Though far from the most popular subject, Cuusoo has a fair number of projects dedicated to the concept of being art by recreating art. The most famous of these, in LEGO circles at least, is probably the small YELLOW project.
One of my favorite Cuusoo art projects though is the overlooked LEGO Mondrian, which uses the LEGO medium to expand the subject instead of just recreating it.
To be totally honest, I do
n't know that much about Mondrian so I am not going to try to pretend that I do. Here is a link if you want to know more about him.Even though I don't know him, I am familiar with his very distinct work which is reminiscent of the image on the left.
What NonoLeRobot has done here is create a LEGO structure that is a Mondrian themed image in a top down perspective, and a Frank Lloyd Wright style structure from another.
Is this brief article going to start a swarm of supporters to flood LEGO Mondrian. I seriously doubt it. But this project is not only amazingly original, but it literally heightens the medium of LEGO artistically and it deserves recognition if not, production. Now, who is going to do a landscape that looks like the Mona Lisa from above?
My favorite new project this week was, of course, the Adventures of Steamrod. Other honorable mentions include the Pirahna Gunship, Metroid, and Sepsymp's Arena Beasts. My review of these projects and a showcase of all the projects that came out in the last week can be found here.
