    Here's a chance for you to get involved with a forthcoming DK book on minifigs.

    Calling all LEGO fans with large collections of minifigures!

    Dorling Kindersley, publisher of many bestselling LEGO books, including The LEGO Book and LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, is seeking collectors with substantial collections of minifigures. 

    We are looking for collectors who would be willing to lend their minifigures to be photographed for an exciting new book created in collaboration with LEGO.

    The photo shoots will be at the end of January and February in London. All minifigures will be treated with the greatest care and all expenses will be paid. Each collector's name will feature in the credits of the exciting new book.

    We are seeking minifigures from sets released in 1978-2000 from the following themes: Town/City, Castle (including Ninja), Space, Sports, Pirates, Train, Aquazone, Freestyle, Time Cruisers, Western, Adventurers, Rock Raiders, Studios, and 1999 and 2000 Star Wars minifigures. We are also looking for any LEGO Brand Store exclusive minifigures.

    We are also seeking non-minifigures from sets released in 1978-2000 from the following themes: Duplo, Fabuland, Technic, Basic, Belville, Primo, Scala and Mickey Mouse. 

    If you can help, please contact Helen Murray at helen.murray@uk.dk.com and Lisa Sodeau at lisa.sodeau@uk.dk.com. Please let us know roughly how many minifigures you have within the different themes and sub-themes and then we can take it from there.  Thank you for your help!

Too bad I have just about every Star Wars minifig from 2001-2009. Can't wait for a new book though!

I used to have Blacktron minifigs, that got sold. I used to have pirate minifigs, that got sold. I used to have star wars minifigs, that got sold. I will never sell my Lego again.

Looks like DK is combing the ideas of Christoph Bartneck's minifig books and Huw Minifig gallery to provide standardized images of all minifigs ever released between 1978-2000.

I enjoyed Christoph's first book and the idea of releasing a small book every year with all the new minifigs. I was also waiting for Huw to tackle the Castle and Star Wars galleries.

I wouldn't have a problem with sending my figs but most of mine are common figures from the 80s (space).

I just emailed them! This is very exciting. I would fit best in the pirate/western/city categories all in that order. Most of the figures I have are in near mint condition, some more faded, etc than others, but wow, this is really cool!

i have minifigures from Pirates/Imperial Guards, Soldiers/Islanders from almost every set from 1989-1996

I Have about:
90 Pirates, 20 Imperial Guards, 16 Imperial Soldiers, 14 Islanders.
I don't know if its much?

I got about 20-30 more but they are little damaged.

I have 15-20 2008 castle minifigs I doubt that they could be of use :) but those are my oldest figs I think

I've got about 1300 minifigs from the late '70's till now. I'm just not sure if I want them shipped to Londen for a photograph.

I have pretty much every variant of pirate figure up to 2000 (apart from the Armada ones), but am guessing they will be someone a lot closer to London with a bigger/more complete collection. Otherwise it sounds like a logisitical nightmare!

I have plenty of figs I could lend (one from each theme mentioned) but I don't know if I would lend them or not because I have about 800 spare heads, 800 spare torsos, 800 spare legs, 800 spare accessories and these are all in separate bags and would need to be assembled, imagine if all of them figs went missing in the mail :(

Hi all,

I'm working with DK on this project. Anyone with concerns over their minifigs with regard to postage/loss/etc, I would urge you to speak to one of the nice and helpful ladies mentioned above. I'm sure they will be happy to discuss options/alternatives and cover over any concerns.

Since I'm always good at spending other people's money, I have a suggestion for those that don't want to ship their minifigures. There is always the Hand Carry method. Get an airplane ticket, put the minifigures under your seat, and hand deliver them to the location. When they are done, fly back and pick them up. Depending on how many there are, it's possible to buy another seat and hand carry them all on, leaving them them under both your seat and the other seat you purchased. It is quite common for legal documents and some precision instrumentation to be hand carried. Why not minifigures?

Hm. I don't have a massive collection. However, I do have three quite rare figs from when my Local LEGO Store opened. Would just these three really rare ones merit my contacting them, or is it volume that matters?

^ Volume is important to begin with to try and source a large number of the regular theme minifigs in as few hits as possible. However, rare figs will be required also so there is no harm in shooting them a message!

I have every Star Wars minifig fom 1999-2000 and they are straight out if the box. I just doubt that they would take my figs because lots of people have those ones. If they were looking for 2003 I have all of those great for pictures and some of them are pretty rare. They might take those.

I have the 7 main sets from the original Ninja theme, including the fig pack. I just checked the inventory, I had no idea there is so many impulse sets for that theme.

I have access to tons of late 80's and early 90's figs. They're not all in great condition, some have dirt and that kind of stuff. Plus I'm in the US. If I could help, that would be great but I didn't want to email before I figured out that these would work.

Do you think they accept un-mint condition Jack stone,Xalax and Homemaker? i think i have a few of those. By the way, I was flipping through my Star wars character encyclopedia and i was kind of surprised that one of the picture contributors of it was Huw.

But the only actually sort of rare minifigs I have is an old butler, a possibly MOCd chef, a MOCd Aquasharks Thresher an a Magnet (and Keychain) of a Copenhagen minifigure. But if I look through my cousin's house, I might nail a few Exploriens and an Ann Droid...

Between my bros and I we have: All variations of Imperials and the Spanish, Islanders, all the Western, all of the old Pirate, some mint 80's castle, all of the 90's fantasy castle themes, a ton of 90's Town, some 80's Town, Blacktron II, Space Police II, Ice Planet, Spryius, desert Jonny Thunder, Aquazone, Ninja, ect.
All the figs are good-excellent/mint condition.
Problems: talking my bros into lending there figs out and all of my bros figs are in sets packed away(but accessible).
But since my two brothers have the bulk of the collection mine probably aren't worth sending in and I doubt my bros will send there's so we won't get our names in the book…

I have a growing collection in York and also potential access to some huge collections in the north of England. Also having a studio (http://www.studiohire-york.co.uk) could help get some stuff photographed without it having to travel down to London... I think the collectors would prefer to accompany their collections, so maybe this could be a solution to help:-)
