Hawkeye and his equipment

30165 HawkeyeToday's offering in The Sun is 30165 Hawkeye with equipment.

This is another great set to be included in the lineup: Hawkeye was previously only available in expensive sets and, as far as we know, the polybag itself has only been available in Sweden before now.

I don't know what your experience has been like but, again, my branch was quiet today and they even had some of yesterday's sets left, so it looks as if there are plenty to go round this time.

same experience as you Huw. Bought 4 papers and 4 polys (not all for myself I hasten to add!), then one of the very helpful staff asked me & my daughter if we would like some of yesterdays as they had a lot spare. He literally gave me a handful, 4-5 Thors, for free. I didn't really need them, but you have to accept free lego! A great morning!

Posted by gfones in United States, 28 Oct 2012 08:55

I wish our paper did that, all we get is the insert store sales :(

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 08:55

@goldfish: do most branches do that? If they have leftovers do they just give them out for free? I hope so, because I missed yesterday's.

Really hope I get a chance to go out today, because I really like that figure.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 09:12

^^ This is about our only chance to do 'extreme couponing'!

Totally OT - Have you ever watched that show: people who go grocery shopping with hundreds of coupons end often end up with the shop giving *them* money when they leave with hundreds of $s worth of stuff. Is that really possible to do in the US? It certainly isn't here.

Posted by Adwil24 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 09:15

I work in a fairly small store and we have 650 units of LEGO each day this time so they certainly have sent more out to stores, in fact maybe too much we still have 100 Thor sets left

was windy and raining in liverpool , very quiet indeed .
A skinny man bought 20 newspaper and demand the staff to scan the barcode quickly

Although my local had the sets, they ran out of papers so had to buy one roud te corner at the post office and then go ack and collect the poly bag.

As I Posted Yesterday Saturday was very quiet in Plymouth & I predicted today would be busy and it was ! By 1010 the queue was 100+ strong Outside WHSmiths I'd bought my papers elsewhere and had the tokens ready I received my Lego whilst queuing in the shop TRU didn't open until 11am and I noticed a massive queue there as I returned to my car Due to work I can't get any more sets But am happy with the few I got

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 09:26

^^^^ that sounds a bit like the situation at my local store in the Midlands @Adwil24.

They had at least a couple of boxes of Thors left today, and as stated were happily handing out a few to people buying Hawkeyes. It was a really nice set up, but I guess it only takes one person to go and take the mickey and attempt to get an entire box from yesterday.

Posted by Frederick B. in Norway, 28 Oct 2012 09:40

This poly bag have been aviable in Norway already

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 10:17

The Eastbourne store was almost empty this morning, but unfortunately there were none of yesterday's sets left so I will have to fork out on eBay for that. A nice little model in my opinion. Now on to tomorrow!

Out of interest, do the sets for the entire week get delivered on the first day of the promotion or on each day? I only ask since I have noticed that on eBay some sellers seem to have got their hands on them early.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 11:50

The Hamilton branch was pretty much deserted when I went in at about 3 o'clock. Ample papers and polybags left so I got mine no problem. Unfortunately no Thors left, but I'm okay with just the Hawkeye one. Well worth 50p!

Next time I go will be Sunday for Frodo (want the hair and bottle). It's pretty lucky for me that the ones I want are at weekends.

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 12:00

@Huw, Hawkeye was available in the £20 Iron Man jeep set, which I wouldn't class as one of the more expensive ones. A Iron Man poly on the other hand would be very desirable though.

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 12:08

Had 8 vouchers ready, and in the rush of 50+ people herding into WHS I handed them over and received 11 Hawkeyes back! The original 8 are for my use, but the other 3 will go towards Trick-or-Treaters on Weds.

Posted by NeilJam in United States, 28 Oct 2012 12:34

What do you mean he was "only available in expensive sets"? You could have said that about Thor for yesterday's giveaway set, but that's stretching it for Hawkeye. He is in Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape, one of the smaller Super Heroes sets, which I wouldn't consider to be expensive.

Posted by Venunder in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 12:44

I thought I had missed today's figure, due to work. But I was able to get some at 12 noon.
There does seem to be a few more available this time.

I hope it stays that way for the Coffin Car, Uruk hai and Bilbo. :) :) :)

Posted by sbport01 in United States, 28 Oct 2012 12:57

i live in the us and you can get hawkeye in a set for only twenty dollars.

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 13:16

I purchased my Sun in the morning and got my Hawkeye, and went back in the afternoon with the un-ticked off coupon to a different set of cashiers but was told that you got the polybag with the newspaper, not the coupon alone! Sort it out....

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 13:17

The Uruk-Hai polybag is the one which I think we are all waiting for, and I have a question concerning it. How many polybags would you say is the upper limit for one person? I think that will the most chaotic in store due to its desirability, but what kind of volume is reasonable do you think?

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 13:45

@CapnRex101,

I would say 5 per different branch. The problem with asking for say 10 or 20, is you look a bit of prat, especially if there is a big queue, and especially if you are turned down. Everybody in the queue will assume you are an ebay scalper. If you are not bothered about the potential embarrassment, then give it a try.

Posted by mutley777 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 13:47

Tough question. But if they are all for your own collection then should there be a limit? I hope to pick up 30+.
None for resale and a few for helping out friends abroad. I will visit quite a few stores next sat as I am lucky enough to live in north Surrey and have 7 stores in reasonable driving distance.

Posted by dino-girl in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 14:16

@mutley777

Just don't clear out the Sutton branch leave me 5 ok lol

Posted by Vroomo in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 14:19

@George G
"Sort it out" Well the fact you only got one polybag after paying for one paper sounds to me like they do have it sorted out.

Posted by DarthTyranus89 in Ireland, 28 Oct 2012 15:36

Went into my local Smyths today.. didnt have any coupons and they gave me yesterdays and todays!

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 28 Oct 2012 16:32

Huw- Yes it is. You just have to put a LOT of work into it. And you have to find local grocery stores that have coupons that stack.

Posted by voyanuitoa in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 16:44

Punishent for scalpers - anyone who buys more than say, 10 newspapers, actually has to read each individual newspaper from cover to cover. It's enough to make anyone think twice.

Posted by Multiversal in N/A, 28 Oct 2012 17:25

Just for clarity's sake, I might add that this polybag was also available sometime in I-wanna-say-June with the Danish Ander And & Co. (the Donald Duck magazine). =)

Posted by Psymon in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 17:28

@Huw - Is that really possible to do in the US? It certainly isn't here.

Yes it is actually, there was a documentary on More4 about extreme couponing and a woman who got around £200 worth of shopping for 60p or something daft.

Posted by mutley777 in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 18:15

@dino-girl

Should be fine. I only buy 5 in each store. :-)

Posted by aaclapham in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 18:18

There does seem to be a big anti-scalpers group of people on here, however some people cannot get the polybags so how are they ment to get them, if not from ebay? As long as they are only selling them at a reasonable price then I don't have a problem with that.

Posted by ccjwprongs in United Kingdom, 28 Oct 2012 19:05

Got Hawkeye today but was told I couldn't have Thor from yesterday as I didn't have a coupon, despite them having plenty in stock and being unlikely to shift them all (the store was pretty much deserted). Oh well, the Thor polybag is only a few quid off eBay now so it's no big deal. I'll collect the other coupons during the week and go back on Saturday to see what they have left (and bag an Uruk or two).

Posted by Okay in United States, 28 Oct 2012 21:01

What do you mean Hawkeye only came in expensive sets? Do you consider Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape expensive? I guess it seems like much compared to a FREE polybag, but it's the second smallest Avengers set and the only Avenger that comes in a cheaper set is Captain America.

And to answer Huw's question, I don't think so. I've never seen it done in real life and the only time I got money from the grocery store is when I brought empty bottles for recycling which doesn't really count as a coupon.

Posted by nightmarevalkyrie in United States, 28 Oct 2012 21:28

Hopefully this will come to TRU eventually to us in the US, I hope they made a Black widow polybag though :/

Posted by CzechMate in Australia, 29 Oct 2012 05:06

Got a friend in the UK getting them all for me, really happy. This, Thor, coffin car and Uruk hai are my favourites.

Posted by Psymon in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 05:20

Quinjet looks nothing like the picture on the polybag.

Posted by jon_k in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 05:48

got mine again this morning and it seems like some other stores that there are some of Sundays sets left over but coupon is needed. Fell a bit sorry for those who present the voucher only and dont get the set, obviously Smiths see it as a way to boost their sales of the paper ? Roll on Wednesday for the coffin car

Posted by lucienc in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 07:45

Presenting the voucher from a paper you bought elsewhere is how it's supposed to work. Local WHSmiths honors that.

In prior releases like this, the local store introduced 2 rules.

1. You have to take the papers with you (they had 400 extra papers turn up the next day once, as they'd sold the same papers over and over)
2. You can have 10 maximum in one go (although I know this wasn't enforced this weekend)

Posted by POLYBAGMASTER in United Kingdom, 29 Oct 2012 15:43

Just finished the count for Sunday's HAWKEYE only got 191 and none for the lazy people on EBAY who can't be bothered.........

Posted by Odeinoichus in Canada, 29 Oct 2012 21:27

Having just gotten Thor for free from TRU after spending 35+ CND $ I would really hope to see the Hawkeye set show up in Canada too. He looks fairly impressive. Same goes for that Uruk-Hai, we've had Frodo hanging around for ages and I'd like to get the other LotR Pollybag. Perhaps even two of it.

You UK collectors certainly have a much easier time of collecting polybags, comparatively speaking. The only store to even stock them in Canada as far as I know is TRU and then they rarely stock all of them. Their Bricktober giveaways are also hit or miss apparently as they wind up selling off excess stock at 5$ a polybag. (Picked up two Ghosts with Clocks and a Zombie Chauffeur today as part of my deal to get the free Thor bag.) And it looks like I'll be heading there again tomorrow to pre-order the game and fetch Elrond.

You know, I remember a time when LEGO produced Polybag sets and had them sell everywhere, you could walk into any major retailer and they would be stocked in massive quantities, back in the good old days of the late 80's and early 90's. Now they have to resort to events, giving them away for free to a bunch of crazed collectors, ordinary children and even the dreaded scalpers. What happened? Why has the Polybag become more of an event item as opposed to the cheap alternative to a boxed set it used to be for us LEGO enthusiasts?

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 30 Oct 2012 04:21

^I would not disagree Odeinoichus, it is easier to get polybags here in the UK, but we often get most of them after everybody else since this kind of promotion only occurs twice a year.

Posted by timmyt15 in United States, 30 Oct 2012 08:41

I think this is a great set very cool but one problamo there is no place on the equipment rack to place hawkeyes bow :(

Posted by timothystalwart in Ireland, 30 Oct 2012 11:15

The Irish Sun are doing this promotion too!

Here's a funny ad that they did:
