That Batman set is a disappointment. Too much blue on the Bat..at least Lego got the Tumbler size right, still though that's a piss poor attempt at making it. I've seen fan made MOCs make better versions. The Spider-Man set looks cool though.

Posted by Corellian Engineering in Belgium, 11 Oct 2012 10:29

mmm when I first did hear the rumors about that possible tumbler saidm it seemed the most interesting of next years SH line to me. But seeing this picture now, my first impresion was that the tumbler was a mini or something out of a polybag.. It looks a bit simple imho, specialy compared to the older one. Well, with a bit of luck the price in europe isnt to exagerated, though 40$ then it will probably be 50 Euro or more. I guess I still will get it though. That Bane and Gordon are to cool to pass.

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 11 Oct 2012 10:36

Spider-Man, Nova, Beetle, and Dr. Doom all in the same set? I'm there.

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 10:36

The tumbler looks good (despite intitial complaints about the scale). I'm guessing a fig fits inside. The bat looks a bit shonky though... whats with the blue? :( I guess that's easily rectified with a few spare black pieces though...

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 10:41

The spider man set looks awesome however the batman one is abit of a let down. Although I expect the, to have the same number figure when it comes to $-£ but I'd like them to be more fair e.g $50-£40.

Posted by Legolover9531 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 10:54

The Daily Bugle looks great! A must buy! As for The Tumbler and Bat, I'll wait for it to go on sale.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 11:01

I'm actually very disappointed with the Tumbler set. The Daily Bugle looks good though.

Posted by homelesshomie in United States, 11 Oct 2012 11:12

How in the world does TDKR set cost $39.99...that is a rip-off. I rather of seen an $100 dollar TDKR set with actually big vehicles.

Posted by Mr. Timms in United States, 11 Oct 2012 11:33

Am I the only one who wants that Tumbler set mostly for the black n grey Batman fig? The vehicles are okay, but far from home runs... And I like the Bane & Gordon figs (latter more so than the former), but for me it's this variation of the Batman that steals the show. I'm kinda glad the price point is lower because it's a lot easier for me to justify he purchase...

Posted by GothamConstructionCo in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 11:41

the vehicle part count spread has left the tumbler short on detail. the minifigures will make up for that though.

Posted by Kulturkampf in United States, 11 Oct 2012 11:43

I've never been more disappointed in a set than I am in that Bat and Tumbler. Terrible, just terrible.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 11:51

Any word of whether the Tumbler baby is a boy or girl? *LOL* I can't be the only one who coughed out loud when I saw the small Batman Tumbler. It's nothing short of a shame, since between the minifigures and the new bat-vehicle it makes the set a must have for some people. Spiderman has always been my favourite superhero, and given that he has finally made an appearance in a good looking set, I'll buy it for sure. My 2013 list is very short... and surprisingly it's only getting smaller. As always, thanks for the pictures.

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 12:07

I know the Tumbler isn't too detailed but at least its correct minifigure scale! The previous incarnation was at least 4 times too big!

Posted by JaseTJ in United States, 11 Oct 2012 12:08

In my opinion, they put way more meat on the Bat than they needed too, and the Tumbler is obviously way too small. Nothing that can't be fixed, but... I can't say I'm not a little disappointed.

Posted by Morgan19 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 12:56

The fact that people are saying the sets stink, but the figures make up for it, only makes me shake my head in that we'll continue having to put up with sub-par brick builds just for minifigs. Surely it's possible to balance the two?

Posted by Haltiamieli in Finland, 11 Oct 2012 13:01

Easy for me to say as I have next to no interest whatsoever in the whole Superheroes theme, but I have to agree with George G. on the scale. The new one is much better in that aspect than the humongous one in 7888. Considering the piece count it's not _that_ bad looking either. It's just not an eye catcher. Considering it's a bad guy vehicle that kids might find a bit dull anyway I can understand why the designers concentrated more pieces on the flying bat-thing.

Posted by yamaki in Germany, 11 Oct 2012 13:05

Love the tumbler, right size, nice little thing! Don't like the Bat too much though, will see if I am willing to pay the (probably) 50€ for this. The Spiderman set is amazing, but as I don't know the characters, this is not for me I believe.

Posted by sudorum in United States, 11 Oct 2012 13:09

I don't know what that miniature thing is, but it sure isn't the tumbler.

Posted by blounty23 in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 13:12

Nice to see that they've made a set from the new Batman film (sorry if you haven't seen it). And I've always liked Spider-Man Lego, so two good sets. Only problem is, I don't get why Commisioner Gordon is wearing SWAT uniform.

Posted by JaseTJ in United States, 11 Oct 2012 13:21

I don't see how you can say that Tumbler is to scale... Yeah, the old one was a bit big, but honestly guys.

Also, you have to admit the Bat looks pretty awesome, once you get over how little it looks like the one in the movie and how freakin' bulky it is.

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 13:36

@JaseTJ (and some others) - The real Tumbler is 462cm long, which if you think about human-to-minifigure ratios should mean that a LEGO Tumbler should be about the length of 3 Minifigures laying down head to toe - which near enough works in this set :)

Posted by Nexus Force Blacksmith in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 13:40

I kinda think that for a small cheap version the Tumbler isn't that bad. Why they went for weird exposed part decals instead of camouflage print ones however I have no idea. The Bat is growing on me the more I look at it, though the blue is again quite a silly decision. Why didn't they make it all black? Or even black and dark blue, then would be a perfect small scale Bat. Figures are all exceptional and will probably sway me towards a purchase.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 14:11

MEH.

That's what I think of TDKR set. THEY COULD HAVE DONE IT SO WELL.
This... this is a disappointment; given LEGO's recent surge in quality, I'm utterly shocked, and broken... even depressed...

I agree, though: for a small version of the Tumbler, it's good... but it shouldn't be a small version.

Posted by fuelbreak in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 14:13

perhaps the tumbler is to scale but i am very disappointed. When my Indian Jones Shanghai Chase Car compares to the tumbler something is wrong.

I guess the original tumbler price on ebay wont be coming down any time soon.

Posted by shaase in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 14:21

That tumbler is the equivalent and what I'd expect from the three recent Star Wars Mini Tin sets and not a real set...it just looses its intimidation factor in this set.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 14:24

We should petition to LEGO to redo the set, entirely (except for the minifigures): make both the Bat and the Tumbler more like the Cuusoo projects! =P

http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/18529
This is how you do the Bat.

http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/9797
This is how you do a small-scale Tumbler!

Posted by TheJake in United States, 11 Oct 2012 14:34

Batman Set: AWSOME MINIFIGS!!! Not so awsome veihcles. Guess I'm going to have to keep supporting tumbler projects on cuusoo.

Posted by TheLEGOmaniac in Denmark, 11 Oct 2012 14:50

I had high hopes for the new Tumbler. But yeah, it's pretty disappointing. Even the Bat isn't that great. But the figures...

Posted by JaseTJ in United States, 11 Oct 2012 14:59

@George G: Sure, it works... except it's only about two 'figs long.

Posted by BrickBloke in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 15:17

This one sets the standard for me, it even includes a parts list and instructions

http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/8919

@TheLEGOmaniac, completely agree i was so excited about this set but am left feeling rather empty, an excellent opportunity completed wasted by TLG.

Posted by Beanermonkey501 in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 15:35

this is...............terrible. iv spent so many months waiting for this set thinking it would be amazing!. but no. its childish, small and doesnt look like TDKR at all! the bat has blue now. come on! im
dissapointed!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 15:46

That Tumbler is really poor, but the Bat is not bad other than the blue. The Tumbler is just horrible though, those stickers are some of the worst I have ever seen. The Minifigures however are excellent by the looks of it, I have wanted to recreate the "not as serious as yours, I fear" moment since I watched the film! Commissioner Gordon's Minifigure is very welcome too, it is certainly not far enough removed from the comic design to be of no use at all in that line of continuity, and will no doubt prove very useful.

The Spider-man set on the other hand looks rather good, the building is very attractive and the figures are great, other than Jonah Jamieson's hairpiece, why they would not use the crew cut piece is beyond me.

Posted by Beanermonkey501 in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 15:46

when i get this set, ill change all those blue pieces to black.im still getting this set.

Posted by Kez in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 15:52

I think this sets great, it's got a certain characteristic I like and the figs are great, in the movie the Tumbler is human scale and this one is minifig scale

Posted by Noahs-Dad in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 15:56

Totaly agreeing with what seems to be the general consensus in the posts here. The Batman set is very boring and the Spiderman set looks like an essential purchase for any Spiderman fan, as not having the Daily Bugle is a bit like not having the Batcave if you like Batman. Oh and the Dr Doom fig is marvelous.

Posted by rolvtd in United States, 11 Oct 2012 16:19

Am I the only one that wants to see a side by side with set 4432 before I make the call on how the Tumbler looks?

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 16:38

While I agree that the Batman set is a let down, the Spidey set actually looks really nice. We get 5 minifigures in contrast to the previous 50$ Marvel set only having 4 (its not a big difference, but I like it nonetheless).

I may end up buying the Spidey set but I am also severely relieved this set was unveiled. Since mostly all the new Spider-man figures are being used in this set, that means that Venom (the minifigure I care and want the most) will be in the Spider-Cycle set which will probably contain Spider-man, Nick Fury and the symbiote himself. I am so relieved Venom is not gonna be in the more expensive set!

Posted by Nabii in Denmark, 11 Oct 2012 17:09

Just a word in defense of the Tumbler set - this had to be designed over a year ago based only on concept art, the Designer did not have final images from the movie as they were not done yet, things change during filming and in post production. You all have the luxury of having seen the movie and how it was used, all the plot points were top secret and very few of them are shared with toy companies!

Also it has to be buildable by kids (and fun to play with), a secondary colour needs to be brought in to differentiate the layers of black and dark grey - blue is very Batman - the original Tumbler had a lot of yellow hidden away inside it, but in a smaller model like this it's not always possible to hide the brighter colour away.

Posted by zipper in United States, 11 Oct 2012 17:26

Um...I think I'm with most people in saying that that tumbler looks WAY too small. I personally love the old tumbler and was really hoping for a copy of that one only in desert camo colors instead. I guess this set will do, but man the tumbler is a big disapointment.

The Bat on the other hand isn't all bad. It looks like it can hold two minifigs, so that makes me satisfied with it. Is it perfect? No. But I think it looks okay. The only problem with it is that it looks like a pile of parts sitting there. Then again, it kinda looked like that in the movie too, lol.

I'm most excited about the Commissioner minifig. It's about time!

Posted by glenn in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 17:32

To quote Nabii : " It also has to be buildable by kids..." Yes, but don't you find it strange that kids are not legally allowed to see the film (due to age restrictions) but are sold the toy anyway?

In all fairness this happens with a lot of toy manufacturers.

And the Tumbler does look to small.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 17:33

I'd only buy the Tumbler set if it was lowered to $20, but even then, I'd still use...

MY BAT CREDIT CARD.

Posted by Dodge in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 17:55

First impression of the Bat-vehicles was that they looked Fisher Price-like: brighter than they should in colour, softer than they should in appearance. Which, if you're selling to kids (which they kind of are) makes some sense.

I can't imagine a kid that would be old enough to go to this movie in theatres, being young enough to necessitate this style. It is too bad.

Posted by Nabii in Denmark, 11 Oct 2012 17:56

glenn - yes, it's odd. That was a great challenge for the Designer - how to make a cool and desirable Batman toy for 6 year old kids who have not seen the movie and also make a recognizable scene from TDKR. It's a tough one, particularly while trying to get two iconic Batman vehicles in a $40 set, (compare it a a SW $40, it stacks up quite well). I think it's pretty cool, but I have held one, maybe it's better in person!

Posted by duilim in Australia, 11 Oct 2012 18:36

I think the problem most of us have is that the tumbler is too small, perhaps due to the fact that we were expecting something along the lines of the previous tumbler?
Apart from it's size, I quite like it. It's reasonably movie accurate given it's size, and it helps keep the cost down. I won't lie, initially I was disappointed as I was expecting a larger vehicle, but after looking at it for some time, it's starting to grow on me.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 18:40

@Nabii
I don't really see much of a target audience for the tumbler set, aside from 6 year olds, die-hard LEGO collectors, and/or MOC builders.

Just because it's intended for younger builders doesn't mean that they need to do so much of a mediocre job; I mean, look at other sets in this age range/theme! For example, 6862, 6866 (although Marvel), and 6867 (accurate, except for Iron Man).

@duilim
Please see the link to the other LEGO Tumbler Cuusoo project above, in my second comment. They could have gone with an approach more like that, at least something that doesn't make it look like a type of car...

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 11 Oct 2012 18:43

The size I believe is fairly accurate I think, however the details are sorely lacking and it needs a bit of greebling, not some awful stickers! The Tumbler in the film is far from sleek and smooth like this one, but has jagged edges and panelling, which could have been recreated to an extent. The windscreen too is a travesty, where is the middle bit which splits it into two halves? It looks as though if it is included, it will be in the form of a sticker which is simply not acceptable. Never mind though, despite my reservations, I have absolutely no doubt I will be buying this set!

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 11 Oct 2012 19:07

...

I think the Tumbler looks cool...

Posted by crissmonster in United States, 11 Oct 2012 19:08

From the early descriptions, I was hoping for a little larger Spidey set, but I am still very happy. Can't wait!!

Still hoping for an Agent Coulson, White Tiger, Powerman and a few more villains before they stop Ultimate Spider-Man cast theme.

Posted by Namanbricks in United States, 11 Oct 2012 19:13

Very very upset at ego for making the tumbler very small out of scale though all minifigs look great and the bat is very nice for lego to make. The daily bugle set is awesome love the show and hope to buy both of them.

Posted by Haldir56 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 19:38

I am a little disapointed about the color chose for the bat and the tumbler isn't exactly the car crushing behemoth I was hopeing for, but I'll still get the set because of the gordon and bane minifigures.

Posted by captain radda radda in United States, 11 Oct 2012 20:04

I feel like a $100 set would have been the only way to do true justice to the Bat and the Tumbler...but I'm not surprised that Lego took the medium route with this one and made a decent Bat with an average Tumbler. I like the Bat's shape and overall design...but the blue colors butcher it and the exo-force arms connecting the propellers make it look incomplete. The Tumbler is cute. Yes, you read that right. Its not intimidating or huge or menacing like in the film, but instead, is chubby and small. It seems like they made a Star Wars mini-vehicle (like the con exclusives) for Bane's vehicle instead of an adequate counterpart to the film. Oh well...not a bad set...just not a GREAT one like we were all banking on. The Bugle though...now THAT"S a must buy.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 11 Oct 2012 20:33

@ Dragon_Master_48 - totally agree. Thanks for the link.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:04

Yes, the tumbler was designed as an experimental tank, right? So it really needs to be a little bit bigger...

Some of the custom-designed ones for sale on e-Bay look better, about 20 studs long, and about 14 wide...

Plus most of them have four large rear tires, and seat two figs in the cockpit, and look a lot more menacing!

Posted by jasake in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:26

more pieces=better detail=higher price.
they need to balance small sets and big sets. Or if you guys like, the entire superhero line could range from $70-200.

Posted by mrsprewell in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:47

oh well.... at least my 7888 will continue to grow in value...people is buying a sealed 7888 for $500-600 now...

Posted by ninjagoyo in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:49

Although the Tumbler IS too small, size is not the problem, Bad design is.
MANY far superior Tumbler MOCS have been made which are actually SMALLER than this Tumbler.
It is pure sloppiness. And I am not even anti-sticker, at all, I am PRO-sticker usually, but these stickers are so bad they don't even look decent in the publicity shots!
There is no doubt that this was a shoddy, rushed design job, possibly due to the license restrictions. But it shows.

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 11 Oct 2012 21:49

The black-and-blue Bat reminds me of the old TIE Fighters: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20081120022751/legogames/images/b/b8/TIE_Fighter.jpg

@jasake
A price increase by even 10 dollars can make quite a huge difference. I was actually expecting (and hoping) that this set would be closer to $59.99 (which would be about 20 dollars more, allowing for a whole lot of improvement).

Posted by nightmarevalkyrie in United States, 11 Oct 2012 23:03

Hmmm The Batwing and Tumbler set is intriguing but for the price and the figures, I wouldn't have mind at least if you threw in GCPD swat soldier, but 40$ for that tiny tumbler is okay but for younger Lego fans, for AFOLS only if your a die hard collector, I'll just buy the figures on bricklink, the Daily Bugle showdown looks amazing though connect the figures with the Doc Ock showdown and this will be amazing! The price is okay but if you were to take out that little measly airplane it would probably a 40$ set on the other hand for 5 awesome minifigures I can't pass I guess I will just rack up Lego VIP points to get that awesome set!! It also includes two Marvel villains to add to the few Marvel villains Lego has made up!! Green Goblin, Loki, Doc Ock and Magneto!!

Posted by johnnie_tee in Singapore, 12 Oct 2012 01:27

the vehicles (especially that useless tumbler) in both spidey and batman sets are very, very, very, ugly! the daily bugle building and the minifigs are probably the only redeeming features of these otherwise mediocre sets! yup, i will get the minifigs elsewhere. very disappointing indeed! well, money saved!!! ^^

Posted by perfectlydark in Australia, 12 Oct 2012 01:43

i actually like them both!

Posted by wombat in Australia, 12 Oct 2012 01:52

ill get it mainly for the AWESOME TDKR mini-figs,
the BAT, in my opinion, looks terrible. there are many better ones made by AFOL'S and some of which are on CUSSOO (Go support them so that they can become sets).
i like the Tumbler, but it could have been better...

Posted by wombat in Australia, 12 Oct 2012 01:54

here is a good question,
why does Gordon have an Alien Conquest gun????

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 12 Oct 2012 02:08

To the still non-believers....
Average human height is 175cm, and a LEGO minifigure is 4cm tall. If you divide the human height by the the Minifigure height you get 43.75, which I shall call the scale. If you divide 462cm (the length of the Tumbler in real life) you get 10.56cm. The Tumbler in this set is just over 13 studs long, and if you get your rulers out and go and measure.... 13 studs is 10.4 cm! :)

Posted by rnsrobot in Canada, 12 Oct 2012 02:52

Hey folks, has LEGO done a minifigure with a vest/shirt combo in the past? I really want to get that classic J Jonah Jameson vibe, like in the TV monitors on the set. The suit is okay but If there's something close to that 'classic' look I'd love to get that.

Posted by _azazel_ in United Kingdom, 12 Oct 2012 03:08

As a huge Batman fan, I'm very disappointed in the Tumbler model. As soon as I heard about the plans for a TDKR Tumbler model, I was expecting an expensive, huge collectors set, but instead we get a mini-tumbler, and bright blue Bat...

Posted by Dragon_Master_48 in United States, 12 Oct 2012 04:00

@_azazel_
The Bat would be tolerable if it didn't have those blue pieces.
The Tumbler would be great if it were bigger. Old LEGO Tumbler = too big; new LEGO Tumbler = too small.

Posted by slimboy in United Kingdom, 12 Oct 2012 05:29

Needless say I will be buying The Tumbler Chase Set, but with the view of customising the set to improve it, the new tumbler could have been a great model and lego messed it up, it has none of the flair and meaness the tumbler actually has, it seems Lego or my 8 year old threw it together, the windscreen could have been split like the real thing also the only i like about this tumbler is the size is closer to minifig scale than the last, The bat.....what's with all the blue?????? the exoforce arm the hold the engines look incomplete, lego should have found a way to level the engines out, it also seems a little chunky too, but that is my opinion, i've had my moan and have said most of what i wanted to say, I just can't believe lego would produce a build that my kids could design. I believe the minifigs will be a selling point for older collectors.

Posted by legocrazy1234 in United Kingdom, 12 Oct 2012 07:41

What a disapointment. When I first heard there was going to be a tumbler set I thought wow about time. Instead we get this polybag tumbler. I have two of the original tumblers that I had to pay over the odds for so thank goodness for that.

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 12 Oct 2012 12:47

So when can we expect that they will reveal the other sets in the wave? For Super Heroes, etc?

Posted by sitkawitka in United States, 12 Oct 2012 13:06

I am disappointed in the marvel sets this set is basically all the figures except for venom and the long awaited Nick fury so this means there are probably only two or so sets. This also means there maybe the same figures in different sets. And as for dc I knew batman and bane dark knight style would come in the same however I was not expecting the bat nicely done Lego. So I bet white batman is either an exclusive or a snow suit batman battling Mr.Freeze. The Mr.Freeze set must be an add on to the asylum as for Aquaman I wonder what they will do with him. Hmmm.

Posted by blounty23 in United Kingdom, 12 Oct 2012 14:28

Lots of new super heroes sets and new lines. But no: modular buildings, no details in Collectable minifigures and there hasn't been any detail in this 'polar express' stuff.

Posted by perfectlydark in Australia, 13 Oct 2012 05:51

also on Super Heroes, wheres the xmen sets? Seen a whole 1 of them so far, and in my opinion its the line that has possibly the greatest potential. Must see more X Men!

Posted by brixton in Canada, 14 Oct 2012 07:50

@blounty23: There is a new modular building in 2013. It'll probably come out in March like in previous years.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 14 Oct 2012 14:32

The Tumbler is the right size I believe, to be the only issue is in the detail, the shape and size is perfect, but there should be some greebling at least.

Posted by Noahs-Dad in United Kingdom, 16 Oct 2012 08:02

Agree with icey about the stickers. Has anyone else noted, stickers in general in all set ranges seems to be on the increase. There is probably a direct correlation between using stickers (instead of printed pieces), and higher profits for the LEGO shareholders. It's an obvious production cost saving in these difficult recession like times for most of their customers.

We really should keep moaning about it and if necessary avoid buying heavily stickered sets, otherwise printed bricks will either became a happy memory of the past, or at best a rare piece in the occassional set.
