Yay Harry Potter sets. Although what with CMs I'm a bit short of pocket right now but my Birthday's on the 25th and Harry Potter and Last years city are top of my list!!! But why now though at 10 pm UK time??? And have you noticed it's still the Order of the Phoenix icon on the themes page from 2007? I thought they'd have a new one. These are ridiculously priced though. I mean 9.99 GBP for Freeing Dobby, They're having a laugh, the only special part is the elf head.

Ha ha , you said it, that over 13p per peice, and most are only small pieces, the Quidditch is even worse, OK 5 mini figs but only about 120 pieces and most of them are tiny.

At the risk of sounding a little obtrusive, I think anybody pre-ordering these sets is making a poor call. These will be absolutely all over in the run up to xmas, and I am pretty confident that there will be some deal to be had at Toys r us or the like, with the added bonus you can hand choose a nice crisp box and avoid mail posting. The only possible consideration for ordering direct would be the VIP points, but again it might be best waiting, as I think there may be some double points offerings coming in October.

@goldfish I'm not pre-ordering but even if I was buying them myself I would go to a shop. No magnets or keyrings online yet. (See Legoland Post)

I'm with Goldfish - I predict that these sets will be massively discounted by Amazon and probably others within a couple of months of launch, so if you can bear to wait you'll probably save yourself a fortune.

Strange that it's possible to preorder these Harry Potter sets but not any of the other upcoming sets such as Tower Bridge.

I was bitten last Christmas with the Battle of Endoor sets selling out. Not this time - I've bought all Harry Potter sets today (and got to choose the boxes) from Legoland Windsor. They are amazing and I must admit - not over priced. Got 10% off too for being an annual pass holder!
PS - they also had both calendars and last years Xmas Toy shop set in stock.

OMG - just clicked on the link and the price comparison to what we pay in the UK is unbelieveable!

Hagrids Hut = US $39.99. UK £39.99. Exchange rate = £25.59 in the US
Hogwarts Express = US$79.99. UK £79.99. Exchange rate = £51.20 in the US
Hogwarts Castle = US$129.99. UK £99.99. Exchange rate = £83.18 in the US
The Burrow = US$59.99. UK £59.99. Exchange rate = £38.39 in the US
Quidditch Match = US$19.99. UK £19.99. Exchange rate = £12.79 in the US

MASSIVE savings to be had if you buy in the US (and Europe too - change the country on the lego website).
WHY IS IT THAT THE UK GET RIPPED OFF BY LEGO!?
ANYONE - PLEASE EXPLAIN AS I'M ABOUT TO STOP BECOMING AN AFOL AT THESE OVER PRICED ITEMS IN PRINCIPLE!

Make sure you buy them before January otherwise they'll be even more expensive once VAT goes up :-)

@LegoCoastGuard - The lego site (and Amazon) don't ship to the UK. I tried in the past when I found out the new lego slave 1 was £79.99 and also US $79.99!
LEGO RIP OFF THE UK - And I don't know why!?!?!?!?

Everything is a rip off in the UK, Lego is just following the crowd.

Don't forget though, that US prices exclude sales tax. It's not hugely easy to avoid sales tax on Lego in the USA as most of the online retailers also have physical stores, which means they have to charge sales tax even on web sales. Amazon is the exception here. So, unless you live in Delaware you're typically looking to add up to 10% onto the US prices.

Lego stores sell at the MSRP, but most other physical stores here sell ABOVE the RRP, which is very rare in the UK.

Still, even with that, you're getting totally screwed.

Plus, I've found since moving from UK to USA that coupons are the norm here, so I rarely pay retail. I just paid $18 in Borders a few minutes ago for Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter. About 11 quid compared to the 25 quid you guys have to pay.

Luckily I'm going to the US this December, which means I'll be able to buy all the HP sets chaper...prices in the UK are outrageous! And as if that isnt enough...shops such as "The Entertainer" have all the sets priced at least £5 more!

Its the same old story, if people are willing to pay these hyped up prices, then Lego will keep charging them. Unless I can get the HP sets at a greatly reduced price, I will stay clear. Sorry Lego!
