LEGO Star Wars Christmas tree ornaments

Hallmark in the USA is producing two LEGO Star Wars Christmas tree ornaments, a Stormtrooper and Darth Vader. They are priced at $15 and will be available in-store only.

It's hard to tell from the picture how large they are but I would guess 2-3" high.

    (Thanks morkman)

Um... Weird.

Doesn't look particularly festive...

I think it's better to buy genuine minifigs and use them. They will keep some value.

According to Hallmark's details page, measures are 1.75" x 3" x 2"

I bought the Darth Vader ornament last year - thumbs up!

^ I find that a lot of the Hallmark or other card company ornaments don't have much to do with Christmas, haha

No special at all. Looks to my like a keyring Minifigure on a 2x4 brick. Not very Christmasy, but when you want to decorate your tree, make it yourself from keyring Minifigures. Its cheaper and more fun, ...

hallmark has made ornaments for years. they are very colectable and become very valuable.

I also purchased the Darth Vader ornament last year. It's slightly larger than a minifigure. I would have preferred it if Hallmark made these ornaments light up since it's so hard to come across the very short-lived light-up minifigures from 2005. It seems as though they're already planning to produce Yoda next year:

It says the stormtrooper is 1.75" x 3" x 2" and Vader is 2.25" x 3.25" x 1.25". Maybe it was hard to tell from the picture, but if you read the description, it's pretty easy. :)

The best Christmas ornaments are the planets from the new planet series 1 and 2. They are a perfect size and even come with a lego piece to thread your string through so you can hang them. They even look like ornaments. I just wish they made Mustafar (RED!). This year I'm going to put minifigure gifts or polybag sets inside them to open up on Christmas morning rather than stuffing them into traditional stocking. I'll save the stockings for the larger gifts :)

Why is everyone saying this is "un-Christmasy" My own personal Christmas tree has NO santa stuff whatsoever(Well except one where he is climbing the Empire state building) But overall all my Christmas ornaments are Star Trek, Star wars, Transformers, Spongebob ,batman, Hotwheels, and other movie characthers etc. So this is a must have for me.

Thanks, Huw, for posting this!
It looks like they are only sold in the USA - not UK. Hallmark has different websites. I agree, it's not very Christmas-like! I don't remember a Storm Trooper at the birth of Jesus. Maybe he was standing guard outside.

I am not so sure about this personally, as already mentioned they don't seem at all festive, and I imagine they are quite heavy meaning that unless your tree is artificial and has some very strong branches, they will bend or break and the ornament will have a tendency to fall off. It is interesting to see that this is in fact the old Stormtrooper design and not the new one for some reason.

@multiplex - That idea about having polybags in the planets to be opened on Christmas day is excellent! I might have to steal it...

Yeah, I saw those in store last year, but didn't buy them since they didn't look that interesting or festive. Not that my family would ever let me hang Star Wars ornaments on our tree. If memory serves me right, they are slightly larger than real minifigures, kinda like those little torch lights.

I heard rumors of a Yoda and Jango Fett ornaments for next year.

As for the idea of putting polybags inside planet sets, why would you even need to do that? Wouldn't it be much easier to just leave the sets that they already come with inside of them? :D

Personally, I'm weirded out by the fact the stormtrooper is packing the bullhorn with a 1x1 round trans-red plate on it. That's a little retro, non? :)

As far as I can tell the 2012 Darth Vader ornament is identical to the 2011 Darth Vader ornament.

Silly people - obviously Stormtroopers and Darth Vader are as Christmassy as you get. Didn't you know? Following the Empire's rise to power, it became common practice to hang merchandise depicting figures from the Imperial army on one's Christmas/equivalent trees. After all, if you don't appease him in such a way, Santa Vader (that most jolly of gift-giving Sith cyborgs) will kill you in your sleep. Even after the Empire's fall and Vader's death, it took a very long time for this custom to fade.

...I'll shut up now.

(note: none of the above is true in any context)

Halmark ornaments are very light. I have a much larger DISPICABLE ME minion ornament (with snow-minion), and it is about the same weight as the Lego minifig standing next to it.

Without a scale, I am just going by feel, but ...

So if your tree contains Star Wars stuff or Lego stuff or just a mix of stuff, this would go just fine.

I saw the Darth Vader ornament last year and wasn't impressed by the "Star Wars" "LEGO" logo at the base. It was just a sticker and not printed on. They do sell fast, I never saw any survive it to post Holiday clearance. (I would have picked one up for half price)
