Advent day 8

Advent day 8There's a nice lot of parts in the City calendar window today. Okay, so it's just another section of wall, but once again it's all useful pieces, including yellow skis.

I'm not sure why it has a 'roof' and flashing lights on the top though...

Advent day 8This 9-piece table and chair in the Friends calendar is also quite decent. The parts are certainly more useful to most than yesterday's assortment of brushes and bows.

Advent day 8However the best of the day's models is definitely this Droid Fighter in the Star Wars calendar. It's very cleverly executed and can flip from walking mode to flying mode with ease.

City -- 7, model a bit boring but useful parts.
    Friends -- 7, ditto.
    Star Wars -- 9, a very clever mini-model.

I absolutely love the Vulture Droid in the Star Wars calendar, incredible at this scale! It goes very nicely with the Naboo Starfighter from yesterday as well so has a great deal of playability.

Cool

I really like the Vulture Droid. It's perfect for dogfights with the Naboo Fighter.

Also, I think the wall thingy has the roof so it can connect to the other wall.

I hope the star wars advent calendar keeps giving us some nice mini-models. The last two days have been great and my only complaint is that the security battle droid doesn't have a blaster. Luckily I have a dozen extra blasted for this occasion

Further down in the calender is another wall which connects to the other walls...

I think the mini-wall sections in the City calendar are great. They're not overboard like last year but make a nice tool rack whenever you put them together. Simply perfect. I'm glad I just bought two copies of it.

I really hate that LEGO didn't include the proper ski poles with the City calendar. They've been pulling the same crap with the Winter Village sets too even though they have real ski pole accessories. Even worse is the fact that they did include the ski poles in the Friends advent calendar, but couldn't be bothered to do the same for the City one.. Grumble grumble.

So far I think that Star Wars has been the most consistent, with Friends and City dependent on the day you open the set.
Star Wars FTW :P

The flashing lights are for when it starts skiing like the fridge from Wallace and Gromit. Walls can shift.

^I bet you could build a pretty good skiing fridge with the parts from the City advent calendar so far...

@Huw- "I'm not sure why it has a 'roof' and flashing lights on the top though..." It's like a small little 'outpost' in the middle of nowhere whereupon receiving a distress signal, flashes its lights to tell any fireman in the area to 'get this equipment on and go!'

Well... I'm surprised that you didn't give the Friends calender set a 9... for 9 pieces!!

That Droid Starfighter does seem cleverly designed, though.

I find it interesting how you said the MTT model had too few parts and wasn't a good mini model, even though the vulture droid has the same amount of parts.

Why we didn't get the proper sticks for the skiing? In the Friends calendar there were skis + sticks. In the city we got only the yellow bar piece instead. Why? It doesn't look so good in my opinion.

The roof is to connect to the other wall sections. The roof can attach to the studs on top of the other section.

I think the "head" of the vulture droid is supposed to be offset a half-stud distance forward, at least that's how they show it in the version they have flying on the front of the box.

@legoboy76: Thanks mate! Good observation - I have to admit I didn't realize it myself. now I like this calendar even more!
