Dominic emailed us earlier with news that the VIP programme has now been extended in the US & now covers both phoned-in & online orders through Lego Shop. Great news for everyone that buys Lego direct from ... er ... Lego ;-)

I believe this was already true for UK & German customers, as of a week or two ago.

For those that don't know, VIP is the Lego company's loyalty card scheme. You can earn points for every every pound/dollar/euro/etc. you spend directly with Lego & these points can be exchanged for discounts on future purchases. The points scheme effectively equates to a ~5% discount on your purchases. Which is nice.

I might have to do that, except the local kroger has insane price cuts on legos. I've seen a $50 USD set for about $12 USD

Aww, to bad I didn't know about this before I pre-ordered LU, I could of gotten it then . . .

This sounds like a good deal. I might do this, depending on how much the program costs. How is it purchased?

This is excellent. You all can expect a major increase in traffic from me thru your ad now that I can get points from .com instead of just the brand store.

kazooie_pack - your Kroger carries legos? How cool! What part of the country are you in?

Posted by cjg in United States, 19 May 2010 20:00

kazooie_pack: Yes, what part of the country are you in? Also, which Kroger store is it?

@Huw, thanks for posting my bit of news. :)

@Jayko543, if you call LEGO S@H, they will likely be easy to work with and may retroactively give you credit for your recent order. Worst case scenario, you can cancel your order without penalty (since it didn't yet ship) and re-order to claim VIP points. ;)

@Zacherano, the VIP program is free to join, either through S@H or at a LEGO store.

@earl9371 & cjg: I'm in Ohio, and i believe that it's not a regular krogers, but more of an enhanced one, sort of like the Waltmart: Supercenters. And yes, it is quite cool : ). It usually has the entire shelf filled up and almost everything is almost always on clarence since i would assume that like both of you, most people would not think to go there for LEGO's. And I rememeber seeing Vezon & Fenrak there a good few months after lego s@h stopped selling, and even a few months after walmart stopped selling, so if you can find a kroger that sells legos, make sure you remember where it is becuase it's like a Khols that sells legos, except the prices aren't racked up before the discount

--Hope this helped

@Dominic Gruetzmacher - Thanks! I was wondering why it was not a listed S@H product.

not in canada yet?

I didn't know VIP program just now hit the states, I have had my VIP membership for over a year now already.

Posted by gruetzmacherd in United States, 20 May 2010 08:31

@Dmchylde: Before yesterday, you could only use your VIP card in LEGO brand stores. Now you can use it for on-line and phone orders too, which is great for us that don't live near a LEGO store!

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 20 May 2010 12:34

Indeed.

The VIP programme was only launched late last year (not 'over a year' ago) & only covered in-store sales up until very recently. Note I said 'extended IN the US & now covers both phoned-in & online orders'. Sheesh ;-)

It's bad enough when we get called out on the mistakes we've actually made, but, seriously, please read the posts properly before taking a pop at us :-)

So how does it work? Is there like an extra field now for entering your member number or something?

Posted by collectormom in United States, 20 May 2010 18:09

@ Okay: as long as you're logged into your VIP user name and password your VIP info will show up. If you add an item to your cart it'll tell you how many points you'll earn with that item and how much in rewards have. Also, when you check out it'll ask you if you want to use any of the rewards you've earned, how much of it if you do want to use it, or if you just want to keep accumulating points.

My username and password are the same for the VIP program and S@H so not sure how it works if they're different. I'd say you need to make them the same to keep it easier
