    Advent day 2Today's City window is a bit light on parts -- just eight of them, and small ones at that -- but the finished model of a chainsaw is pretty good, and a neat accessory for yesterday's fireman.

    Quite why he's chopping logs though, I'm not sure. Perhaps he's making toilet rolls :-)

    Advent day 2Olivia gets a cool sledge to play on today which comes with one of those 1x2 modified tiles that LEGO calls a 'Foot, Plate'.

    Their sole purpose is to solve the problem of the mini-dolls not having holes in their backsides to secure them when seated (stop giggling at the back...). The piece wedges between their feet and keeps the doll seated.

    Advent day 2In the Star Wars calendar we have our first minifig: a Gungan soldier. Luckily it's a generic one and not our friend Jar Jar. It's the same as that which appeared in 7929 from 2011.

    So handy for army builders wanting to recreate the Battle of Naboo.

    Marks out of 10 for today's offering:

    City -- 5, nice model but light on pieces.
    Friends -- 7, nice parts, just right for Olivia to sit on.
    Star Wars -- 6, a decent minifig, one you can probably never have too many of.

I would have to agree on the Star Wars and City ones (can't really comment on the Friends one since I don't have it), a nice figure to have from the Star Wars one, and some good accessories for the fireman from yesterday. But also, eight parts is just too few, at least give us another log!

Speaking of the Friends Advent Calendar, did we ever find out how it got reinstated when it was originally not going to be released?

Keep up the scores out of ten too, gives a nice overview I think.

I think the consensus was that it was withdrawn from some types of retailers in some countries. Here in the UK it's been available just about everywhere, hasn't it, from Tesco to Waterstones.

I like the stats scores. If you keep them going then at the end there could be total stats on which you thought was the best based on day by day entries... (That could just me be being rather sad though...stats and numbers are fun.)

I'm kinda regretting not picking up an advent calendar this year now.

@Keladeekadys have they all sold out in your country then? I'm kind of wishing I had enough to pay the CND retailers for the Advent Calendars still languishing around here, most places don't have too many City ones, however they are still available at Wal-Mart and certain book retail stores.

Just not in my budget sadly, which is a real shame as the contents of both look quite impressive to add to my tiny Christmas Display of LEGO. The Friends one... Yeah I want it, good luck on ever finding it due to whatever odd excuse TLG concocted for their displeasure with the item in question.

@Odeinoichus, It's more that I had too much month left at the end of my money to justify one...Still pay day has happened so I will keep an eye out in the shops tomorrow.

@Huw, I've started a spreadsheet to record results already :) Seems that Friends is leading the way in consistency as of Day 2.

But then again, maybe he's not a fireman at all! Maybe he's an illegal logger chopping down trees in the forest to be sent to be made into the paper for loo rolls! :O How could Lego make something so unethical?!
Or is my imagination running away with me...?

It's worth pointing out that the Gungan can ride (well, sit on) the Gungan Sub from yesterday. Of course, the scale is ludicrously off, but that just adds to the humor value IMO.

My children got the City calendar from their cousin - it's our first experience of one. It has been a hit. We're onto day 3 now so it'll be interesting to read the reviews.

Firemen routinely are involved in cutting of wood for forest fire control and prevention. Seeing they've had fire/police sets related to the forest lately it makes sense that this would be part of the calendar.

My daughter is loving the Friends calendar so far. She's even added some of the winter themed CMFs to complement the calendars scenery ie. the hockey player, figure skater, snow boarder, Santa etc.

I'm kind of considering buying one of these calendars on clearance after Christmas, and leaving it in the closet until Christmas 2013. I don't want to turn off the advent countdown on this site though. I wonder if I'll forget it in a year.

Initially I liked the original 2-piece chainsaw, which appeared in the ICE Planet sets. However, this new chainsaw is constructed from more pieces and fits much better to the minifig. Good stuff.

If your having a go at the city one for having only eight pieces the Star Wars one has only four pieces.
