This isn't strictly true as free shipping is only when you spend £50 or more on items - then the shipping is free.

I spent more than £50 but they still charged me shipping. Rang customer services and they said there was a system problem and they will refund the delivery charge.

When you read "Free Shipping starts today" you automatically assume that whatever you spend, whether its £10 or £1000.00 that you won't have to pay for the shipping.
