    Perhaps the only thing more joyous than receiving LEGO during the holidays is gifting it!
     
    With that in mind, we've compiled the Brickset Holiday Gift Guide, highlighting our picks for the best offerings from LEGO to help repair your reputation from the ugly sweater you gave last year.
     
    We've chosen various price points to suit your gift giving needs, from stocking stuffers to sets so large you'll run out of wrapping paper! Within each price segment, we'll identify two sets: one appropriate for children, and one appropriate for children-at-heart.
     

    "Stocking Stuffers": $10 and under

     
     
    If you're operating under the misguided notion that a small set can't be big on fun, Emma's Fashion Design Studio will set the record straight.
     
    Though it has just 79 pieces, the majority are in rarer pastel colors and the unique elements such as the laptop, camera, and printed tiles are going to be standouts in a child's burgeoning collection.

    I didn't quite know what to make of the Star Wars Planet Sets when they were first unveiled; the planets seemed gimmicky and yet another redirection of cost towards non bricks that I could do without.
     
    But if ever there was a LEGO set that could pull double duty as an awesome tree ornament, it would be this Death Star "planet"!
     
    Nearly as iconic as the Death Star is the TIE interceptor, and the included mini-model is well-executed and dare I say "cute".
     
    Completing the triumvirate is a sinister looking TIE Fighter pilot, who again, is every bit as adorable as the vehicle he commands.
     
    What better gift can you give a Star Wars fan than an instant rebel-scum-ridding kit for them to make swooshing noises through the froth of their hot cocoa on a glorious Christmas Day?

Nice idea for a guide, defo agree on the friends set, not sure my wife would like a death star on the tree though!
Another suggestion, if you can still get it as low as the RRP, is Captain's Cabin - a great little set.
My #1 recommendation from the currently available stuff in this price range would be Gandalf arrives
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=9469-1 .. a nice design that's genuinely useful in larger models, the new-style horse, as well as 2 central minifigs, including Gandalf, who's one of the best LOTR figs around. Even the accessories are neat, with a red ninjago snake, a spell book and a carrot.

Great feature, I too would tip Gandalf Arrives as a great set for under £10, especially with all of those accessories. I think my pick for kids would be the Green Ninja (Lloyd ZX) spinner pack if you can find it!

Wouldn't Gandalf arrives rrp put it out of this category? And is £10/11 what qualifies as a stocking 'stuffer' these days? Seems a lot of money to me! (Whatever happened to satsumas, chocolate coins, and a Beano?).

Besides of the lame non-minifigure, the friends set is much better for both adults and children than yet another uninspired mini SW ship with another SW figure. Whilst licensed sets remain childish, behold at the variety of cool accessories that come with Emma's studio

Basically any poly bag is a good stocking stuffer. Plus you can stuff them into any planet sets you may already own and hang them up on the tree as an alternative to the traditional stocking stuffer. Almost like an Easter egg hunt

Great comments, everyone! Yes, Gandalf Arrives was just above the $10 USD cut off, although I still don't think I would have chosen it because I think the SW set has slightly broader appeal and is more accessible to the casual fan. Lloyd Zx also is disqualified because it's sold out virtually everywhere, which doesn't make it a particularly useful recommendation :P

The only Lego sets I've ever gotten in a stocking are some CMFs or the $3 impulse sets they used to make.

I think the polybags are a good call as stocking stuffers (especially if you got them in a newspaper promo...).
