    An email mail-shot has gone out to, presumably, shop.LEGO.com buyers in France to announce the opening of the store near Paris:

    The LEGO Store SO WEST opens its doors on October 18!

    We are very pleased to announce the opening of the first LEGO Store in France, Levallois-Perret, in the mall SO WEST.

    Visit the LEGO Store to participate in exciting events, enjoy good deals and buy exclusive sets!

Cela me donnera une raison de plus pour revoir Paris! En attendant, que Lego se decide d'ouvrir un magasin ici a Montreal ou encore dans la ville de Quebec!

You should called it "SO OUEST" instead of "WEST SO". This is a name so you don't have to translate it. :)

I'm seriously considering going on Thursday morning - what can I expect at a Lego opening? Exclusive sets if I buy for €50 or more? Anything else?
I try not to buy at retail prices, and there is nothing I really want until the Horizon Express comes out - though as its a TGV and this is their first French store, and I want it, maybe they should just make it available, lol

c'est possible qu'il y ait qq avant premiere pour les produits "français".
Pour la sortie de la tour eiffel , cette derniere avait ete dispo avant sa disponibilite sur legoshop au shop @ shop du village joueclub.

My French is very bad. As I will be in Paris October 26, I might squeeze a trip in. Perhaps they will have the usual for a new location: "a key chain". A perfect item to take home.

The location isn't that far from my hotel on Boulevard Haussmann [Metro-Richelieu-Drouot, on 8 and 9 metro line]. But I am unable to figure out how far [Mapquest gives 55 minutes walking]

Would this be worth taking a taxi?

"Pour la sortie de la tour eiffel" This doesn't seem to be very close to la Tour Eiffel. Perhaps the rest of the sentence would let me know if they are on the same Metro line?

Irene, don't bother taking a taxi. You'll be staying 10 stations away from the Lego store, you might as well ride the subway, it'll be fast and cheap. From "Richelieu-Drouot", take line 9 (Pont de Sèvres) to get to "Havre-Caumartin". Once there, switch to line 3 (Pont de Levallois) and get off at "Louise Michel." On foot, the "So Ouest" mall is only a few minutes away (see this page for a map showing the way from the Louise Michel station to the mall: http://www.soouest.com/W/do/centre/plan-d-acces-calcul-itineraire (bottom of the page). Just back from visiting the shop. My one word reaction is: underwhelmed.

I guess I was expecting something more like the Rockafellar Centre Lego store in NYC, which has wonderful displays. Here there was nothing on display - maybe it'll take time for them to build stuff up, I dunno. There were normal sets on display of course, but no big 'ol MOCs that you see, even in the TRU at nearby La Défense, there is a huge Eiffel Tower and a full size Star Wars Trooper of some kind.

I asked a member of the sales staff what exclusives or special gifts were being dished out if I spent money there today, and she told me I'd get double VIP points! And a free key-ring if you spend €55 or more on Star Wars. So basically nothing that you don't get on Shop@Home.

They did have a nice selection of sets, and the pick a brick wall looked good to me - some interesting pieces (tan 2x2 tiles?), but I'm not a pick a brick expert, so take that for what its worth. Pricewise, the big cup was €15 - which seemed like decent value to me - and the smaller one €9 I think.

I was kinda hoping against hope that they'd have the Horizon Express available, as the TGV is French, and somebody on HothBricks had mentioned that they'd been selling the Eiffel Tower set in Paris before it became widely available. Obviously it wasn't there, and I've no real interest in buying anything else, so I got nothing. Sorry I took no photos.

The shopping mall itself is an horrendeous affair, the underground parking has a capacity of 1750 car I believe, my 15 minutes in the Lego store cost me €2.10 in parking fees, and the traffic was awful coming back! At least I bought some chocolates for the wife while I was in there.

Before going out to So Ouest, you should visit the Lego shop (Village JouéClub) on Rue Druout, within walking distance of your hotel - its very small, but just very nice - its part of a kind of mini-shopping centre that only has toy shops, and they have a lot of Lego exclusives, but you won't get any VIP points there, cos its not a Lego owned store.

Now I just need to convince my travel companion that So Ouest is on the way to Musee Marmottan or La Tour Eiffel, or L'Orangerie.

I wouldn't be purchasing any sets, and only looking for a 10Euro or less purchase.

I don't think the Village JoueClub will do - but it might be a nice walk from the Hotel.

I am surprised that the Lego - Store didn't offer a special opening key chain or Mini-figure. Perhaps that will be on their "offical" opening in November.
[If you look through brickset - there are these special items for other store openings.]

Looks like a one day Metro pass will be a good bet.
