Sun promotion on the way?

  • Sun promotion on the way?

Brickset member Hob spotted this in his copy of The Sun today! As you can see, there are no details at all, but 'beat the winter blues' implies that it'll be happening before May, which has traditionally been the time of the first offer of the year. Maybe February half-term?

As we've seen recently, there are loads of great new polybags lined up for release this year so I think we can be sure that, whenever it is, it's bound to include something of interest!

Huw, the 'Big smile giveaway' TV ads were all about how January is rubbish, so maybe even sooner? Either way, there are some polybags in our future!

The Sun's promo page shows a timeline of the giveaway and the Lego promo is well into the second half of the timeline. It mentions that deals are over the 'coming months' and 'from now until spring'.

^ Still not much to go on, is it :-)

Posted by maniac in United Kingdom, 10 Jan 2013 11:08

^Not a lot, no. :(
I did, however, notice that if you go to the sign up page, it says something about some mysterious bonus token that you will get (only if you sign up, mind) and can be redeemed in February or March time.

Still quite a large time-span though!

I imagine it'll be Easter holidays/half term time, no?

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 10 Jan 2013 11:56

Shouldn't the headline be "SHOCK! SOMEONE ADMITS TO BUYING THE SUN EVEN WHEN THERE'S NO LEGO PROMO". :P

Exciting, let the mayhem commence! And give me my Hobbit polybags.

I have to move to the UK you guys get so many freebies. Perhaps its to offset the high prices but we have them in Canada too.

Yes! I can't wait! That's the reason i love the UK but when im older, i am moving to america :-)

They will almost certainly try to coincide the promotion with a school holiday, so I think February half term (only five weeks away) is the most likely release date.

No! Not half-term!!! We'll away then! Noooo....

The only reason why I'm blue is because Winter is ending...
It should be "Summer Blues," because I dread the coming of summer (mostly the heat)...

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 10 Jan 2013 17:20

^ We rarely suffer from it being 'too hot' here in the UK in Summer!

Posted by arl100 in United Kingdom, 10 Jan 2013 17:30

^ I agree with you CapnRex. It's even worse down here in Devon. Forget 'Welcome to Sunny Devon', try 'Soggy Devon'.
Hardly a day goes by without some form of 'Liquid Sunshine' falling here.

If you're in the US (or elsewhere), you can always try trading with someone in the UK.

I swapped a couple of Hawkeye polies that I got in the last Sun promo for a couple of Elf polies. I'm in the UK. The AFOL I traded with was located in California. We both got what we wanted, so everyone was happy.

Do I just buy the newspapers and they include the Legos in them, or the way to receive the polybags is a little bit complicated, for example there is vouchers in the SUNs and my friend in the UK has to go to the toyshops and ask for the polys?

Thanks!

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2013 10:18

^ You buy the Sun at most branches of WH Smith, a national stationery and periodicals retailer and get the poly at the counter when you pay.

Some branches limit the number of copies and therefore the number of polies you can get to one or two. Other branches have no limit.

Thanks for the help!
And how much? 30p each?

(sorry but I need to inform my non-lego fan friend in the UK properly if I don't want to miss the promo again)

Posted by milkbottlec in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2013 15:47

YEAH! Hope to get some good Lego this time!

Posted by yamaki in Germany, 12 Jan 2013 13:27

I envy you mates on your happy island! It's really weird these polys don't come to mainland Europe.

Posted by Zander in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2013 14:07

Haga,

50p on Saturdays and Sundays, usually the days with the most popular polies. 40p on weekdays, I think. Not entirely sure because I only ever get the Sun for the polies and I believe the price may have changed since the last promotion. I don't read the Sun the rest of the time. It's drivel.

Interesting, I hope it isn't in half term because then I can't get them on the way home from school. I'm running out of room on my shelf...

@Haga (first comment): You can buy the sun nearly anywhere, it has a token in that you take to certain places, normally Toys R Us or WHSmiths and redeme them. You can by the sun in smiths of course tho.
