    As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, here is the first glimpse of some of the new Hobbit minifigures.  From left: Gandalf, Dwalin, Bombur, Bofur, Bilbo and Balin.  Per the article, the Hobbit set(s) will release in mid December here in the U.S.  Though I haven't read the Hobbit yet, I think these figures really look splendid and are a great followup to those in the first LotR wave of sets.  What do you think?

I'm a big fan of the Hobbit book and the LOTR books and movies, but I have not yet warmed up to the character designs of the dwarves that I've seen in the trailers for the Hobbit movies. Based on reading the book a multiple times (but not in the past few years), in my mind, all the dwarves were pretty indistinguishable except for the fact that some wore blue clothes or wore red clothes. I really just expect them all to look like 13 copies of Gimli from LOTR. The dwarves in the trailer are very individualized and perhaps a little too wacky looking, in my opinion. So that style carries over to the minifigures, for better or worse. That said, these look like some nice new minifigure parts! Just in time for Christmas!

Can't wait to get the LOTR sets. And with those new Hobbit sets, it will be the best theme ever. Also a follow-up on the LOTR sets with Treebeard and a piece of Rivendel would be great. I will continue collecting the Star Wars UCS sets, but LOTR & Hobbit rule!!!

Are we going to get some UCS-sets in this theme too??? Imagine sets of about 3,000 pieces and then built your own Orthanc, Barad-Dûr of the great Argonath? I'm drooling already...

These are Epic! I cannot wait to see Oin, Gloin, Fili, Kili, Nori, Ori, Dori, Bifur, and Thorin as Minifigs. Gandalf looks the same, but that is expected.

The revealed dwarves seem to be quite accurate and detailed.

Is there any mention of the UK release date? Beaccause if the LOTR ditribution pattern continues, they may not get the sets until February.

Bofur Bilbo and Balin are really cool, and the others are nice as well. I'm definitely hyped for Hobbit sets.

The Hobbit was the only book from the series I've read. I'm sure I'll be getting much of these.

How many times have I read "The Hobbit" and the trilogy? I've lost count. And no, it isn't senility setting in as I'm too young for that!

Is anyone going to the SD Comic-Con? Please share photos if you do. I understand Peter Jackson is one of the presenters.

The one scene I really hope TLG recreates is Bilbo sneaking into Smaug's Den, where Bilbo finds... Naw, I'm not going to spoil it. Read the book, fellow bricksetters.

(Just as I posted this I see Goldchains mentions Smaug too -- I agree.)

I see there are links to Hobbit sculptures, etc., in the Forum thread, too.

I think I better start saving, because they'll probably be strategically placed in the sets to where I'll have to buy all of them to get all the minifigs. Oh well. :)

I was never really a huge fan of the new dwarves on film, and I don't think they look any better in LEGO. I will, however, look forward to seeing Bilbo, Smaug, Bard and all the elves and White Council members in minifig form.

So this first wave is only going to be for the first Hobbit movie (An Unexpected journey), right? That means we'll have to wait another year or more to see sets based on the second half of the story (Smaug, Bard, Mirkwood, ect...), that's assuming we even get sets based on the second movie.

Oh, these figures look great! These new dwarven molds are much more like new SW painted heads than "classical" pieces and decals that we've got in LOTR sets. It seems to me that I'll get the full dwarven crew using BrickLink... Even if it will be very expensive.
Not sure about Thorin, we haven't seen him in LEGO yet, but I don't like the new movie version...

I reckon we will see some of the hobbit sets when it is July 12th because that is when I think the sdcc 2012 starts, wouldn't it be great if there was some exclusive giveaways of these figures.

What I am thinking is "go read the book it is one of your country's national treasures, great literature and a must read" (and - very much unlike the LOTR movies - great art).

'The Hobbit' is hardly 'great art'. It is certainly a classic and an English national treasure, but it's written as a children's book, and contains a pretty simple linear story. It contains nowhere near the intricacies of The Lord of The Rings books, and when I read it (after having read LotR) the "...and then they this... and then they did that..."-structure sometimes got to be a drag.
I have no kids, but I'd sure 'The Hobbit' makes for great bed-time stories though. And these Lego sets will make it a lot easier to act out those stories!

These minifigures look splendid indeed! Being a huge fan of the Hobbit and LOTR books these look awesome! I love how they have seemed to have added a piece to Bombur to make him look fatter, pure genius!

Well, there is a little problem.
In the first minutes in the HR article, they were saying that these minifigs comes from set no 79***
(5 or six numbers), and as title of article says - it could be exclusive.
So I am little worried... Maybe minifigures in sets will get other printing,
and some of them won't be available in reguar sale. :?

Wasn't really impressed by LotR, but these ones look good.
Though now we wait and see how many and how expensive sets these figures are spread across.

@bezetkace: no need to worry. The 'exclusive' Hollywood Reporter is refering to is their own exclusive news scoop with bringing these pictures: they have the first official picture of these figures, without those pictures previously having been seen anywhere else (or even leaked!).

And I think Lego are slowly running out of (consecutive series of) four-figured numbers for new sets and themes. It makes sense for Lego to move to standard five-figured set numbers, just like they went from three-figured set-numbers to four-figured set-numbers, years ago. I'm pretty sure that Lego would like to avoid reusing set-numbers as much as possible (although it was done in the past).

You haven't read it yet? Do so. It's a fantastic book, though a little short compared to the Trilogy (200 something pages I think). Great read!

These figures look great, a bit like I imagined them :)

deathwatch, I was thinking the same thing about Smaug. The Dragons from the 2007 Castle were a far and above improvement from the green dragons in the 90s. My feeling it is will be a dragon construct similar to what was done with the Vikings series.
