    Depite fears after seeing TV ads yesterday, the Argos offer is for ALL toys regardless of price. They don't have much in stock for home delivery but there does seem to be plenty of stock in the shops. At least, I've managed to reserve 3 Slave 1s, 3 cargo trains and 3 passenger trains :-)

    Here's a direct link to the LEGO selection, sorted by price descending. Reserve online, pick up later. The offer runs until next Tuesday so if your branch doesn't have the stock you should still be able to get it sent there for the weekend.

Aargh, the Prince Of Persia sets have disappeared. Hopefully they will reappear (at their clearance prices) once this offer has finished.

your right, it is all toys, not sure what all the confusion is about. I have gone for 2 Slave 1s and 1 Clone Turbo Tank. £180. Average price per set down to £60. Yes!, I have brought Star Wars Lego prices in to the land of the living.
Considering getting a few Cad Bane Speeders as well.

Just back from Argos. Those of you who have reserved the high price items can relax as you shouldn't have a problem getting your sets. I reserved a whole bunch of sets on Tuesday including the Clone Turbo Tank and the Airport, and I got 3-for-2 on all of them. I could barely carry the bags out of the store !

Bravo Argos - this is a top deal.

Look carefully at your receipt and see they've calculated the discount correctly. I bought a bunch of S2 Minifigs (at 1.99) and somewhat fewer SW Battle Packs (at 9.99). In my mind, they were two distinct transactions - I'd be getting the figs at 1.33 each and the SW packs at 6.66 after the discount was applied. In the cash till's mind, it was a case of full price for all the Batle Packs, and we'll throw in a few Minifigs for free. Net result - a significantly smaller discount than expected.

I spotted it quickly, and the man behind the till saw my point and refunded the difference straight away.
But it would have been easier to do it as 2 separate transactions - all the 1.99 stuff, then the 9.99 stuff.

@richselby, yes... a few shops calculate it like that. I intend to buy my stuff in separate transactions to avoid any problems. Apparently Boots calculate it correctly, though.

@Doctor Leg O'Brick: That was my thinking too, S2 minifigs in the 3 for 2 deal was a bargain, and I got very lucky with the mix, i've actually ended up with more than one full set. So if you do miss out on these (or anybody else for that matter), i'd be happy to swap the extra set with someone who has missed out - (i'm only recently out of my darkage and missed a lot of good star wars stuff). If not, i'll just be returning them to the store for someone else to enjoy. :o)

All turned out well for me. Six new Star Wars lego sets for the price of 4. Overall saving of £110. Really pleased. Combined with discounted AT-ATs at Toys R Us and a discount at the Lego shop on some Cad Bane Speeders, it means I have managed to get away with not paying full price for any of the new season Star Wars lego. Something you need to try to do given the inflation busting price increases!

2 Tantive iV (Yeah £129 is too much, but when combined with some top price £100 other items it brings it below the £95 price mark, and the other items are dirt cheap) Also considering this is somethign that can;t easily be bought anymore it'll be £130 on eBay already sooo a last chance to buy type thing)

Surprised you went for the Tantive IV, though i can see your reasoning... but at £130 (£30 above rrp?), i fully expect/hope Argos end up with a massive overstock on this item (and with luck on Slave 1 too) and will eventually get desperate to shift them. So I'm holding off for the clearance half price sale, probably just after christmas, to make space for new stock. Plus, with Tesco and Amazon getting more and more into Lego, there's going to be an unusually (for the UK) healthy competition between several big stores, resulting in even more potential for overstock across stores. So I'm not biting on the big stuff yet, as the next round of stock clearance sales could be a huge bumper saving for Lego fans.

Even on 3 for 2 really begrudge the price of the Cad Bane Speeder (£50 for 318 pieces - WTF?). Having said that the minfigures in this set are cool, but doesn't justify the price (I know it's £45 on lego shop but time you factor in shipping theres no difference)

So buying 3 of these would bring them down to £33 each, still too much IMO. This should be more around the £25 mark.

So, like Legomatt, think i'll bide my time and see if they get stuck with lots of overpriced sets that they then have to clear - did this a few years ago with the UCS AT-AT, bagged it from Argos for £24.50 (was £60).

It probably also doesn't help that i've just got myself a 10019 blockade runner (the UCS set i've always wanted), so money is not exactly free flowing at the mo! Four more Star Wars UCS sets to go!

I can understand tlmartin going for Tantive IV. If you were to get that and say 2 clone turbo tanks, your getting each set for £76.33p. Yes the starting price is expensive, but the Tantive model feels like its on the wind down from distribution, and a sealed one could easily be £175 on ebay in a few months.
Whilst I think there will be other sales in the run up to Christmas given the economy, I think legomatt is taking a risk. Healthy competition is good, but if you were to go for the Argos deal and buy 3 Slave Ones for £160 (assuming you want 3), then that's £53.33 each. Can I see Slave One going below that in any other sale. I really don't think so. Just my view. I think some individual sets might get heavily discounted, but your taking the chance that it might be the set you don't want. I am assuming that the big recent increases in price of Star Wars lego are in part due to the extension of the licence, which might have cost Lego a lot more this time given the obvious popularity, hence the increases in price. Perhaps there's also some attempt to increase profits year on year, they are a business after all.
The tricky thing both if you need or want to sell in the future, and also from a collector perspective if you might want to buy in the future, is trying to guess what sets are likely to jump in value. This is notoriously difficult. Taking Star Wars lego again as an example, there are certain very old sets that you can still pick up sealed for similar to the original retail price, i.e. Tuskan Raider encounter, Cloud Car , V Wing etc. On the other hand there are some sets that are several hundred percent over their original price, think Droid Encounter, Cloud City.
To sum up, I think the Tantive purchase will turn out to be a good one on reflection.

Yes, i agree on all those points above. But just to clarify my position: I'm one of those increasingly few (it seems) people that doesn't sell lego. So I speak from that perspective as a consumer, rather than part time retailer. As I only buy for myself (sometimes for my nephews), I don't want multiple copies of sets, so for me getting a discount across 3 sets is only worth it if i want all three sets to keep. All that work spent buying to sell means the discounts on sets don't actually exist until the extra sets have all sold - but then are you into lego or making money? Even if it's making money to buy more lego, I just want the lego without the hassle of being a business to fund it. But i must admit that i did almost buy 3 slave-1's for £160, and thought about trying to sell the other two for £50ish... but as i can't guarantee selling both (meaning i'd only have got my Slave-1 for £50ish) i'd have spent a lot more, so i'm happy to see if they just knock £25 off slave-1 later.

The 3 for 2 offer is also available at Irish stores. Great way to pick up a complete box of series 2 minifigures assuming the store has the stock. The biggest problem with Irish stores is they rarely have multiples of large items in stock.

good points legomatt. I am actually a collector of Star Wars lego. I rarely sell any, and if I do, its only to fund more purchases. I actually got 2 x Slave Ones so I could open one and then put one away for my sealed collection. I agree there are a lot of part time sellers out there though. Be interesting to see if the market ever bursts. I think the fact that lego deletes most sets within 12-18 months means that it keeps the after sales market booming. What could eventually hurt it is rehashing the same sets, think Slave One and the AT-ATs! Surely those particular lines are done now, although would I bet against a UCS Slave One. hmmm..

One thing I am not a big fan of is when sellers seem to specialise in minifigs and relentlessly strip sets of them and then sell off the depleted sets.

Yes!!! I got fifteen packets, 5 free. I lucky because 11 where new! Yes, 11 well beating the odds and the doubles, well, very good doubles and very usefull. My doubles were..... one mexican, one skier, one lifegard and one disco dude. To make it funny, i put the clowns red hair on the the disco dude!!!

Just bought 10 minifigs series 2 [3 of them free] and got a mexican,disco stu,pharoah,weight lifter and explorer which wasn't bad the only big downside being I got 5 traffic cops .
