    The Brickish Association's Great Western LEGO Show at the weekend was a tremendous success! I had a great -- but tiring -- time, having been there and on my feet since set up on Friday afternoon through to tear down on Sunday until 7pm. It was great to meet some of you and put faces to names and good to be asked "are you Huw from Brickset?" several times.

    If you were there, let me know what you thought of it all, what you liked and what you didn't. And if you weren't, you can see pictures of what you missed on the BA's events page and on the local newspaper's site.

I loved the WHOLE event! All those models really amazed me! I wonder if HQuiff was there! There wasn't a single thing that was wrong! Congrats! I still won't reveal what I look like though... I did contribute to the mosaic! The finished mosaic looks fantastic! I especially liked the Tabletown army! All those green men... I loved the Daleks, especially the big black one!

It was great to meet you in the show, great models, your train layout was amazing, and Peter's Neoclassic space ships were very impresive.

Yes it was great to finally put a face to Huw. I also noticed the brickset tiles discretely placed on several of the displays.

I was there on the Sunday, fantastic displays, the whole family had a great time. Can't believe the woman who had a collection of 2,500 different minifigs on display!! Didn't see you Huw, was checking out all the name tags but must have missed you, which train display was yours?

Anyway, big thanks to everyone involved!!

Bruce Wayne's mansion with the batcave built underneith was the best set! The kids enjoyed it but I thought it was very overpriced considering there were really only 2 rooms and not enough merchandise available to buy.

ensign_dave - the £8 entry fee was essentially made up of the normal admission price for the Steam museum with a few quid chucked on top for the Lego exhibition, you may have noticed you had to walk through the entire museum to get to the exhibition! Sure, it would have been nice to just pay for the Lego exhibition but I suspect Brickish had no say in this.

Posting my first comment - don't often have much time these days but always visiting the site.

Went on the Saturday myself. The show was very good, the queue outside was long but moved fairly quickly so we didn't spend too much time in the drizzle.
Very busy inside, especially in the first section where I spoke to Huw - I think I was one of the first. (Huw I was the chap with a baby carrier!!! - as if of course that you would remember).

I thought it was a tad expensive, but it was cheaper than Legoland and the models were of good quality, so it was worth the entry fee. Got loads of photos and a couple of video shots of certain models.

Don't be fooled by the pictures on the BA website - it was much busier when I went and trying to get to one of the traders to buy something was quite a scramble.

Personally, there should be an AFOL's only hour or something, so we don't have to push all those damn kids ;-) out of the way to get a proper look at the models.
Hope you guys have some great ideas for next year - you'll have to go some way to better this years!!!!

I went on the Saturday too, we got there just as it started so we avoided some of the crowds. It took us nearly 4 hours to get there, we went on a train to Kings Cross, the Circle line to Paddington, and from there to swindon, but it was worth it! I got loads of the free building instructions! Might ask if I can go again next year, it was a great day out!

Yep, an excellent show again - some great models and both the children and the wife had a good time.

So Huw, you were the chap on the first train display next to the Lego Universe stand were you?

is it cheaper to buy lego at these shows, as in some pics theres literally hundreds of brown boxes stamped lego on, obviously full of sets??

No, no cheaper I'm afraid! Lego do have a stand but they don't (unfortunately) discount for the show.
The brown boxes may well have been theirs or the boxes that bags of individual plates came in for the mosaic that was made there (you have a 32 x 32 baseplate and are given a plan for that plate, these are all then put together and a picture is made - I think it was about 20 x 20 baseplates big roughly. I didn't see it finished unfortunately so unless someone else - Huw - has a photo of it by chance.........?)
There was another small stand selling old sets and another shop from Bricklink selling too which is the first time I have seen this there - but no real bargains sadly.
