It's a nice offer, but these things still make me sad everytime. why??? Here in Holland we still have to pay over $ 430 for the same model!!! That's almost double the price in the US.

I think if I want to buy as much lego as I want, it will pay to emigrate... :)

I totally agree with Damien. It’s discussing that we have to pay 70% more. You would forget that Lego is actually an European company. And that while they keep, according to themselves, 'high values'. Indeed: a very high value.

$250 is good value for such a huge set - nearly 6000 pieces !!

Not everyone has the patience for such a set, but it's really a gorgeous model once built.

I think the last time LEGO shops in the U.S. reduced the price of one of these exclusives it was the Eiffel Tower, and it was discontinued shortly after. So if you want this set I'd advise you to buy now or be prepared to miss out. I made the mistake of waiting too long for Eiffel Tower and ended up having to pay a lot more on eBay - you have been warned !

Its good it was cut down by $50 but $250 is still a fair bit to pay. If I had enough money I doubt I would buy it, even with the price lowered! I also agree with DrDaveWatford that it is good value for money but I just don't like sets like this.

This is still way too mych money for this set. It has zero playability and is fragile. If i'm going to shell out 250 bucks it would be for the AT-OT or the Carousel. Not the Taj Mahal.

legopops: yeah, i'd rather get the AT-OT or the carousel then getting this, at least those sets have minifigs.
at first i thought this post set, ''taj mahal reduced to 50$.'' LOL.
if i had 250 dollars, i'd rather save another 150$ and get the death star then get this, although if DRdavewatford is true and this set is on its way out, it may be a good idea to buy it, then when it retires sell it on ebay for 300 or 350.

I have to agree with Dr. D that this set will probably be discontinued soon. In seems that in general when Lego reduces its prices, it's on items it wants to clear from inventory.

A lot of people are commenting that this set is expensive. I definitely agree there is sticker shock. But I think that's partly because the set looks small on the picture. Compare it to the UCS Millennium Falcon. The Faclon is only two inches wider than the Taj. If you take the extreme dimensions of the two sets to calculate volume occupied, the Taj occupies slightly more space. Taj beats the Falcon on piece count. Yet, when you glance at the picture it looks a lot smaller than it really is. On price, the Taj is half the cost of the Falcon and with a price per piece of 4.22 cents is hard to beat.

Great buy. That said, I'm probably not getting it because its not my kind of set! lol.

For us poor guys in New Zealand we still have to pay $599 NZD. Meanwhile $250 USD = $353 NZD so who do you think is getting the bargain. $246 NZD difference in pricing.

I totally agree with Damien and Xiaolong. Why is a European company giving the USA a heads up?! Not only with cheaper prices but also release dates. Do Americans buy more Lego then all Europeans combined?
And even if they do, it still looks a little like discrimination to me. I love Lego, but I just don't understand these things.

LEGO has economies of scale in the United States that are not present in any other nation. Not to mention the United States has a much friendlier business environment compared to most other nations that LEGO is sold in. This and other factors drive down the cost of LEGO in the United States.

I just bought 2 Taj Mahal sets for $250 a piece (One for personal and one probably to gift or resell). I am Indian and have visited this monument so it means a lot to me so please no hateful comments on how I should've purchased a different set. Nowhere on the LEGO site it says the Taj discontinued but when I was checking out, in my cart in big bold red letters after the title of the product, in parenthesis it said (DISCONTINUED) but in availability next to the qty it said Still Available, Limit 10 per cus. And WarriorAB is exactly right about why USA has some preference to LEGO company.

You're all complaining that in Europe it's way more expensive. But we here in Russia even cam't see it on the shelves. We only can order it at Bricklink / eBay or through traders. The average cost for us is somewhere USD 700. So, in Europe you're still very fortunate.

As for the set, it's great, a real masterpiece. If I could, I'd definitely purchased it. Along with the Merry-go-round. The death star is no match, something dull and unrealistic...

Why would a $300 set be marked up to $700? That's $400 more than MSRP! Is it really that expensive to ship to Russia?

Yes but not only.
If you order smth from abroad now which exceeds 10 000 rubles (or approximately 300 $) you have to pay import duty.
And don't forget that $ 300 is an American price, not a European. So, shipping is very costly + shipping within Russia.
So, in total it reaches 600 - 700 USD.

Yeah, its the American price. With the sale its $250, so you should be able to just squeak by with not paying the tariff. It you don't care about the box, the contents should fit in a USPS Priority Mail International Large Flat Rate Box. With $250 in insurance it's $61.35 for shipping. So I still don't understand what drives the price beyond like $400.

I'm sure it's expensive. I just feel bad when it's ridiculously expensive and would hope there would be a way for people to get their Lego at a reasonable cost.
