Brickset member CupIsHalfEmpty has found two Galaxy Squad sets in TRU, Winnipeg, Canada, already! He found the smallest 70700 Space Swarmer and the largest, 70705 Bug Obliterator. I've added the images to the database and I've uploaded the full-sized perspective-corrected images to flickr where you can see them in their full resolution glory, below.

CupIsHalfEmpty has added other pictures of what he found on the shelves to his flickr stream.

Wow, the Bug Obliterator looks pretty cool, looks like there's some transforming function with the ships wings, and the cyborg(?) sidekick looks great. I like the helmet in the Space Warmer set too, looks kind of like a bounty hunter or specialist trooper. Looking forward to seeing the rest!

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 20 Nov 2012 03:51

Yeah those new helmets will be popular. Lots of orange, lime green and dark red so far then - and the alien bug does have antennae! I like what I see.

Posted by CCC in United Kingdom, 20 Nov 2012 04:03

FEMALE trooper in 70705! That'll please the 50:50 squad.

I still prefer the Galaxy Patrol CMF to these figures.

The space swarmer reminds me of Atlantis - both design and colours - just that now the alien is in the vehicle, rather than the human.

Also, on CupIsHalfEmpty flickr page, we can see Creator 31008 "Thunder Wings"... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupishalfempty/8202070720/in/photostream/)

Love it! Can't wait to see the rest. Thanks

Posted by vorwand13 in United States, 20 Nov 2012 05:32

These are nice and all, but orange again? The last space theme was orange and white (not counting Alien Conquest)

I would have prefered earth blue, to go with the Galaxy Patrol. Or red!

Posted by Starik20X7 in Australia, 20 Nov 2012 06:06

That robot looking dude in 70700 looks sweeeeet!

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 20 Nov 2012 06:30

It will be a modular build I believe. It looks like you can swap/combine the cockpits from the ship and from the terrain vehicle. The similar concept was used already with the Blacktron sets ;-). This is promising. Also, it looks like one of the trooper was caught in a cocoon or an egg of some sort.

Forgive me for not being as excited about Galaxy Squad-- but getting far less attention in his pics is the fact that THE 2013 CITY SETS are also out on those shelves!!!!!!! CEMENT MIXER!!

Posted by Leggo my LEGO in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 06:42

Octan Energy tanker! I still need to get the tanker from 2010, so the new one can have a nice older looking cousin.

Posted by obiron17 in United Kingdom, 20 Nov 2012 08:19

Just checked this guys Flickr pics and when did Canada get The Hobbit sets the lucky gits!!! Not fussed about the
Galaxy Squad beyond the figs.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 20 Nov 2012 08:24

Love the look of the spaceships, especially the alien ones, but what's with that blue human minifigure in the smaller set? It looks like something from 20 years ago compared to the Galaxy Patrol CMF with that bulky brick-built jetpack and that reaaaally old space gun/camera piece. I appreciate that they're trying to do more stuff brick-built, but in this case I think they should've gone with something else.

Still looks great overall though.

Posted by cupishalfempty in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 09:30

I went to TRU on the way to the airport to see if they had any of the Mirkwood Elf polybags, and I ran into a gold mine of new sets. I was already late heading to the airport, but I proceeded to run around taking pictures like a kid in a candy store. Sorry for the poor quality, but I was pretty much running.

Thanks for all the positive comments, Glad I could share with the community.

Posted by vexorian in Bolivia, 20 Nov 2012 09:34

The galaxy patrol is awfully overrated. Those helmets were terrible. Orange print is no replacement for a transparent visor.

The new helmet looks rad. In fact, everything about that 70700 set is awesome. Too bad TLG is license infested and as such the retailers in my city are unlikely to ever have space for any non-licensed set that is not city, ninjago, HF, friends, creator or technic...

70705 would be great if it included only the insect thing and got rid of anything that contains the color orange. Except for the robot fig.

Posted by TheMinifigFreak in United States, 20 Nov 2012 09:39

These sets look a lot like a mixture of all the themes from the 21 st century. The theme concept is Space Police, the troopers vehicles design are very close to Alien Conquest, and the bugs and colors remind me a lot about Mars Mission

Posted by peterlmorris in United States, 20 Nov 2012 10:18

I like the look of the alien vehicles. There's still not really enough detail to make a call about the robot helpers. I'm just so thrilled to have more Space! And trans-red canopies! I was really hopimg to see pics of the thing from the comic. That looks epic!

Posted by joedapoboy in United States, 20 Nov 2012 10:44

@Chicocheco

The logo seems to imply that vehicle splitting is a prominent aspect of the whole theme

Posted by Nexus Force Blacksmith in United Kingdom, 20 Nov 2012 10:50

Awesome. Love the minifigs with their epic looking helmets. Appealing lime-red colour scheme for the insects also. Better get saving...

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 20 Nov 2012 10:53

When is this theme supposed to come out by the way? January (a.k.a mid-December)?

Posted by The_Creator in United States, 20 Nov 2012 11:00

Epic! I saw the pics on EB and the forum before I saw them here...
The robots are excellent but the gray torsos are kinda meh. I'm loving the $99.99 set's space ship...
My local TRU better not have these or I'm gonna have to pay there pathetic prices :P

Posted by legos4ever in United States, 20 Nov 2012 11:10

AMAZING! great job LEGO!

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 20 Nov 2012 11:40

So Lego created their own Master Chief huh? Nice. I got that sense right away. Now they just need to steal the Bungie license away from Mega Blocks...

Posted by The_Rizulli in United States, 20 Nov 2012 11:48

Love, love, LOVING these Galaxy Squad sets! I wish I had something more thoughtful to add, but I'm too busy geeking out over all the LEGO Space goodness.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 20 Nov 2012 12:15

Nothing new showing up on the US or Canada TRU sites yet, so it may be another day or so. Lego.com has nothing either.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 20 Nov 2012 12:16

Mars Mission 2.0, just what we needed... not.

The designs look nothing like Alien Conquest, it looks like Mars Mission mixed in with Instiods. This theme is a miss to me. No Castle, horrible Space theme. I'm saving money next year!

Posted by TH3_L3G0_G3N1U5 in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 12:46

Guess I'll have to make a trip into the city sometime soon! I live 1 hour west of Winnipeg.

Posted by vynsane in United States, 20 Nov 2012 13:55

@ The_Creator - the price of 70705 is $99.99 in TRU in Canada - the prices I've seen have it around $70 USD/70 Euro.

Posted by TheJake in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:01

I wouldn't mind if Space Marines got replaced by this.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:09

There was never going to be a Space Marines theme.

Posted by jamesster in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:10

My wallet is already feeling the pain, but I can't stop smiling. This looks awesome, I can't wait to see the rest of the sets! The minifigures look really good as well, loving the androids especially.

@The Green Brick Giant, there's apparently a new Castle theme set for release in the later half of 2013 too, some set names have been found recently:

70400 Forest Ambush
70401 Gold Getaway
70402 The Gatehouse Raid
70403 Dragon Mountain
70404 Kings Castle

70705 is growing on me but I am not too taken by the alien vehicle, on sale these will probably make their way into the Lego colelction at home.

Posted by lego613master in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:19

Is 70705 the $100 USD set? Or $60 (USD)?

Posted by kmvk83 in Netherlands, 20 Nov 2012 14:21

I really like the minifigs.
Looks like an alien has allied with earth squad? Atleats so it seems in the 70705 boxs lower right corner between the normal figs. Or is this just a new helmet?

To be honest this is the first time I am considering getting my hands on just the figs and not the vehicles as well.

^new castle sets? Oh no.... I need a second job....

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 20 Nov 2012 14:21

These look decent to me, but I would rather have seen more Alien Conquest personally. Nevertheless, I am excited to get my hands on these!

Is anybody else seeing a lot of http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7644-1 in that large Galaxy Patrol ship? I think it is the shape that does it.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 14:28

In my opinion this theme is the complete opposite of Alien Conquest. Before it was the humans that were desirable while the aliens were well below par (in a bad way). Now it looks like the aliens are the desirable minifigures while the humans are just... well... orange!? No seriously, why of all colours did Lego have to choose orange? They look like BombSquad Troopers from Starwars. I always appreciate new set pictures (thank you), however, I consider it bad luck that the two above are of such unattractive Lego sets. I was certainly among the people on the bandwagon surrounding the hype of this new mysterious theme... but I'll be honest, I can't even pretend to like the two sets pictured above.

If TRU Canada wants to sell them for those prices, they can keep them!

Posted by jamesster in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:31

@Ypres, from what I've heard (and looking at the blue android in the smaller set), it seems the human faction has various sub-factions in different colors - think Classic Space or Futuron, except the vehicles use different color schemes too, not just the minifigures piloting them. So there will probably be blue or green vehicles and human minifigures too, or whatever other colors are used.

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 14:41

I don't like those robots, but everything else is cool.

Posted by Goldmatt in United States, 20 Nov 2012 14:54

Does anyone else get tired of the repetative nature of the space themes? Beyond the space marines(which aren't even that new after alien conquest) it feels like a rerun.

Posted by Odeinoichus in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 15:19

I saw the smaller set yesterday, someone had stashed it behind a bunch of large SW sets at the local TRU Express, couldn't find a price scanner so I left it behind as I didn't have much with me at the time anyway. And quite honestly, with all the Themes I collect, adding this one to the mix could be a bad idea. I was already dissapointed in TRU for taking a 9.99$ Hobbit set and jacking it up to 12.99$ Not about to pay over-inflated prices for these sets.

Those Mini-Figures don't bother me too much, then again I haven't looked too closely at them yet. If they make any GS Polybags I'll probably pick those up to see what the level of quality is like with the MFs, depending on if Canada gets them. However I'll more than likely pass on the boxed sets, I've got to save up so I can score all the new TMNT sets once they hit retail.

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 20 Nov 2012 15:23

I am missin the classic space logo though.

Posted by Beanermonkey501 in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 15:56

really? light blue marines. i guess lego wanted it to be like adu. ill get some of these though.

Posted by odindusk in United States, 20 Nov 2012 15:57

70705 is the flagship set for the theme? Disappointing. I feel that any space-themed series needs to have a big base/HQ as the standout kit. This is yet another vehicular set that LEGO seems awfully fond of these days. (I dare you to count the number of vehicles in Ninjago)

Posted by Maniac4Legos in United States, 20 Nov 2012 16:19

I'm excited for these sets! Glad to see space being brought back. I like the color variation in this theme, between red, orange, lime green, blue, white and dark red!

I agree with @odindusk that there should be some base or HQ for either side (more likely the Galaxy Squad teams), as there have been for past space themes like Space Police. I also agree with his note of LEGO's vehicle envy for set ideas.

I do wish they had the outfits that the Series 7 Galaxy Patrol minifigure had. It's a great torso and helmet piece.

Posted by davewiz in United States, 20 Nov 2012 17:00

@odindusk: Space Police III had a large spaceship in the first wave (5974) and then a base in the next year's release (5985). I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar happen here.

Posted by Brickcreator in United States, 20 Nov 2012 17:02

These sets look very cool. I love the 'almost' revival of Insectoids.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 20 Nov 2012 17:41

From these pictures, Ninjago leaks, and LoC leaks, it looks like the smaller sets are going to be the better sets of the year. My wallet likes that.

Posted by f-man in United States, 20 Nov 2012 21:01

The humans are a little lame, but I love the design of the aliens' ships.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 20 Nov 2012 22:01

Just went to the TRU in question. The sets are very nice, and I might think of buying them. I wonder what prompted TLG to let Winnipeg have the first of these sets.

Posted by legorokz112 in United States, 20 Nov 2012 23:12

Well I didn't expect them to be THAT cool. Wow, I'll have to start saving! :D

Posted by davedude in Canada, 21 Nov 2012 00:10

i bet they released these in canada cause i was whining we never get any promos!! lol

Posted by Balthazar Brannigan in United States, 21 Nov 2012 01:39

Does anyone else notice the neon swarm flooding the Earth in the background of the artwork?
This feels like a combination of thematic elements from Alpha Team, Mars Mission, and Insectoids... done very well and in exciting colors (for both factions).

Posted by BlackRabbit in Canada, 21 Nov 2012 02:01

The other sets can be seen here -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupishalfempty/8204803542/in/photostream

I'm particularly fond of the 3 sets in the left corner.
I'm curious if the "BattleMech" listed in the collectible minifig series 9 is going to be similar to the Gundam style robots in this theme.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 21 Nov 2012 02:16

Turns out the first pictures we got have the worst set, and the worst colors.

I really don't like different colors through, I like armies, but at least now we can get better colors in the better sets. The robots bug me too, but I can ignore that.

The other sets look a lot better than the big set, thank gods. I still like Alien Conquest more, but the mech and rover and the blue fighter look nice.

And what's up with the lame amount of mini figures? A robot and a human per set? LEGO needs to stop being cheap with minifigures in SPace sets.
Anyone want to guess on prices?

Posted by fikko3107 in Indonesia, 21 Nov 2012 03:55

the retro box art reminds me of the 1980s sets. the molded heads look really cool.

Posted by MrSeatle in United States, 21 Nov 2012 09:15

Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed in the minifigs. I was hoping for more of a Space Marine look... They look like "power miners" to me.

Posted by rnsrobot in Canada, 25 Nov 2012 16:39

They're in Edmonton, AB - West End TRU had the two big sets. Won't be getting them ($$$), but the packaging is really slick and they look cool.
