I went into EB games yesterday to get my Xbox 360 version of LEGO Lord of the Rings and the exclusive Elrond minifigure.

I was VERY disappointed to find Warner Bros accidently packaged DEMO versions of the game instead of the full versions pushing the release date back further. If you picked up your game in the last few days, you had better check if you have the full version as this demo issue has affected many. This press release was aimed at the US but it has affected Canada as well.

UPDATE: It appears the press release states that the games were indeed the full versions, just labeled incorrectly. This however is NOT what I was told at EB games, and demo or not, they wouldn't even sell me a game because of the issue.

Please follow the link for the full article at examiner.com:

"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of "LEGO The Lord of the Rings" video games that were released for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys 'R' Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible. Consumers who purchased a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game with the disc labeling error can contact customer support via email at support@wbgames.com or phone 410-568-3680 for a replacement disc."

Its been confirmed on most major gaming sites that its just a printing error. The disk says demo on it, but its still the full game. The article you posted even states it directly:

"The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional."

Can somebody bump or post the other error. It looks like all the Elrond Minifigures have come with a Hobbit sized Cape and not the correct full length one shown on the package or in the Designer Interview of the Minifigure.

This the first and only time I've gotten the runaround from Lego Customer Service!

I was suposed to get it yesterday=(

If they have the full game on it then these DEMO will become collectible items...

I have not had a chance to look at the Elrond Figure yet in person so please confirm in the comments if you have found this Incorrect cape size like Necofurtim states.

I Remember another new article from a couple weeks back (or so) where this was identified by other Brickset members. I can confirm that the two I received this week (one from US other from Canada) both came with the short hobbit cloak.

Necofurtim, is Lego customer service refusing to send the correct cloak size?

Thankfully I have a PS3!

This is the first time I have been grateful to have a Wii! Picked up a copy yesterday.

Picked up the Wii version today, after a few days delay with the GameStop preorder. The figure does indeed have a short cape. Looks kind of funny but my kids didn't notice, didn't care.

Canada still has EB Games?

Posted by TH3_L3G0_G3N1U5 in Canada, 15 Nov 2012 21:20

Yes, we have EB Games still, ha ha. They were hoping to unify everything, and eventually turn all the EB Games stores into Gamestop stores. When I got a local store, they had it labelled as Gamestop. But now, a few years later, they have gone back to EB games, probably because of the already established and familiar name.

Anyways, back on topic! :P

Rather a funny error, even if it is just a label error.

As far as EB not selling a copy, it is probably because they were instructed to NOT sell the games as the company will recall them from the stores to avoid confusion with the consumer. We read this news online, so we are aware of this error. What about some little old granny who buys the game for her grandson? She won't know any different. (Just an example)

I'd keep the fake demo copy just for the novelty of having a misprinted disc.

I went to my gamestop on the 13th and they didn't even have the game but they had the Elrond figure @_@

Yes the capes all come with the short Hobbit cape. I have 2 and they both have the short cape. I've been asking around the forum here and on eurobricks and have not seen one person report having a CORRECT LONG cape. I even emailed LEGO twice about it and they gave me the run around. Saying the short cape IS the correct cape and sorry for any confusion the package gave.

LEGO told me the first phone call to Contact the Retailer (GameStop), then put me on hold came back to Call Warner Brothers...

I emailed LEGO Customer Service with a detailed Complaint. They replied and called back stating its a "Graphical Error" in the Packaging ..!?! Ummm...Yeah....

Got a call back saying all they could do is send me a brown Full Length Cape..

I hate to put this out there but, LEGO maybe used their Brand Name and Loyalty to skip around the Quality Control they have Overseas...I'd Pay the Extra $ to get the CORRECT part!!, I think the game is one of/THE best "LEGO" games made.

I'm confused that I've read posts that Lego is replacing some peoples missing "Earth Blue" LONG CAPES, and blowing off others.

Posted by shaase in Canada, 16 Nov 2012 00:54

I guess Elrond has a fear of tripping or was afraid his weapon my get caught up in his cloak so he went for a shorter one. I'm guessing Lego customer service won't replace the cloak as this is a polybag and not a true set, plus it was free with another purchase. People on Bricklink who have any of the correct cloaks will be busy.

Are we certain the Elrond minifigure was intended to come with a full-length cape? After all, the Chase McCain minifigure's packaging had a preliminary/erroneous version of the character, so Elrond's might have as well. Granted, the cape appearing in a designer video for the minifigure (to be honest, I haven't seen that since I haven't really been following this game) is a strong strike against that, since all videos featuring Chase McCain did feature the correct hair piece rather than the incorrect one from the packaging. And in any event, two such packaging errors in such quick succession is a problem any way you slice it, as it quite rightly leads to customer dissatisfaction with the actual product.

In case it's any help to anyone, one Element ID for the full-length cape is 4506798: http://cs.us.lego.com/en-US/replacementparts/showBrick.aspx?item=4506798&lod=5&size=2 . Mentioning this to LEGO Customer Service might make it easier for them to send you a copy of the full-length cape, though they may charge a small fee since there is not technically any part "missing" from the set. And hopefully while there is a lot of confusion going on regarding this issue at the moment, LEGO Customer Service will get their act together eventually just as they did with the Warm Gold coins and bars from the Pirates of the Caribbean theme.

How did you get/find that Element ID, I've been looking through pick a brick and the replacement parts with no luck?

Posted by Aanchir in United States, 16 Nov 2012 12:30

To be honest? I just went to the Bricklink inventory for a fig that included that cape and clicked the "Show Part Color Codes" button. But it would also be possible to check the instruction booklet inventories of sets that include those parts, since many of them came out after 2006 when inventories became standard in LEGO instruction booklets.

I wonder if a similar issue is affecting the PC version of the game...

Today I picked up my 3DS version of the game with the Elrond figure and a short cape for me aswell.

I contacted TLC. The blue cape is no longer in their productionline. And therefor not in stock. I was adviced to contact Warner Bros. Because they gave the fig for free.
TLC has good hopes WB will take this serious.

So lets send them a bunch of emails!
