.

Posted by BJMdotLEGO in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 16:08

Insane set. Well, guess I'll be sending some money to S@H soon. The gramophone player! The ladder!

Posted by Orthobotrex in Philippines, 09 Jun 2012 16:37

I wouldn't want to fit this in a modular town. It will only unflatter the nice angles on the side. Besides, things like these are up for demolition, LOL.

Now, if only they places some grey hands and arms in that big cauldron of theirs.... ;-)

Posted by DaveBey in United States, 09 Jun 2012 16:52

Did anyone else start humming some Bobby "Boris" Pickett when they saw the picture of the zombie butler and gramophone? "The zombies were having fun; the party had just begun... They played the mash. They played the monster mash."

Best.Set.Ever.

I think I just had a Legogasm.

Posted by __billybobjoe in United States, 09 Jun 2012 17:01

Huw, you got a little typo: not a lot of people know this, but Frankenstein was actually the mad scientist who created "the monster"

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 17:13

@billybobjoe - I think quite a lot of people know that. The monster itself should be called Frankenstein's Monster as it is in Mary Shelley's book.

Posted by mountebank in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 17:18

Yeah CapnRex101 that fact seems to be a commonplace in the UK.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 09 Jun 2012 17:28

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 09 Jun 2012 17:48

Posted by yys4u in United States, 09 Jun 2012 17:56

@billybobjoe yea but I think a lot of people know that lol, as a matter of fact I don't know anyone who DOESN'T know that.

CapnRex101 is right though, the correct way to say it would be Frankenstein's Monster or the Frankenstein monster

Posted by TheMinifigFreak in United States, 09 Jun 2012 18:16

My first thoughts were just WOW! I was so disappointed when the zombies and ghosts were in the big sets, but both in one and that amazing house, EPIC!

Posted by JohnnyB in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 18:20

This looks great. Higher priced than what I go for but maybe this will ne the exception. It looks amazing and will be valuable in the future. I can't imagine when its discontinued... Have to get it.

Posted by chadm76 in United States, 09 Jun 2012 18:35

I've finally seen this years 'must have' set.
That is by far the most exciting release of the year for me, and I'd even go as far as to say this is the most exciting release in the last two years.
I can't wait to get it!

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 19:13

Oh, and can I just add:
Wooden floorboard tiles! Female vampire! Tan bushes! LP record tiles! - That's my dream parts list right there. Awesome!

I have no room left in my house for more LEGO but I'm buying this anyways!

Posted by LuvKernow in United Kingdom, 09 Jun 2012 19:37

They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family.
Their house is a museum
Where people come to see 'em
They really are a scream
The Addams Family.
(Neat)
(Sweet)
(Petite)
So get a witches shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We're gonna pay a call on
The Addams Family

I want this so much and cant wait for this and will build a small hill for this at the end of my modular street with a few lego gravestones on the hill side :)

Posted by Routemaster in Germany, 09 Jun 2012 21:09

Great news! Awesome Set. Good to hear it's release is in September.
Need some "fresh air" first! All the pricey sets the last months ....the Town Hall, last months new release UCS R2-D2,
the today finished Sopwith Camel....thought I could relax now somehow. LOL. And my six year old daughter wants some more Friends sets.
Lego you gonna kill me. LOL

Posted by meclo in Canada, 09 Jun 2012 21:58

What an amazing set!! I've been waffling on the Monster Fighters stuff (mainly due to the $$$, not the awesomeness, which this series has in spades), but this set takes the (zombie-made) cake!

That being said, $200CAD, that's a bit pricey! This set seems to be similar in size (and piece count) to 10217-1 Diagon Alley, which is a licensed set with almost 2X the minifigs. Shouldn't a non-licensed set be considerably cheaper? Come on Lego, cut a guy a break! =P

That being said, I still want it...

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 09 Jun 2012 22:06

Oh my glob! This looks like such a great set. Definitely a must buy for me. I only wish it had more advanced building techniques. But it looks AWESOME! Puts the rest of the Monster Fighters line to shame. My list of must-have LEGO sets just got bigger!

List of Lego Sets I want (need):
-The entire Lord of the Rings line. $373
-UCS R2-D2 $180
-Sopwith Camel $100
-Fury Class Interceptor $90
-Haunted House $180

That adds up to $923! Oh dear!

Posted by yys4u in United States, 09 Jun 2012 22:44

^ Haha I recently was bored and added all the sets I want on S@H, my cart was up to $2000+ and like I think around 100 bucks or more for shipping. Yet I still only qualified for 1 Hulk Promo fig Haha!

Posted by Revenant in United States, 09 Jun 2012 23:27

Please correct the article title! "Unvealed" has never been a word, and won't be unless you can resurrect a calf. The word you were likely after is "unveiled".

Posted by johnnie_tee in Singapore, 09 Jun 2012 23:40

this looks fantastic. if it's a haunted house, it has to be a standalone showpiece. i totally dig this one!!! well done! i'm gonna get 2 sets. one for build and one for keep. this is the only monster fighter set i will get apparently.

Posted by T-Lars in United States, 10 Jun 2012 00:10

Great, I just get caught up with the modulars and now they throw this at me! Then it's going to cost me a bit more to call in the Ghostbusters to de-haunt this thing, not to mention new floors, windows, cabinets, paint (I'm thinking dark red would look really, really cool)... man, it's expensive to rehab a Victorian.

Posted by Penkid11 in United States, 10 Jun 2012 01:45

September? Just in time for my b-day... and double stamp month!!

Posted by M-Tron Hero Kodiak in United States, 10 Jun 2012 01:55

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 10 Jun 2012 02:48

I think it's brilliant. Every town needs a spooky, Victorian haunted house. And now our Lego cities will have one! I'm onboard. Plus I love that the ghost-figure is back.

Posted by erbse2000 in Germany, 10 Jun 2012 05:00

Must have!!!!!!

Posted by Sparky Ham in Hong Kong, 10 Jun 2012 06:54

I'm pleased it's a stand-alone; my modular street has become unmanagably long, and I'm looking to break it up into more of a town-block, with parks and stand-alone houses like this one. Will probably buy two sets to cover the open sides. Glad to see more sand-green, and I love the little gramophone.

Finally, a home for all my CMF monsters - I think they deserve one! : )

Posted by brixton in Canada, 10 Jun 2012 07:47

^ That's an awesome idea. It's the CMF monster house.

The price is in line with the modular buildings. Considering that this house is on a similar scale, the price isn't higher than what LEGO usually charges for these type of sets.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 08:28

The interior is a little disappointing for me. I was hoping there'd be lots of trap-doors, moving bookcases and paintings, that sort of thing. Plus a tiled wooden floor would have been nice.

However, the exterior is stunning! So much detail, I love it. The windows and the side entrance are my favourite parts. I'm not overly keen on the zombie heads (why are they there? And some variety would be good) but they'd be easy to mod and an lot of zombie heads could only be a good thing.

Plus that zombie chef torso is just fab!

Posted by Arubariba in United States, 10 Jun 2012 09:04

Easy one of the best sets ever made, period!

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 09:40

@ Gregorovich - yeah your right, I think a wooden planked floor is what's missing

Posted by multani in Canada, 10 Jun 2012 10:18

Monster fighters is the best theme this year, and this by far is the best set. I'll be getting this not only since it's amazing, but with the inclusion of a zombie chef how could I not? Being a chef, that's how I look most days, covered in blood and a blank vacant stare. Perfect.

Posted by Brickarmor in United States, 10 Jun 2012 10:33

I just read all 99 previous comments.

How frequently does a new set receive such unanimous popularity? Even where some reservations are expressed, something else still makes the set a 'must have.' Just...wow. Might never go on sale if we keep up this level of enthusiasm!

Posted by The Big Legoski in Netherlands, 10 Jun 2012 11:51

Flabbergasting jaw-dropper!!!
Wow! This is a total must-have!
What a beautiful set. Plus, I think this set is also extremely MOC'able.

Posted by recon in United States, 10 Jun 2012 12:30

Why is everyone stoked about the price? The price is what immediately made me say ok it looks cool but too expensive. At least the Town Hall has 700 more pieces to justify it's price increase over the Pet Shop. I know this isn't a modular with basic figs and a lot of people cheese out over zombies and vampires. I know crude oil keeps climbing in price but it's too doll house like and boring on the inside to justify the price imo. But I do agree it looks fantastic on the outside.

Posted by SuperChris in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 14:03

This set is more than wonderful. I try to limit myself to one LEGO set ever year (as the person above said, it's an expensive hobby otherwise) and I can't wait to get my hands on this!

Posted by SuperChris in United Kingdom, 10 Jun 2012 14:36

I should reword that - 1 'big' set ever year! Mainly due to money/space. It makes getting a set like this even more special!

Posted by __billybobjoe in United States, 10 Jun 2012 15:46

^^ yep I can't afford much big ones either. right now, my biggest is Diagon Alley (2025 pieces) and second biggest is the Republic Dropship and AT-OT at 1758 pieces(got that for Christmas).

Also looks like the Star Wars blu-ray set I got on sale yesterday and had not opened yet will be getting returned to put towards this. Awesome looking set for the price and look forward to building this when it hits in the US. Hopefully they will have another free shipping deal around then. I have and put together all of the other Monster Fighters sets released in the US so far. Was kind of disappointed the last set looked to be the Zombies so this is a great surprise for me as I was sort of thinking this was going to be a Halloween addition to the modular buildings. Also get two new versions of the Monsters and more Ghost.

Holy cats, and I haven't even managed to get my Kingdoms Joust yet, or the LotR sets! Lego just keeps piling it on. This is jaw-dropping.

I agree that the interior looks a little... bare. But then I like my haunted mansions looking a little bit more like opulent Victorian decay in stasis rather than Spooky Squatters. Needs more furniture and brik-a-brak and stuffed birds in jars. I'll just have to dress it up a bit: some more candelabras, skeleton in the corner, some proper tattered drapes on that bed, a set of haunted armor here and there. That'll make it feel as homey as a velvet-lined mahogany coffin.

Oh boy oh boy!

I would say I can't wait, but I have to have some time to save my pennies. O_O

I have ZERO interest in modular sets, But I will definitely buy this.

This is pretty impressive

Posted by Kez in United Kingdom, 11 Jun 2012 12:15

There is the official press release video of this set which is on eurobricks.com or on you tube, (the designer seems very nervous).

Posted by Kez in United Kingdom, 11 Jun 2012 12:48

^when I did it before I posted my comment it worked fine, there is also another website that it worked fine on, it is called fbtb.net I hope that helps.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 11 Jun 2012 12:50

^^^Wow he really does sound nervous! Odd because he frequently makes these videos. But he can be forgiven for creating such a wonderful set.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 11 Jun 2012 13:06

Nice video :) I think part of the hesitation was trying to speak english correctly as well as nerves

Just needs a scary dead tree in the yard...otherwise perfect!

Looks like it could be one of the great Lego sets. I like stand-alone bigger sets that aren't modular. Hopefully they make more like this.

Still have to complain about the price though. Why does Lego have to be an expensive hobby? I bought the Vampire Hearse the other day for $38 (with tax). 11 cents per piece is lame. Guess they don't mind gouging us while the times are good for them. And with the licensed themes, the shops, and its popularity, I don't see this changing any time soon.

I've cut back on purchases, one day I might have to stop altogether, sad. It's like, would I like to buy a new games console or by a Lego set?

Posted by sondun2001 in United States, 11 Jun 2012 19:35

A game console won't be worth the $200 a few years later, this set could be worth hundreds more if you keep it in good shape. Lego's to me are a great hobby, that doesn't loose its value if you take care of them :)

@alorian - You have a very good point about the interior. It does seem a little bit of a missed opportunity. Even if they couldn't do trap doors, secret passages and other things like that, I do think a little more furniture and decor would've been nice.

On the bright side, all that unused floorspace in the interior does allow people to customize and create their own furnishings, assuming you have that skill (which I sure don't).

Posted by bcontant in Canada, 11 Jun 2012 22:38

It's awesome. I just wish it had a new color palette instead of being an obvious dump for leftover Harry Potter bricks.

After seeing the video I have to say - this is simply one of the best sets I have seen in a very long time. This beats all the other sets I have on my wish list easily. It is one of those rare sets where price per piece simply does not matter, where I am gladly willing to pay a premium for the fantastic design. Wow, I am sooo impressed. I will buy at least three. Oh, the details are so great! The ideas! A broken bed, the gramophone with the helmet piece, just wow.

It bears an uncanny resemblance to this MOC from 6 years ago:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Kenn/Trains/NILTC/LaGrange-06/haunted.jpg
Does anyone know who built that?

This is definitely going on my already considerable shopping list for 2012. It's beautiful and full of great details. And 2000+ parts for €150 is decent value for money.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 12 Jun 2012 09:24

Thats weird, I found that same moc when i searched lego haunted house the other day and I thought exactly the same! I can't believe that this is a coincidence - maybe the designer based his design on the moc??

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 12 Jun 2012 10:35

^^ wow, that's pretty much exactly the same. Down to the layout, colour and window frames. All it's missing is the shutters and boards. Too close for a coincidence surely?

This is a great set, would have loved to see maybe a Bride of Frankenstein fig, but perhaps that would have been too close to the Munsters, and some more stuff going on inside (maybe a grand piano or pipe organ and a revolving mirror/bookcase etc) but seriously tempting purchase.

Would look great with the Monster Fighters hearse parked outside. And the new Frankenstein's monster fig is pure win, he even refers to it as Lurch! Just need to put some short legs on chewbacca for a cousin It.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 12 Jun 2012 12:38

^ very good idea for cousin it! Just need a chewbacca figure now.
At last a home for the CM monsters in my city! I was planing to buy the castle and three of the smaller sets, but now I need this. As a massive fan of the Munsters and the Adams Family, this is a must buy. The stickers to add detail to the windows, the details inside and out, the minifigures, this has to be one of the best sets of all time. Just need a big box to live in after all these good sets come out!
Now I need the hearse...

@Duq: Thanks for posting that link.

The two sets have too many similarities. That is a very big coincidence.

Posted by Kramden in United States, 12 Jun 2012 23:28

There is a post at eurobricks with comments from the 10228 designer that he never used anyone's design and never looks at brickshelf or Flickr for any ideas and is only a Munster's fan, but as said above, way many too detailed similarities. The designer also said that he never did a building prior to this. Has a designer ever come out like this to defend him(her)self?

Here is the post #188

While the designer as an AFOL is _best known_ for his vehicles he has done buildings before. I guess he meant he hasn't done a building before as a Lego set designer.
I don't think a designer has defended himself like this before but I also can't remember a designer coming under fire like this before.
Anyway, I think it's unfortunate, nothing more. I agree with the designer that it's great for Lego to be producing a set like this.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 13 Jun 2012 11:57

I still don't believe that he didn't copy it - look at the black tops of the windows - almost exactly the same. And the pillars at the front - very very similar. Don't get me wrong, I think the set's amazing, I just don't understand how there can be one so similar

Posted by audiobean in Singapore, 14 Jun 2012 02:00

Ha, I agree that comparing the two it does look too much of a resemblance especially the façade, roofing, and arch. However, not making any judgement here.

Posted by Nikola Bathory in Bulgaria, 14 Jun 2012 05:55

What a great Haunted house!
As for the resemblance with that MOC - yes, it's true that the two looks very similar... I don't know. Using a MOC as an ispiration isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

Posted by legokenny in United States, 14 Jun 2012 12:17

Has anyone noticed that the ghosts have white minifigure legs in some pictures and in others just a white brick???

Posted by schwarzkopf in Germany, 16 Jun 2012 02:35

"10228 Haunted House
Ages 14+. 2,064 pieces. US$179.99, CA$199.99, DE €149.99, UK £119.99, DK 1499 DKK"

It is already listed at shop.lego.de in Germany for 179,99€! I really hope that is a mistake otherwise
I have to wait until the set will be discounted.
