Swiss toy shop reveals 2013 Ninjago and City sets

  • Swiss toy shop reveals 2013 Ninjago and City sets

Posted by Huw, 10 Oct 2012 13:38. Filed under New sets.

Swiss shop Thali has posted pictures of next year's City and Ninjago sets.

Thanks to TAFOL for the news, and sorry this post is rather brief, I'm just on my way out to a  concert!

Update: I've added the images to the database and also added names of the Lone Ranger sets, that have been provided by a source that wants to remain anonymous. See everything we know about 2013 on the new 2013 year browsing page.

Update:  Swiss shop Thali has removed the images :-)

not watermarked so are these going into the database @Huw?

Not one, but TWO Mechs! Is Mark Stafford in overdrive? Hope so!

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 10 Oct 2012 13:56

The sets appear to be marked up, so here's my guesses for the city sets after looking at the images:

Fire Bike $6/ 5UK

Fire Car $10 /8UK

Fire Truck $20 / 17UK

Truck/ Burning building $35 / 25UK

Fire Station $90 / 70UK

Fire boat $35 / 30UK

Police Quad $6 / 5UK

Police Chase $35 / 28UK

Museum Robbery $70 / 50UK

Fire Helicoptor $40 / 32UK

"The Final Battle". Yes, it's official, Ninjago ends next year. At least we'll get a golden ninja. :P The enemies seem to be nondescript Garmadon goons. As for City... Meh, police and firefighters get the spotlight. :P

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 13:58

1: That Fire Robot. @_@ And I was right about that being the Stone Warrior Scout...

2: The Samurai Bike looks pretty good, although too occupied by the tread. =P

3: Radical Power Drill. =P Though not my style.

4: Dragon looks pretty good; I noticed the green highlights.

5: Garmatron?? Is that... Lord Garmadon's new form behind the tank?

6: The light temple looks pretty good; and it WAS a golden mech... And THAT seems to be Garmadon's final form, in this set...

Overall, I'm pleased; not exactly a best ending, but it still holds up well with other Ninjago lines. I like the "Symbol" for this year (it looks the gold ninja even has gold skin? =P). Paying attention to more detail, I like the background on the boxes the best for this year, even better than last year's.

Oh joy. Yet another fire station. :| (sarcasm)
EDIT:
On another note, I've implemented austerity in my table town (no new fire stations!)

And now, the website is crashing...

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 10 Oct 2012 14:20

Yep, the "Brickset Effect" has struck.

Posted by Lobotomy642 in France, 10 Oct 2012 14:22

If I saw correctly, it looks like we're getting a new "special" brick with the fie helicopter - wondering if it's a battery-operated small motor or a mechanical thing... And same here, site looks to be overloaded due to the Brickset effect! Anyone having the direct links to pictures (they seems to work) ?
Edit: We can actually use Si_Dorking_Surrey's links and play with the numbers, neat!

There is a video in the forum about this subject, about the 9th or so comment down. It also shows some Bricks and More as well (The suitcases).

There are pics of all the Ninjago 2013 Minifigures on each set page. If the website hadn't crashed, I would've shared them all.

EDIT: Damn it, now everything is gone. AND I can't connect with the site. There goes the cool image of "Garmatron".

EDIT 2: Site's back up

EDIT 3: Down again. I got images of the Garmatron set and Golden Dragon.

And who's this 'Golden Ninja'?
The new Ninjago sets look very interesting and different.
And guess what we've got? A new fire station....:0 there isn't any of those around...

I predicted that police chase would feature cars from lego city undercover and seems some others from the game are being produced for next year aswell (fire truck from the fire station I think) very pleased and some certain purchases in there. I like that the police theme is branching out into SWAT based sets but TLG need to leave police well alone after that given that will be three yrs on the bounce police has featured same for the fire theme for that matter.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 15:34

@xj550
Gold and yellow are two different colors (at least in LEGO terms).

Normal minifigures have yellow skin; it looks like the Golden Ninja (Lloyd?) has golden skin.

LEGO seems to like including that motorcycle in smaller sets...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/75587076@N02/8074858983/in/photostream/
Handcuffs versus crowbar... I wonder who going to win: 1. According to reality; 2. According to LEGO. =P

http://www.flickr.com/photos/75587076@N02/8074852714/in/photostream/
Oooh, exclusive figure...?

Both the fire and police helicopters have nice design, although I'm leaning toward the fire copter as the better of the two. =P
And is that a nuclear waste facility in the fire set? Or something else?

The museum looks a bit too small... The burglars look quite detailed, though. LEGO has been giving their 110% recently (mostly with figures and with a few set designs).

I like the new SWAT look for the police, and the robbers and firemen look much more realistic than normal. Also, it's good that, for once the firemen have fires to deal with, we've had too many sets of fire trucks and boats, with no fire.

Posted by ninjagoyo in United States, 10 Oct 2012 16:05

Little red mech is BOSS! Big gold one more meh compared to the Samurai Mech especially. The tread machines are wicked... are those dark bley 1/8th curved slopes on the cockpit new?
Hero Factory... new sword mold and DAT SHIELD!!!! Lots of gold pieces all around, sweet!

Posted by CamberbrickGreen in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2012 16:06

What concert did Huw see? Definitely more interesting than more fire and police sets - rolled out for yet another year! Though granted, there are a couple of good vehicle designs.

Posted by lostnewf26 in Canada, 10 Oct 2012 16:10

The new Fire Truck 60002 and the new Fire Station 60004 look great but what happened to the rest of the sets. The new police sets took a dive. And the new police mini-figures make them look like security guards. The museum looks good, and the burning abandoned building and fuel tanks make me attempt to justify buying them but the other items in the set, make me think it's a waste of money.

Posted by TekkamanRaiden in Canada, 10 Oct 2012 16:16

Looks like a couple more mech suits i'll have to pick up.

Posted by Clan Stonebraker in United States, 10 Oct 2012 16:46

Would have liked to seen a larger Museum for the heist, but the Ninjago Final Battle Mech is definitely a must have.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2012 17:20

Although its the fourth remake, I think the new fire station looks quite good and better than the last version any way. The other fire sets all look good except the helicopter IMO. The museum one looks pretty good though.

Ninago looks improoved as I want the mini mech and temple but other than that, not much else.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 10 Oct 2012 17:21

The City sets are more yawns of fire and police.

However at least the firemen are fighting fires! That's amazing!

Posted by Rolyat24 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 17:36

Just some of my personal Ninjago thoughts:

70500: Eh... It looks alright. I really love the fire sword and Stone Minifigure. Mech needs some work.

70501: Again, liking the minifigures. The bike somehow looks incomplete, and I really don't like the green accents.

70502: Cole looks to be the best out of the new ninjas. His vehicle is also the best, probably because it contains more than ten pieces.

70503: Well, I am glad they did another dragon. I am not glad that they accented it with dark green. Also I would have loved the original wing pieces... Same with Lloyd. Too much dark green! (Weird eyes too). Happy they used the Earth Dragon head.

70404: Umm... I'm really not quite sure what this is supposed to be. I suppose it looks cool. I really love the figures in this one. Zane's vehicle is unacceptably small and simple. Bad move, LEGO

70405: Hurray! Another flat temple. We were really lacking in those this year. Great mech, much better than Kai's or Zane's. Doesn't look like Sensei Wu has changed much. Or Garmadon, minus the hat. Weird thing that the gold ninja be the only protagonist to appear twice though. Ooh! and gold mini-dragons!

Overall: Love the minifigures. The models, not so much. Really miss the spinners, and Nya. I would really like to see how the story fits in with the sets. Looking forward to next year!

Posted by Master Ian in United States, 10 Oct 2012 17:36

I am super pumped about the new SWAT police minifigs, even thought they still don't have any weapons (not even a nightstick). The criminal vehicles look a bit weird to me and the sports car is too bulky, but they are still nice. Fire is more bleh, though I do like the gold fire hat. The fire helicopter looks a bit dumb on the front, but I will pardon Lego cause I know exactly what design they were going for. The oil tank thing looks nice to. I still can't wait to see pictures of the new tank truck and flatbed truck, so hopefully those will be out soon as well!

@CamberbrickGreen, Level 42 at Portsmouth. You are right, they were more exciting than a load more fire sets...

Posted by Venunder in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2012 18:26

It is good to see the printed Dragon Screens reused in a new Ninjago building.
I would have liked to a lot more of the new brick profile 2x1's used in the Museum robbery set.
Unfortunately a sticker is used for the City Museum sign.

Posted by cool_kid555 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 18:29

Ninjago is ending after all? BOO!

Opinions:

Kais Feuerroboter:

Looks like the Samurai Mech we just got, but it also looks like it comes from a Brickmaster set. I love that Kai though, so I will get this one.

Samurai-Bike:
Jay is rockin' that jetpack and the bike isn't bad- I must buy.

Coles Powerbohrer:

Meh. Looked better in the smaller picture. Maybe I will just get the cole off Ebay or in a booster pack, but this set is kind of ugly.

Goldener Drache:

The Golden Ninja is Lloyd. That is obvious to me. Having yet another dragon would be fun though, I like this one.

Garmatron:

Very interesting- who is that guy? Is it Garmadon?

Tempel des Lichts:

2 mechs at once? Slightly overdoing it. This a a combo of the Fire Temple and the Samurai Mech. But I don't have either one- so it is all okay.

Posted by M4444M44 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 18:35

I understand its "more fire and police," but City is heavily marketed to 6-12 year old boys, and that's what they want - more fire and police!

On the other hand, I greatly appreciate that they are fleshing out fire and police a little more. It's not just fire and police this year - it's a museum to rob, tire spikes to lay, a cat to rescue, a building to firefight, etc. I appreciate this a lot. I also think this is the best fire station LEGO has possibly ever done.

As with all years, the summer City line likely promises more generic sets.

Posted by BlackRabbit in Canada, 10 Oct 2012 18:49

The glass canopy for the police helicopter looks sweet. It will be great for mechs but its a shame it doesn't come in smokey glass.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 10 Oct 2012 18:51

Looks like those Hobbit sets aren't priced bad either.

Riddles for the Ring is $9.99 for 105 pieces

The Goblin King Battle is $99.99 for 841 pieces

Escape From Mirkwood Spiders is $29.99 for 298 pieces

Attack Of The Wargs is $49.99 for 400 pieces (but includes 7 minifigs)

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 10 Oct 2012 18:58

I think the problem M4444M444 is that the City line always had Fire or Police, but we used to get Fire and Construction sets one year, and Police and Camping sets the next. So we used to get Police or Fire and some different sets to even it out.

Now it's just all Fire and Police.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 10 Oct 2012 19:05

Though the last normal Fire theme was in 2010, the Forest Fire was released for 2012, but may be going away. Both 4430 and 4205 (for Forest Police) are sold out on Lego.com. I wouldn't be suprised if they are gone by early 2013.

Posted by hi7478 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 19:13

gold ninja!!!!!

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 10 Oct 2012 19:33

The Golden Dragon looks better than I thought it would. Plus, a Gold Ninja! I'm so onboard it's not even funny. They look great.

The new fire sets look very similar to every other fire set we've had ... although I like the little fire car (with the kitten stuck in the tree. Yay for a female minifig!). I like that the big fire engine comes with two firemen. The abandoned building is an interesting touch. The fire station just reminds me of older, better fire stations of the past. Fire boat isn't bad.

As for the police sets, pretty forgetable. But I don't mind the museum, though.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 10 Oct 2012 19:40

Great job with most of the City sets IMO. Having said that, I really don't need to further expand my Police/Fire collection so will be giving most of these a miss.
I understand those of you who want more variety in the City theme - I'm in the same boat. I'd love to see more buildings, such as a Library, some cafes etc. And yes, we did get a Museum for next year, but let's face it, that Museum is pathetic. But as far as the rest of the City sets go, they're certainly an improvement on the older versions, especially the fire station.

Ninjago looks interesting and an improvement on this year - let's hope these aren't the final sets to be released for this theme.

Bring on 2013!

Posted by chrismajor2124 in United States, 10 Oct 2012 20:23

The Final Battle? Bring it Lego. Let's end Ninjago with a BANG!

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 10 Oct 2012 20:27

City is the usual "fun twist" on the subtheme we're already sick of. I wasn't expecting more than what the Museum turned out to be. They probably couldn't have made it much bigger even if they cut back on vehicles, so I'm not even going to suggest that. I only ever bought the modular "easy start" sets, so it'll look fine next to the pizza shop and a white house.

NinjaGo is the theme I was banking on being totally awesome since neither City nor the Hobbit sets were worth much attention. I'm happy with some of them, although nothing blows me away. I was hoping to see the NRG outfits as opposed to the laid-back robe looking torso. Of course I'm more than happy to by a golden dragon, but I'm not so sure why Lego decided to go with an ExoForce-NinjaGo love child for the rumoured last batch of sets.

Like with any "new" pictures, I always save them to my computer so I don't need to worry about clicking in and out of foreign websites. They always get removed after being leaked.

I'm not happy at all with 2013. The Hobbit sets were nothing short of a trainwreck and the starting 2012 superhero sets don't provide much hope in overall quality for the 2013 batch (although the Asylum set looked great). City is the usual sleeper while NinjaGo is so far out there that even as someone who buys the stuff, I'm not entirely interested. There's still many more images to be "leaked", so I'm still hoping for some awesome comebacks from Lego.

Woooow! have you see th enew dog also? inside the new firestation, it's a new print :D!!! love the new city set! can't wait!!!!

I know not all the Bricks and More and Creator sets have images yet.

Posted by Aanchir in United States, 10 Oct 2012 21:00

Finally broke down and got a Brickset account. I usually read occasional news comments from the sidelines, but I figured I might as well finally join since to dispel some misinformation about the Ninjago sets.

About a week ago, we got actual set descriptions of the Ninjago sets on a Japanese shop site. I translated the best I could using Google Translate and educated guesses where the translation didn't make sense, and posted them on Eurobricks. However, since EB is down right now, I'll link you to a blog post on The Brick Fan which quoted my translations: http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-ninjago-2013-set-descriptions/

Useful notes:

*There are four ranks of Stone Warriors: scouts (short legs, quivers, straw hats), swordsmen (regular-length legs, armor, straw hats), warriors (black samurai helmets, armor, two arms), and generals (red samurai helmets, four arms).

*Garmatron is the name of the tank-like vehicle in 70504. The figure in it is a Stone Army general, NOT Garmadon. Garmadon does come in the set 70505 Temple of Light. If you look closer, he is mostly identical to his previous depictions but with a new helmet matching those worn by the Stone Army generals and warriors.

*Zane's vehicle is a speeder, not a mech. I like its unique look that it achieves with very few pieces. Kai's Fire Robot is also lovely much like the River Dragon and Mine Mech before it. Honestly, big vehicles and mechs are a bit overrated.

*The green accents on the Samurai Bike and Garmatron are in fact the eyes. These vehicles have a demonic samurai face as their key motif, just as the 2012 sets had snakes and the 2011 sets had skulls. Overall I like the concept, and the vehicles are very unique, but the samurai head motif isn't as refined as the skull and snake motifs of the past couple years and it's hard to recognize at a glance.

*Lloyd is in fact the golden ninja, so most of you guessed correctly.

*Ninjago is in fact ending after this wave as far as I'm aware. There will be no new seasons of the show after the current one. However, in November a DVD will be released in the US of the first seven episodes from this season, and in the first half of next year there will be DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the complete season and the complete series.

Overall, I am very happy with the Ninjago sets (though Cole's Power Drill is underwhelming-- a little too boxy). Hero Factory sets are hit-and-miss-- I like all of the heroes but Bulk and most of the villains. My favorite hero set is Furno XL and my favorite villain set is Bruizer, who has some lovely asymmetry. City sets are brilliant and really surpass past fire and police waves in a lot of ways, but I don't plan to collect them. Looking forward to pics of the Friends and Chima themes.

I actually dont mind the firetruck, or the cop/robber chase one. Not bad

Posted by LEGOIndianaMogens in Denmark, 11 Oct 2012 06:27

I have read somewhere that TLG makes a new police station about every 2nd-3rd year, that propably counts for fire stations too.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 11 Oct 2012 08:28

Ugh, the new firefighter torso printing looks terrible. The orange one in particular which doesn't make much sense at all printed on a black torso. The dark red helmets don't really look as good with black legs/torso either. Definitely the worst-looking firefighter minifigures LEGO has made, even worse than the ones from the mid-90s. I do like the new head prints though, so I suppose one could always swap out the torsos for old ones.

Posted by eastlands01 in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 11:55

I like the Museum Break-In set, but why do Lego persist in bringing out yet more Police and Fire sets? whats wrong with the ones that we have at the moment? Why can't they bring out some shops/cafe's etc. I wouldn't mind just having the newspaper office from the new Spiderman set and forget about the rest.

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 17:24

Thanks for putting them in the database, Huw.
I love that the 2 big Ninjago sets and the big spiderman one have 200 'wants' already and the train cab fire helicopter thing has a big fat zero. Quite right too!

Posted by Aanchir in United States, 11 Oct 2012 18:23

I actually like the fire helicopter. It's unique among LEGO helicopters. Then again, I don't have any problems with most LEGO helicopters. TLG has gotten quite good at them, and the specialized helicopter nose elements are still way more versatile than the 2006 plane nose and tail elements. However, I wouldn't buy it because I haven't collected LEGO City sets in years. I just follow them because City is for me the quintessential LEGO theme, since it defines how the world around us translates into bricks.

Posted by Town in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:37

The Fire Helicopter is ok, but we've had fire helicopters before.

Where is the rest of the Museum? I guess we just get the door.

Kids might want these sets, but there's not much here for AFOLs. Actually, probably just the Fire Motorcycle for me. Will save some money then.

I don't understand something about Lego though- the Collectible Minifigure line is the most popular toy line each time it's released, topping sales charts. Why are those really cool and unique City-based figures not made into sets? It was great to see that with the Monster Fighters, but I heard rumors that it's a one-and-done line.

Here are some ideas for some City sets. Feel free to use them Lego;). How about a Hazmat set, Sailors + Ship, Supermarket (Butcher), Sports club, Restaurant / Cafe, Artist's Gallery, Contemporary Royal Palace, Circus, or Small Theater? You can also just drive around your city for ideas if you don't like those...

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 11 Oct 2012 22:54

Adding to Town's Idea: A Zoo, a school with school bus, another house for people (like 8403, but bigger and not Target-Exclusive) , and a new construction line.

Posted by Master Ian in United States, 12 Oct 2012 00:14

While all of Town's ideas would make interesting sets, we have to keep in mind that Lego really intends for these sets to draw attention from kids rather than AFOLs. I know that when I was a kid, I would rather play with a cop chasing a robber than a bunch of people shopping at a supermarket or going to the zoo. While these sets would add to the volume and detail of our cities, kids would likely be uninterested in them do to the lack of action and playability in them.

Surprisingly the 2013 City sets look very nice indeed! Good details and playability, with many of the sets encourage upon expansion i.e. using own bricks to create a bigger play sets. Very well done and that's a showcase of Lego's good creativity and design!

I like Ninjago theme in general, but the 2013 Ninjago really doesn't look appealing to me.. Especially let down is the Golden Dragon, I would expect an upgraded design rather than just a dragon putting on a golden outfit.. Put it this way, if my six-year-old kid could get the golden bricks now, he will probably modify the Ice Dragon 2260 to become the Golden Dragon and it will not look any different than the new set.. On with the others, Ninjago Mechs look similar to the 2012's Samurai Mech, the Golden Temple looks again similar to the Fire Temple, and the Driller could actually fit well in the City Miner series. I guess you get the point.. The only coolness is the Golden Ninja and probably the Stone Warrier minifig.

Doesn't really like the brain attack idea of Hero Factory.. Showing off the brain without the skull. Er just look a bit weird to me, well.. But Furno XL with the cape looks cool.

TMNT minifigs are excellent! The first set does look something that kids would like. I believe it will link well with the image and storyline of the upcoming cartoon series.

Overall not bad still, with a shift of creative juice from Ninjago to the rest (which is unfortunate giving Ninjago's EOL in 2013). I will probably pick-up a few of the good City sets in 2013. :)

2013 lego is a not so good year for sets...

City.... really? police and fire? and its are-hash of sets from a few years ago. I understand Lego is going after 6-12 but go to any kid that age and ask what Lego's they like, and its Ninjago.

for Ninjago.

the sets always suck anyways. and all the kids want are the figures anyways.

stop luke... its a trap!

The links are now off the site, at least for cCity.

My opinions on the sets, even though no one other than me cares. :P

Kai's Fire Mech: Reminds me of the Power Miners Mine Mech. Kai's Mech doesn't look all that poseable, but it's still a nice looking set.

Warrior Bike: I wish that tread was't so obvious. It looks like the... um... that Star Wars Droid Tank thing that had a tread running all along the front, top, back, and underside of the tank. I'll probably buy the set, if not just to get Jay.

Cole's Earth Drill: Thunder Driller, anyone? I think it's cool, but I'm not impressed enough to buy it.

Golden Dragon: It's a cross between the Ice Dragon Attack, the Earth Dragon Defense, and a bunch of gold bricks. I have enough dragons, LEGO. No thank you.

Garmatron: WHO'S DRIVIN' THAT THING!? Not Garmadon, unless he got a new paint job. I won't buy this set, as there is nothing great about it.

Temple of Light: I like it. Fairly large, comes with five minifigs, and has a nice big mech. I might get it, if I can fit another shelf on my wall. :P

Overall, LEGO has produced some nice sets for the end of Ninjago. If nothing else, I enjoy looking at these sets. I still think it's foolish of LEGO to end a theme that is very popular, has a hit TV show (for kids, anyway), and has routinely made sets that are popular with kids. But whatever, it's LEGO's choice to make.
