OK, not a great series by the looks of it in my opinion. I am very disappointed to see that the Police Officer is in fact a modern cop rather than a good old British Bobby. That Roman Senator however looks marvellous and the Chicken Suit Guy is wonderful too.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 26 Nov 2012 13:45

Very excited! There seems to be 3 new printed dresses, 5 new hair moulds, 3 new headgears and a few recolours. I'd have been happy with a fair maiden, but a Forest Woman or maybe even Female Elf is great too. Marilyn's hair looks amazing, and the Fortune Teller looks exactly like I hoped.

Only disappointments so far: Not too many backprints... Why is the Waiter's hair in Black again, it's appeared in that colour far too many times. And is the Mermaid's hair the same colour as PotC Elizabeth Swann's? I hope not!

Meh, on both the figures and the social media boo-hay.

Posted by MinifiguresPlus.com in United States, 26 Nov 2012 14:20

Looks good! But really? Another cop? I must also admit one of my greatest frustrations of the last series that seems to have returned here is the use of other theme's exclusively used molds. (e.g. the mermaid - Pirates of the Caribbean)

Posted by Town in United States, 26 Nov 2012 14:21

What's the cop holding? Is the green guy a Cyclops?

Posted by binaryeye in United States, 26 Nov 2012 14:45

I wonder how the mermaid will affect prices of the mermaids from Whitecap Bay. I've got a couple I've been meaning to sell and it looks like I waited a bit too long.

Posted by spokeydokeyjenner-jones in United Kingdom, 26 Nov 2012 15:05

OK.

The ones I can recognise are a gypsy, a traffic warden, a movie star and a knight.

Posted by icey in Sweden, 26 Nov 2012 15:19

@binaryeye I'd be fun to see. Though after Neptune arrived (S7) we all knew it was only a matter of 1-3 series before a mermaid was on her way ;-)

Posted by DOLEGO1986 in United Kingdom, 26 Nov 2012 15:23

I don't think it's a cop I think it's a traffic warden. Is the guy in a top hat an Undertaker? Another great looking series. When will they be in the shops - January 2013?

Posted by noblebrick in Canada, 26 Nov 2012 15:32

So adding it up, in order:

Alien Trooper, Chicken Suit Guy, Downtown Cop, Cyclops
Battle Mech, Fortune Teller, Judge, Heroic Knight
Mermaid, Dr. Splitz, Plumber, Roller Derby Girl
Caesar, Hollywood Starlet, Waiter, Maid Marion

Posted by noblebrick in Canada, 26 Nov 2012 15:35

So the grey armour colouring is off in the Alien Trooper image, but the 'leaks' of the figure would seem accurate. Does anyone know if that battle mech armour has been used before?

^ check out any of the new (big) Galaxy Squad sets... ;)

Need to see the front of the figures soon to make my judgement. Definably getting a Chicken suit guy no matter what. Make a fast food restaurant MOC with him :D

Posted by RikTheVeggie in Canada, 26 Nov 2012 18:11

"tea" = "dinner" for non Brits! (it confused my SO) Actually I always thought it was a northern thing, didn't hear it said down south.

Back on topic, these look pretty good. I think "Maid Marion" looks more like the girl from "Brave" though, and I agree the cop looks more like a traffic warden (tho' they're technically both divisions of the Toronto Police over here). Actually thought the Roman guy was a baker - took me a while to see the wreath! Love the plumber shot :)

Posted by The_Creator in United States, 26 Nov 2012 19:27

Can't wait to see the fronts of them :D

Posted by blue_squadron in United Kingdom, 26 Nov 2012 20:06

There are a few that look to be fairly interesting. I definitely need to get Caesar to go with my little collection of Roman Legionaries; Maid Marion to go with the original Forest Man too (I'm just surprised it's taken this long to add another character to that particular branch of the series). Clearly, I'll also have to get some Heroic Knights to face off against my Evil Knights and a Cyclops to go with my Minotaur and Spartans!

Looking at the Downtown Cop photo, I thnk I can detect a new cap on this minifig: look carefully and you can see this is *not* the standard cap that has been around since the minifigs were first introduced waaaaaaaay back when. This cap can be seen to have a different shape and appears to have a number of angled corners on its crown — which makes me think this guy is going to be a proper "Downtown" Cop in the New York sense. He may not directly be an NYPD figure, but I suspect he'll look something a lot like that.

The Holywood Starlet (yeah, OK, Minifig Marylin!) and the Judge with the traditional British full wig also look to be pretty interesting too

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 27 Nov 2012 02:57

Saw the less-heavily-edited Instagram picture of the Mermaid, and she seems to have Blonde Elizabeth Swann hair! Even more excited for that fig now.

Plumber looks extremely boring for the back, as does the Roller Derby Girl. Lets hope the fronts are a lot more interesting.

Do you think the Waiter's tray is a silver shield held up the way, or a new piece? I'll get him anyway for the green bottle.

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 27 Nov 2012 05:26

The back of the minifigs is always the least spectacular part (what with the missing trousers etc.), but these look pretty good nevertheless. Better than series 8 anyway.

So far, the highlights appear to be chicken suit guy, battle mech, cyclops and Caesar.

I only hope that the heroic knight has some type of new visor. They have so many different helmet molds to choose from the different incarnations of the castle theme. They don't need to make the heroic knight as generic as the pirate captain from series 8, where they had so much cool headgear and beards to choose from the POTC theme alone, and they went with the most standard outfit, minus the epaulettes.

Other than that, this looks like a great series.

Very excited about the Cyclops (if it is a cyclops). My Haunted House is becoming well populated now.

Posted by Ben J in Germany, 27 Nov 2012 05:48

The horn on the cyclops makes me think that this was the inspiration for the character: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3IZJUqSlqB4/T9dHEYbm6SI/AAAAAAAAAy8/Dz0s-l0_o90/s1600/cyclops.jpeg

Posted by Savage_Steel in United Kingdom, 27 Nov 2012 06:27

I'd be surprised it the skater is a roller derby girl - I suspect it's just a skater, as derby player ALWAYS have a number on their back (and often a cool name too, there's a lot of LEGO puns that could have been used for her derby name) They also have numbers on their arms, though I'm glad they've left that off. the elbow pads look good though!

blue_squadron, you're 100% right, as a native New Yorker that hat is unmistakable as the classic NYPD-style pointed cover. I played with my grandfather as a kid and most police departments around here use them. Love it... I see myself getting a LOT of those figures if the front has a good print. Maybe a few years down the line I can get a legit looking paramedic =-)

Posted by OscarWRG in Venezuela, 27 Nov 2012 07:14

The pictures on iOS App instagram @LEGO have a different look

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 27 Nov 2012 07:21

Plumber = sink plunger. Oh yes please. Other than that, another series of fun figs, useful recolours and accessories. I agree with blue_squadron and murphquake about the new cop hat - thought it had that angled look from the first time I saw the photo - which will make a lot of people change their mind about 'another' cop fig. Mech and alien trooper look fun for sci-fi builders, I like the look of the fortune teller's hair and judge's wig and the chicken suit is a must have for comedy and the alternative legends of Chima factions i'd like to see - chickens, gorillas, etc....

Posted by the_real_indy in United States, 27 Nov 2012 10:40

Wha...? So no purple cape for Caesar? They are going cheap on us with that! And giving him an exposed behind?!

N.B., Pliny the Elder sez: "[for the Toga Picta,] the tint that inclines toward red is looked upon as inferior to that which is of a blackish hue. (often shown as a deep plum-indigo hue, and often compared to the color of dark clotted blood!)

So I'll be ordering a dark-purple cape like Magneto's, together with the dark-red armored legs from the CMF Samurai.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 27 Nov 2012 13:32

^I agree, Caesar looks terrible from the back all due to those legs. However, the Series 8 Alien Villainess came with a Dark Purple cape, which matches what you're looking for and is easily acquired. It's long enough to cover up the back of the legs and the plain back of the torso, so you wouldn't even need to replace the legs.

Posted by blue_squadron in United Kingdom, 27 Nov 2012 17:47

That's a really good point; I wasn't that interested in picking up the Alien Villainess but as a ready source for a purple cape that's not a bad idea at all! I strongly suspect that we're not seeing the whole thing however; I think a cape is quite likely with Caesar but if they'd left one on the figures in the photos it would have hidden pretty much everything and rendered the photo pretty pointless!

@murphquake: yeah, some proper paramedics would be cool but unfortunately firefighters *always* seem to take precedence over EMS and I suspect you'll see FDNY firefighters in bunker gear with trad helmets long before you see paramedics and EMTs. I also think that Lego will be dubious about making them in all-dark blue, where identifying their service and role would be dependent entirely upon what would be *tiny* patches on the front print (assuming they're unlikely to print them on the arms). The cop will be cool though...

Looking forward to this series.

Posted by murphquake in United States, 27 Nov 2012 18:26

blue_squadron, of course... but I see enough of FDNY and NYPD every day... and I have all those other *tiny* patches in a closet full of dark blue, but in people size =-) I have been plotting a NYC Paramedic patch mosaic for a while... started it one day for fun at the Lego store and have been hoarding white orange and blue brick since

Murph, I don't want to hijack this thread so PM me dude, we have stuff to discuss!

I am looking forward to this series. The chicken guy will be a classic for sure.

Posted by MrSeatle in United States, 28 Nov 2012 04:14

I wonder if the Alien Trooper is an actual alien, or does he fight aliens? And why is the Roman Senator/Caesar facing a bunch of jelly beans? He looks like Barney Rubble... :)

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 28 Nov 2012 07:47

^I think they're grapes, rather than jelly beans... :P

Is Dr. Splitz a "Dr jekyll and Mr hyde" minifigure?
