  • The Great Western LEGO show is just days away...

Posted by Huw, 29 Sep 2010 14:19. Filed under Events (UK).

Don't forget, the largest LEGO show in the UK is on this weekend, in Swindon.

    - Come and see Marvin the Martian (left) and hundreds of other models!
    - Meet me and if you're lucky, bluemoose, Martin and Dr. Sinister!
    - See the newly-unveiled LEGO Exclusive set months before it's available!
    - Spend loads of money at the trade stands (but get there early for the best choice!)

I think that's enough exclamation marks... find out more on the official website.

On the subject of events, a US-style LEGO convention in the UK next year has been announced. AFOLcon, an International Fan Of LEGO convention, is to be held in Manchester 28th April-2nd May 2011. That's 5 days of LEGO fun! See the AFOLcon website for more information and to register.

COPYCATS!!! A town in the US called "Manchester"! Oh well, at least at Swindon, we'll have great fun!

Posted by X117JACK in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 15:05

Yes!!! I live in Manchester and I've been waiting for a convention up north. I doubt I'll be able to make it down to Swindon this year, but I'm dying to go to a Lego convention!

Mind giving a hint on the exclusive set Huw? =P
Anyway, too bad there's nothing near me that does anything like this.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 15:37

@Orange Lemons, I haven't seen it or know what it is, but I do know something's being revealed.

For those that can't make it on the day I'll try and post news of it here as soon as I can, from my trusty iPad

Thank you Huw! I sure can't wait to find out what it is.

Excited!!! What kind of products will be available, will there be Brickarms? Fingers crossed!

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 29 Sep 2010 16:17

@Huw: iPad... Do you also own all the other "i-stuff"? Personally, I don't use them, and have no intention of buying them in the future! BACK ON TOPIC: Looks like we'll get a NEW Exclusive set! What will it be? Star Wars? City? Winter-themed? WHO KNOWS!

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 16:26

@Alemas - the 'AFOLcon' event next year is in Manchester in the UK; Huw said it was a "US-style" event, not that it was *in* the US.

For those in the US, especially those in the Seattle area, this weekend is also the weekend of BrickCon, a "US-style" event, 2 days of closed-audience 'convention' followed by a 2 day public exhibition -

@bluemoose: Whoops. I hate it when I mis-read posts and news!! ARGH!!! So, apologies to the Americans! :)

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 16:43

Will the exclusive be unveiled on the Saturday or the Sunday ?

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 16:47

Martin may be able to make a definitive statement, but if it's like previous years the actual 'unveiling' will be in private, for the exhibitors only, before the show opens to the public on Saturday morning. But the set will be on public display on both Saturday and Sunday at the show. It will probably be unveiled & on show at BrickCon too.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 18:00

Thanks, Bluemoose. I'm hoping to attend on Saturday morning, and it would be a shame to miss it.... Good to hear it'll be on public display both days

@bluemoose/Huw

I got my pre-ordered game of lego universe and the astronaut minifig, so I could send you guys pictures of it to add to the database if you haven't already.

Fingers crossed in hope the exclusive will be a new modular building:D

Posted by Martin in United Kingdom, 29 Sep 2010 22:26

Bluemoose is spot on. The new set will be unveiled to the exhibitors before the show opens on Saturday and will be on display to visitors all weekend.

I'm looking at the Sunday but I have both days free so can't say I'm settled 100%

Regarding the AFOLCon next year, I noticed the first 2 days are for AFOL memebers only. What constitutes an AFOL memeber for this evenet, presumably you have to be a member AFOL organisation? Which ones count in England?

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 30 Sep 2010 06:57

No, you won't need to be a member of a LUG (Lego User Group) to attend the 'private' days of AFOLcon; my understanding is anyone over the age of 16 can attend, but you will have to pay the full conference fee (which is, I believe, £60) to cover attendance over the full 5 days & participation in any of the private events over the long weekend. Access by the general public will be limited to the exhibition only on the public days; I don't know if there is a cost for attending the public side of the event, but if there is I'd expect it to be a very small fraction of the full conference fee. When we find out, we'll let you all know.

I'm just doing final prep before heading off to the show for the setup; see you at the weekend !
