    Exactly a year on from the announcement of the Medieval Market Village at a number of AFOL events, LEGO have announced what is sure to be another fan-pleaser - set #10210, the 'Imperial Flagship'. Seems like Pirates has got a little life left in it after all!

Holy Craps Batman! I'm so gonna have to get this. I always considered I'd need about 2 or 3 pirateships (plus a buncha soldiers) to get all I needed for a nice 18th century Royal Navy MOC, now we've got everything in one box. Sweetness.

I can't stop looking at it. I've counted every piece. I've tried to picture how big it must be. I need it.

New pieces I can make out: the plume on the admiral's hat, the 'captain's daughter' minifig and the midget chef's weapon.

It's a shame the only way they can introduce women into the sets is as 'the admiral's daughter' or 'the captain's daughter'. They could possibly have made the ship's chef a woman, then she wouldn't just be someone's daughter.

thomsedavi - women weren't tolerated on ships for a long long long time. Those sailors were dangerous brutes. Would you let your daughter/wife/sister/mother on a floating island of male testosterone? Today maybe, but certainly not before WWII.

On another note its a pity the navy men don't have blue uniforms - with royal marines in redcoats - that would have been better. Were there ever any lego navy uniforms in blue?

@BrianOG: I understand where you're coming from, but since the pirates get a woman who has more of a purpose than to just stand around and play canasta, it seems fair that the other side should get one as well. At least if fighting broke out on the ship, a woman chef would know how to use a knife...

My girlfriend agrees that women toys are more appealing when they can defend themselves effectively.

I think I'll just take the 'maid' from my MMV and make her the ship's chef.

you're dead right - if there was hand to hand combat it'd only be fair that the she-pirate had somebody suitable to wriggle across the salty deck with - mind you most of the chaps back then wore pony-tails too, so hairpulling could be performed on any of the navy men.

I'm not a Pirates fan as such, but when I heard that Pirates was being discontinued (atleast for the time being) I was slightly suprised it went without a RedCoats ship. But, hoorah! We have one! From the looks of it, it has 4 cannons, but more could be added? Anyway, I'm statrting ot think we'll get an exclusive set from a classic line revealed every 3rd October! Aye!

well, I was saving my money for brickbeard's bounty, but when I saw the imperial flagship I said so long Brickbeard! Absolutely nothing compared to this monstrous ship. It has details everywhere! And this truly looks like a realistic classic ship! A round of applause for LEGO! =) =) =)

I knew it. Did anyone see that there is a siloete(bad spelling yes) of it in almost every picture in he catalogs or boxes? Same deal as volcano base in turbo-car chase picture. I was bummed when nothing came out in summer but now I know I was right. YES. It looks awesome, I might get it, I hope it has playability.

i agree with many of u, october 3rd should be like a holiday for lego lovers!!! october 2rd, like the night before christmas.. we stay up wishing of the perfect set, and then in the morning we see it come to life!! thatd be awesome! but im sad, because i just got my hopes up for next year, and who knows if this tradition will come again?

Holly Smokes!!!..... what an amazing ship!! It's the first time Isee a ship with so many sails - 8 sails, and they realy look nice!
It looks so big and authentic and it almost give me the feeling and autmaspare when I first saw 6286 - Skull's Eye Schooner of 1993, and the first "Imperial Flagship" of 1992.. I'm realy impresed - it seems that LEGO is definatly trying to return the gold era of the pirates like in the early 90's.
I want it!!! I just hope it won't be too expensive since with the size and the beauty comes the price..

I like that the flags and pennants are blowing the right way - if the wind is pushing a sailing ship forward, it will do the same to any flags!
Also, an incredibly cool ship. If it's $179 in the US, how much would it be in Australia? $200+ ?

Considering that the Fire brigade and the Tantive IV sets which are $150 in the US cost $270 Australian, I'm guessing that this one will be around $300 in Australia. Having said that, I hope they take more recent exchange rates into account when they set the prices for the 2010 sets.

If this is as hard to build as Medieval Village. I am going to be P.O.-ed.

I bought two Medieval Villages. I am 29 yrs old. I thought it was a great set.. Then all the bags were not numbered, it took me over 1 hour to sort all the pieces out.. then another 1 building and I am still not done building it.. I really looked forward to building it and putting it on display next to my other sets.. It never made it.. it just sits there half built.. I am old and it usually takes me 30 minutes to build any set. This one took forever and I lost all motivation to complete it.

If I am going to pay $179.99 for this set... The bags better be numbered with smaller instructions to complete each smaller set with appropriate numbers on the bags..

It's a good thing you weren't into Lego back maybe 8-10 years ago. Every model came unnumbered. Plus, there's nothing like the good old days of sorting through a million bricks to find one particular piece. Todays smaller models are so dumbed down, it's kind of lame (see, 7747 Wind Turbine Transport, the cab of the truck is divided into two models).

In pictures on Eurobricks, the ship appears to be divided into three major sections. On a side note, I really hope I have room to display this ship...

Yes, Medieval Market Village actually made me nostalgic for when all sets used to come like that. Sorting through one large pile trying to find the right piece. Spending ten minutes looking for a small curved black piece, giving up in despair, systematically sorting through the entire pile three times and then realising that a small curved black piece can look exactly like a small square black piece from a particular angle.

Well... not necessarily fondly nostalgic, but nostalgic just the same.

But MMV was just an anomaly, I think. I'm 99% sure this Imperial Flagship will come in neatly marked bags, although it wouldn't really bother me if it didn't. Something like this is worth persevering for.

I think the age range of the set dictates whether the bags are numbered. That's what I've noticed, anyway. Anything rated 14+ doesn't seem to come with the numbered bags. I, too, prefer it without the numbering because I like digging for the pieces as well, just like in the old days. Having the numbered bags simplifies it a little too much. For those who had a hard time with the Medieval Market Village (or other unnumbered sets), avoid the UCS Falcon. 5,000+ pieces, and nary a single numbered bag. Plus, it's all shades of gray, so it can be really tough sorting through them.

As for the set, what else is there to say? It looks awesome. I thought Brickbeard's Bounty was cool but way over-priced; this one seems to be a lot more reasonably priced. It's more expensive overall, but the per-piece price makes it worth it.

I love the cannpns in it. 8 if I am correct, though it only comes with 4.
I want to buy this and fill it with cannons and Imperial Guards and weapons, but I am afraid that it'll probably be too expensive.
By the way, I wouldn't excpect it to stay at £139.99, as if you remember last year's October Exclusive, Medieval Market Village, was said to be £84.99 but when it was released was sold for about £68.49. If that is the case with this, perhaps it will be sold for £109.99 when it is released on S@H.

I love the attention to detail all over this monsterious ship!
The little kitchen is so cute, and I love the cannons below deck.

My first reaction was 'at last' finally there is a fair play on the open waters between the pirates and the imperial guards/soldiers.

However, when you look for a while I'm starting to miss a lifeboat (incase the pirates will burn down this ship in a gun fight).
And when you compare these ship with the earlie pirates ships as the Black Seas Barracuda (6285) or the Skull's Eye Schooner (6286) I think it is a little bit disapointed that Lego hasn't put the real ropes in this new set. It makes it so much more fun to build/ look at/ and realistic.

Further it should be nice to add a little pirate shallop, so it's more playible.

But after these bud's..I am possibly one of the first that 'll buy this set. Just because I'm a big collector of the Pirates theme.

So Lego, keep on the good work!

I'd be surprised if the price goes down on this one. Lego's sets seem to be around $10/100 pieces, and lately they've been an additional $5-$10 above that average (depending on the set's price point), so the $180 for this set seems about on par with that. Also, the boat sets, along with the Star Wars sets, seem to average a higher per-piece price than other sets with comparable piece-counts, so I wouldn't count on it coming down. Not that I'd mind if the price did come down, mind you, because I'm sure as heck considering this one, even at 180 USD. :)

This is a definite MUST HAVE. Glad to see they are doing a "proper" ship for the line.

And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I hope this doesn't have numbered bags and sub assemblies on a platter. As convenient as those are, there's something very nostalgic about dumping every single bag on the floor in a giant pile and then working through it. The frustration when you can't find that one brick you need just makes the final product that much more satisfying. I did my first Technic set in some time just yesterday (8297 Off Roader) and none of the bags are numbered and yes it was quite a chore, but it made it that much more of a rewarding experience.

And isn't that what LEGO is all about?

I can't imagine how boring my childhood would have been if all my LEGO sets were duploized and numbered.

In most cases I would be against it but Lost Cosmonaut has a good point, I'm with him on this one. Hey, does anyone remember building batcave with no numbered bags, WOAH. It hold second logest model taken to build in my book although I have had ones with more pieces before. Oh and just a question while we are on the subject of bags. Does the Death Star have any kind of sorting in it like numbred bags or seperated boxes or somthing? I have only heard of numbred boxes but never seen them so don't think that I can understand the simplest 1 word explination on boxes.

This is a great set! I don't think I'll get it soon (it is exclusive, and I don't hope to get it soon as I did with 10193).
It is also interesting to find medium blue in the set. It look like a re-use of 10193 (though that, it is a nice re-use).

Althoug it is a Pirate ship, have pirates minifigs and items, I don't think it fits so well in the theme.
Is it's schale the same as the other ships?
Anyways, in my opinion, it stands for what the modular houses are for city: Have likeness with the theme, but are out of the parameters, though they fits (and completes) the original subject of the theme.

I like it, but I don't think I will be able to get it. I really like the fact that it's bigger than Brikcbeard's Bounty. I also wonder why Lego does not put a full ship of cannons on this and Brickbeards Bounty... Maybe because Brickbeard only attacks on the left?

I just got the brickbeard's bounty on sale at toys'r'us and I love it, this means I have the complete pirate collection until this comes out and I think that my collection will be incomplete for about a week. I hope the cannons are the same type so we can put them on the ships to make them complete.

It will be available through LEGOs 'Direct' retail outlets - i.e the Brand Stores (in Germany, UK & US), & the "LEGO Shop" on-line store. So, yes, it will be available in France (and Norway, and Hungary, and ...)
