Curious as to the train wheels under the big vehicle... is that for running down the subway system? I think I remember them living under the city & using the subway so that would make sense.

question for the new pieces / colors spotters... is that olive green they are using for the roof of the yellow truck, wheels etc, or just a shade of tan? And in case it is, is it new in that color?

Only the turtles look descent everything else in the set is so undesirable, if this is what's expected from the rest of this line then they didn't win me over. I wasn't thinking of buying any and now I definitely won't. Fans and kids will probably loves these.

Yes the Shellraiser is a Subway car modified into the turtle new mode of transportation... Much like the Party Wagon in the 80's toon. I am totally looking forward to this line. I was the perfect age for the Turtles when they became popular, still have all my old toys and been collecting the new ones as well... This is a no brainer for me, buy buy buy!!!

Have not caught any episodes of the new cartoon. I find the animation style a huge turn off. The turtles themselves look good, but when did Crash Bandicoot start on steroids and become a TMNT character.

TMNT... doesn't really appeal to me, maybe cool for younger kids. But the figures look cool. I don't really like the vehicles.

As a kid, I was a fan of the original animated series in the late 80s. I had quite a few of the toys, etc. These don't appeal to me at all. I might have been interested in picking up the four turtles if they looked anything like they did in the original series, but they don't. Donatello was my favorite; when did he lose a tooth?

This set just looks plain ugly. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that Lego did a great job re-creating the Turtle-whatever-mobile, but it's design is still plain ugly. That little white van reminds me of the Town sets Lego would release 10plus years ago when everything was built out of basic components.

I'll leave the K.O. punch when there's finally word on the price. If I had to buy it, I wouldn't want to see it listed at anywhere above $64.99 Canadian retail (about $50 MSRP in the USA). As long as it's not some $99.99 CAN set then it might actually sell to some children who like the show.

Yeah, that set is ugly. And expensive too!! Gizmodo is reporting a $59.99USD price point, which would put it at $75-80 CDN. Ouch!!

Which is too bad, because I freaking LOVE those minifigs! The turtles and Shredder especially, but they all look pretty awesome; they're not exactly like the 80's versions but they're close enough (with the exception of Krang).

But I can't justify $80 to get the two exclusive turtles in this set, I just can't. That's way too expensive for such an ugly set. =(

I'm not a TMNT fan, but this looks like a fun set for those who are. For all the complaints that the shellraiser is "ugly," it seems to match the general TMNT design aesthetic as far as I can tell.

Even if you don't like TMNT and have no intention of buying these sets, it's still nice to see Lego branching out and trying different things. Every new license attracts a new fan base to our hobby, and that's an unqualified plus.

I never really liked TMNT, but I think the Lego ninjas look wicked, and it's a nice detailed set, only problem is, they've a ridiculous mould for the dog thing, and it makes you think when is anyone ever going to need it? But it is a cool exclusive Minifigure.

Dinna care for TMNT, it was a different generation for me, saw plenty of the show and the old movies though. I'd rather they kept Ninjago, though I didn't like the set's initially, my kids and I love watching the series (I love the serial aspect of it). I grew to love the sets through my kids and series.

Sadly, I feel the TMNT prematurely advanced the end of Ninjago, I would have liked to see it go to 2014.

Grr, to April and her Trollish Terrapins! Though the turtle figs do look decent, I plan to skirt the kiddos around them...

This set is GROSS!!

The van looks really weirdly put together and clunky. The gun on the roof is just awful >< The little van looks like the delivery van from Pizza To Go!

Seriously though. Lego have so many well designed themes, like Monster Fighters (minus the mummy chariot xD), but surely the same designers didn't come up with this!

I was not a fan of TMNT when younger but the minifig turtles do look okay. My only concession!

How much of the original show/movies has been changed for the new TV Show? As many others have said, I was a HUGE TMNT fan when I was a kid...but these aren't the turtles I grew up with from what I can tell. We'll see what the other sets they come out with look like. Minifigs look ok...

If you look at how the wheels are attached it would appear that they can move up and down perhaps this is so it can ride the rails.

@Noahs-Dad, sorry my friend, but my 9 year old son has been watching this show and keeping up with the information online and he told me that Bebop and Rocksteady won't be on the show due to them going to introduce "new, funnier" characters. I am as disappointed as you must be right now.

As for the theme in itself, eh. I only care for the turtles and Shredder. Master Splinter looks atrocious and Krang doesn't look right at all. I may pass on this theme.

I remember bein a hard-core turtles cartoon fan in the 80's-90's; had almost all the figures and vehicles; hours spent watching and playing.

I know there's a new series and all, but this does nothing to feed my now-fundable relivable childhood dreams. The biggest draw for me with this set seems to be the sticker set (grafitti, pizza shop) for future train layouts and maybe the Foot Soldiers for some funky ninjas.

Sorry LEGO, not a hit for me this time 'round!

Yes, the van is aesthetically questionable, but remember, the original '80s toy van was all clashing colors too...

I am sure their Dojo-Lair will be much cooler, and a great way to get most of the main heroes and villains...

Plus, I'm sure that there'll be a few different combos of sets you can get, if you want all of the main figs in total!

@Paul Boratko actually, Mikey has two sets of nunchucks in the new series; one of which has a small blade on it. As for Don's staff...well...that is pretty bad. Honestly though, I like this set. It's actually a nice change of pace from the standard licensed themes, meaning that a cartoonish look such as this isn't that bad imo. I'm not really understanding all of the dislike you guys are "shelling" out to this theme. Shredder has one "shell" of a helmet and printing, but Splinter...now his atrocity left me "shell-shocked!" Sorry...I couldn't resist.

Man I had to leave some positive comments here just in case some poor LEGO marketer is reading the comments.

I wasn't the biggest Turtles fan in the 80s, but I did watch the show all the time and had a few of the toys and played the hell out of that arcade game, and I think these sets are great.

I thought the figs would be awful, but they look like LEGO versions of the Turtles, that is to say, exactly what they should look like. I just watched the first episode of the new show OnDemand, and it's WAY better than the original. That show would be really annoying to watch as an adult. The new one seems designed so that it doesn't annoy parents and maybe even engages them a little.

I wish the Krang characters were more like the original Krang, just less stupid. But still. It's better than what that horrible director was thinking about doing.

Being an 80s kid I am disappointed. Like stated above, Krang should not look like this. I was a turtles fan and I never even recognized the character until reading the threads.

Kids wont flip out if the figures are not exactly like the new shows, they like it if mom and dad like it too. Unlike children I can guarantee adults will care if its not like what they remember! Last time i checked adults paid for the toys.

Poor marketing plan Lego :(

This approach seems all to similar to the new and "improved" approach to SOME of the batman characters, joker, penguin, scarecrow etc..

Just as in season 4 (batman 1990s) when the artist changed the look of catwoman, joker, penguin etc.. that was when I lost some love for the series, and then it went off the air. Perhaps this dismal ending to a great series should have foreshadowed what can happen when "adaptations" of cult classics occurs. Keep it classic lego and everything will be fine.

Sounds like there is zero chance of figs for Rox Steady, BeBop or Casey Jones. I don't see why they couldn't have a classic Turtles range to compliment the new Turtles styles. Thats basicaly what LEGO have done with Star Wars and everyone seems to be happy, whatever your preferences.

The awful Krang fig says a lot about this new range for me. It is not going for great detail and aiming for a childish look.

No Turtles purchases for me, unless my son gets really into it or they produce some classic 1980's/1990's Turtles sets.

To all: I think the old and new series' are produced by different companies (or something like that) so the TLG would not have the licence to make anything based on the 'old' TV series unfortunately.

I think Casey Jones is a possibility as he's a comic creation, so may appear in the new show (albeit in an updated guise) but I think Rocksteady and Bebop were created for the 'old' cartoon so won't appear in the new one.

The turtles and shredder's minifigures look very good, however the set is below my expectations. The van is horrible and the other vehicle is nothing alike the new ones, it's not even using the 2X4x1 Wheel Screen.

And what about Bebop and Rocksteady? Hopefully the minifigs will look good!

For those who keep commenting on Krang, some info for you. The 80s cartoon was based off Eastman and Laird's original comic. In the comic, aliens called Utroms had robotic bodies and brains in their stomachs, and they were the original creators of the mutagen. For the wonderful 80s cartoon, they decided to just have one guy with a brain in his stomach, which was Krang. The 2003 series reintroduced the Utroms, and then one of the series key villains ended up being an Utrom. Now the 2012 series also has the Utroms, but they decided to call them the Kraang. Anyway, these guys are part of Turtles history, even if it's not the Krang character we grew up with in the 80s/90s.

I am sure that if you get the Turtles Lair set (i.e., the Heroes' HQ) and the Kraang Lab set (i.e., the Villains' HQ), then you will have all four turtles and probably all of the main characters that we AFOLs would recognize.

The "Turtle Lair Attack" will obviously have Splinter, and at least two of the Turtles, and probably two Foot Soldiers too. And then the "Kraang Lab Escape" will probably have two or three Kraang Androids (maybe one endo-skeleton, one with blue-flesh-goop, and one with full skin), with April O'Neil being kidnapped (assuming it is based on the events of the premier episode), and definitely Donatello (because he has the crush on April and wants to free her) and probably Raphael (because he did the most damage to the Kraang guys). If you are still missing Shredder, then you can just get "Shredder's Dragon Bike" so you'll get him, plus probably a new evil mutant (probably that new evil fish mutant with the robotic legs), and whatever last turtle you might be missing (given that if they have a wave of five sets, you usually only need to buy three to get every dude!)... Beyond that, the other vehicle-chase sets, the Shell Raiser and Stealth Shell, probably just give you repeat figures, plus more new evil mutants we would not recognize (we might see Bebop and Rocksteady later if they take the mutagen to the city zoo and mutate a warthog and a rhinoceros, but presumably not until a later episode and a later wave of sets... I am guessing they took those two out of the cartoon for now because they were just too bumbling, and they wanted to make the foot soldiers and the kraang guys and the mutant baddies a little more intimidating and organized and threatening... It definitely feels that way!)

Does that sound about right? =)

And so when can we expect that they will reveal the other sets in the wave? For TMNT, etc?

This set is amazing I mean Mikey's skate board and the canisters from their origin story or as Mikey put it mom. The only this set needs is Raphael's motor cycle you can't have a ninja turtle van with out Raph's motor cycle shooting out the back. Another thing I love about this is that being a kid you can almost never get the 50.00 sets and can NEVER get the 100.00 dollar or above sets. But this is something me and my dad both love so I bet I can convince him to get me the entire series of these sets. I bet some of these other kids can probably convince their parents to buy this series too. So I don't think this series is for adults more for kids (that's probably why this set doesn't appeal to you adults).

@legofanatic2414, and others who've commented on the look of The Krang-- the TV series is actually paying homage to the early comics (Eastman and Laird) where the disembodied-brain alien was the species, not the individual.

People hating on the design... go to the action figure aisle with the 'proper' TMNT toys. That's what the van looks like in the new series. LEGO's not inventing the aesthetic, they're translating it. It's worth noting that the original line also had a lot of insanely random and kind of 'ugly' looking vehicles and playsets. Being 'made from junk & garbage' was a big theme. That said the original Turtle van was a lot more streamlined... *shrugs*

I'd love to see a 'classic' set based on the 80s TMNT but I'm not expecting one. The new toon & toylines are being promoted to kids, these are *their* turtles. I do think the minifigs look terrific, love the shell as a standard LEGO 'backpack' type piece. I will probably pass on them to focus on superheroes and next summer's (likely) second wave of LOTR.

Does anybody really expect this to be more than a one-year line a la POTC?

^^ Yes, but the new toy van has a color scheme of copper and green-oxidized-copper, with purple graffiti that works very well... The way they translated the color scheme to LEGO is a mistake! They also missed a chance to include a treasure trove of copper, rust-tones, purples, and new bright colors in the mix for AFOLS who want to MOC with color.

I was such a big fan of the original series, I took forestmen and gave them make shift weapons and pretended they were the Ninja Turtles, so this is a 20year old dream come true!
The turtles are not too bad, but the new Splinter is ugly (That is Nickelodeon's fault, not lego's).

The "Shellraiser" looks like it 'should' look, though I agree it is extremely ugly:

It's not supposed to be the party wagon. It's supposed to be a whole new vehicle, thrown together from a subway car. If you don't like the new series, why would you buy this set? And why would you tell us about it?

Glory is fleeting. If Lego made a theme based on a - frankly - badly animated cartoon from the early 90s, no kids these days would buy it. If you're lucky, this theme may lead to some more nostalgic sets. Maybe.
