Advent day 20

As you can probably tell, I'm back from my travels now. I had a great time on a 'Christmas markets cruise' to Gothenburg, Copenhagen and Hamburg. I managed to find, and visit, the LEGO brand stores in the latter two cities. The highlight of the trip however, was Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg which is the most incredible model railway, the largest in the world. To call it a 'model railway' though is doing it a disservice since it's so much more than that. If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it. You'll need a good half day to appreciate it all though, there is so much of it too see. My wife and I spent four hours there: she was fixated by the airport segment in which aircraft taxi, take-off and land. We've now seen enough Christmas markets -- Liseberg, Tivoli Gardens and just about everywhere you looked in Hamburg -- to last a lifetime!

Anyway, onto today's advent calendar windows...

Advent day 20Today's City window contains a wheelbarrow and a shovel for the snow. The wheelbarrow was only introduced this year, so it's useful to get one in the calendar. Not very festive, or 'fire-y', but perhaps tomorrow we'll get a workman to push it.

Advent day 20In the Friends calendar we have a delightful flower arrangement, or is it a section of garden? Maybe the plant would have been better in a pot rather than on some 'grass'.

Advent day 20In the Star Wars window we have another micro-model, General Grievous' Starfighter. It's a pretty good rendition given the scale. I particularly like the way they've managed to get the brown and tan stripes in, like on the larger version.

City -- 8, not too exciting but every city needs more wheelbarrows.
Friends -- 5, could have been better.
    Star Wars -- 8, another great micro-model.

I'd like to thank bluemoose for posting the advent articles in my stead. I hope you enjoyed reading his perspective on the models, I know I did. Any mistakes in the construction of the models (like yesterday's Star Wars one) are entirely mine, I did them all in a hurry before I went :-)

...I think you could've been a tiny bit more generous on the Friends calender... :P It's good for MOC scenes, although it could be a little bigger.

I love the Star Wars offering today, I would give it a ten, only equalled by the Naboo Starfighter for me.

Glad to hear you had a good time on holiday Huw, I did a similar cruise a few years ago with my parents to Warnemunde, Travemunde and Hamburg, didn't see that model railway though. :(

Welcome back! I'd glad you enjoyed Miniatur Wunderland i. I've heard about that place, I plan to go there one day.

It must be a light snow in Heartlake City for the flowers to still be blooming...

The flower's a Christmas poinsettia, surely?

The star wars model didn't impress me when I peeked ahead a few days ago, but upon seeing it built, it's very clever and looks great for the scale. Star Wars has had a few off days (MTT was miserable), but some of the models have been surprisingly good! Some nice figures, too.

My daughter was so disappointed with the Friend's offerings today. The flower and bamboo pieces are all regular occurrences at Lego Store PAB walls and found in lots of sets; and thus, in red, they are easy to come by and nothing special and something easily accumulated in large volumes. A more unusual colour than red would have been nice...perhaps a better pot or something...ANYTHING!!

The wheelbarrow is quite nice though!

My Grievous ship came without the brown (or maybe dark red) 1x1 plates...
