The 2011 Brickset user survey: Responses from Over 18s

Question:
What ONE thing do you think should be done to improve Brickset?

I preffered only one thing from old site- The reviews was always first.

Over 18, Poland

An official review section of new sets, maybe on the homepage.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Not that easy to get to the part list.

Over 18, Slovenia

I find the Right now on eBay.com.au banner annoying..... and prefer it not to be displayed.

Over 18, Australia

The search box is a little forceful with its own suggestions.

Over 18, United States

Searching - after a term is typed in, pressing enter does nothing. The search button must be clicked to start the search. If an auto-suggest term is selected, then enter works, but not with just typing something in. Minor really, but it would be convenient.

Perhaps a repository of online instructions at Lego.com that were exclusive to Brickmaster subscribers; there were also some just through the regular Lego club Magazine. It would be helpful for those who don't have access to one or the other or both. As a community effort (like the wallpaper repository) it wouldn't be hard to get a complete (at least fairly complete) collection.

Expansion of the minifig photo galleries. New series of CMs are out, and there are several themes that haven't been done yet - Atlantis for one, and Castle.

Over 18, United States

Any criticism I have is very minor in the context of the lego universe - perhaps some of the minifig images could be a bit larger?

Over 18, United Kingdom

Reviews.

I live in Hungary, so none of the Spanish, French, English, American etc. discounts are relevant, yet I couldn't find a way (start url to bookmark) that excludes these kind of news. Since there are RSS sans auto generated discount warnings, I guess there is a start page or setting somewhere, but It's not as trivial.

Over 18, Hungary

The only feature that I would like to see added is a way to update individual parts that are purchased for building MOC's to have a more accurate count of total peices.

Over 18, United States

None at this moment.

Over 18, United States

Ooh, here's some really irritating issues:

1. OSX, Chrome, whenever I'm searching lists, the thumbnail image zoom breaks nearly 100% of the time. The first time it zooms, but everyone I click on afterwards shrinks into oblivion.

2. whenever I hit enter on a auto suggest search, it fills in the search, and I have to hit enter again to actually search. If I hit enter on an auto suggest it should just go to the page.

3. You should be able to sort on all fields in the browse/search listings. Sometimes I want to see the sets ranked by want/own, and can't.

Over 18, United States

- Advanced set search would be nice-- similar to Peeron's.

- Not too fond of the eBay links on the front page... Also, they sometimes show MegaBloks auctions!

- Search box's auto-complete seems to override the "enter" button. If I start typing a set name, it will bring up the viable matches (which is fine), but then if I hit "enter" to conduct the search, it won't let me. I *have* to click the "go" button, or select the appropriate match from the list. (Using Firefox)

- It's been discussed before, but I'd like to see TONS more review data. I don't really care about textural reviews, but more along the lines of what EVERYONE thinks (large sample-set of data, perhaps even cross-referenced with voter's age, gender, ownership of the set in question, etc)

- Customizable data mining (I guess sort of similar to advanced search, just allowing you to search on user-data rather than fixed set data)

- Advanced search on forums

- Multiple categories/themes for each set ("set is a 'system' set, set is a Star Wars set, set is a 'magnet' set", rather than "it's a system->star wars->magnet set")

Over 18, United States

Not a big fan of the recent eBay list at the top of the home page. I felt the new at Lego.com list was more important than what you can possible get on eBay. However, I do think it's a great idea to put eBay listing links on the bottom of the individual set pages. For example, if I looked up an old 1994 Lego pirate set, it's nice to have a list of what's available containing to that set on eBay. You know what I mean?

Over 18, United States

The introduction of all the bargain feeds from Aamzon etc have made the front page seem cluttered and hard to determine where the actual news articles start and the pricing streams end. These need to be moved either to their own page or to the side.

Over 18, United Kingdom

I don't like the two scrolls at the top of the homepage featuring ebay and shop@home. One would look much nicer. Oh, and I wouldn't mind the tabs at the top of the home page being just a tad larger.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Maybe a formal trading post / portal, where people could post their "wants" and their "offered for trades" sets (although this may be catered for, by the forum - I've just never used that).

Could extend this concept to the "my sets" section of users' accounts, so rather than just "I have" / "Need" tickboxes, maybe you could include an additional one called "Sale / Trade", then you could make that viewable to other people and they could see what you have...

Over 18, United Kingdom

To be honest, there really isn't anything that I don't like.

Over 18

I don't like the "Right Now on Ebay feature"

The ACM feature need to be improved (graphically too)
The older sets listing and images needs to be seriously improved.

You should add the ability to chat with someone that is online.

and last but not least ...

MAKE AN APP FOR IPAD THAT WORKS|

More reviews of new sets please.
Please update your database of old lego sets.
Information is mostly (not all, I agree) about UK and US news. More information about 'continental' europe subjects would increase importance of the site for other european users. If you need people to give you this information please call for people who would like to give you this information.

Over 18

Perhaps time to give the design a spring clean, but hardly essential.

Some of the poorly rated reviews should be chopped. I see the occasional 'It rocks but my dad shoulda bought me a bigger one' type review still in place.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Not so keen on the new ebay bar. It has too much priority. I would prefer it as a box under the Amazon, Lego and Argos boxes in the right-hand column. column. (That's why the home page didn't score a 6!)

Never used the forum - so can't comment on that.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Site graphics and appearance is dated!

Over 18, United Kingdom

When I search for something by set number and click on the set number below where I was typing I'd like to go directly to that page. I have sat here many times in the past waiting for something to happen and then realizing I am the idiot. If I see something in the list and click on it-that's where I want to go. It auto-loads the correct text and then I must click the search button. This is the only complaint I have. Please keep up the good work.

Over 18, United States

The mobile version of Brickset has a reduced database with no reviews. It has also stopped including user comments on the news pages.

Over 18, United Kingdom

I know it will be almost impossible but I would have like to have more pictures of each set. Many new sets there are multiple pictures of the set, I would have liked that on all sets.

I don't use the forum at all, I think this site is not about discussing. I think the comment on news is enough...
I hope you keep the focus on the database and the news section in the future. Don't let the forum take over the site...

Over 18, Norway

I'm not all that focused on OMG WHAT SET IS CHEAP NOW. I realize I am not in the majority here. But the eBay links at the top - meh.

Over 18, Canada

I really havn't done enough to be unhappy, but I do like the Brick show review style of being videos by adults. Maybe something similar here?

Over 18, United States

What don't you like?

Over 18, Poland

I like the amazon bargain page, but the prices change so often and makes the front page seem unprofessional. Maybe a drop down box or something.

Over 18, United States

I guess there´s nothing particulrly wrong, but some thing could be improved, such as more and in a better resolution pics of some older sets. Also, the Amazon offers in the news feed is annoying in my opinion. It can be easily placed in the right column, and then it can have more offers updated in real time. Or maybe in another place. Anyway, I'm really thankful to everybody that made this page happen!

Over 18, Paraguay

News on front page from Amazon quite repetitive

Over 18, Spain

The fact you have to log in so your Amazon preferences change. I want to visit the site without logging in. My Cookies should save my prefernces.

I don't like the fact that when you email some news you don't get recognition. I emailed the series 5 "what's in the box" stats first only for it to come out days later. You don't listen enough to the users of the site.

The Ebay sales at the top is awful. If I want to buy something from Ebay I will search for it instead of it being pushed on me.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Would be nice to customize the themes added to the "new additions to database" or to subscribe to new reviews.

Over 18, United States

I myself an not a big fan of Ebay. But I'm sure there are others out there who do use it. That's just me.

Over 18, United States

I understand that you want to make money, but the site has been overrun by Amazon/eBay updates! I know this is a new feature, but I think the "news" should be on the home page and the price updates on a separate tab.
Also, when typing in the set number in the search box, it displays suggestions. Upon selecting the suggestion, you then have to click the "Go" button. I have already selected the set I want to look up, it seems redundant to have to click "Go". What I think you should do is like Google, when a suggestion is selected, it should automatically search for that set.

Over 18, United States

Need a review and bricklist search... Email responses should also be more frequent...

Over 18, United States

nothing

Over 18, Netherlands

I activated the ACM but am not really sure how to put it to use. More instruction on how to retrieve the info once you input it all for your sets and what reports it can give back to you (ie can I pull a list of the sets I marked as having boxes for or directions for or the ones I don't have them for?)

Over 18, United States

Remove this ebay banner at the top of the frontpage.

Over 18, Switzerland

Some sets don't have a photo or have a less detailed one.

Over 18, Hungary

Forum is not so easy to follow.
Owning a box or not tick.
Box images of sets.

Over 18, Germany

I think could be interesting seeing the physical dimensions of the sets: weight, max lenght, max height etc..

Over 18, Italy

Sometimes when I try to change the quantity of an item I have it doesn't update the number when I refresh the screen. This happens both in the long detail list where you say have all the atlantis sets from the browse and also in the larger blow-up of the item when you click on the items link and you get the main large picture and the additional images page. If I change the quantity on either screen there are times it doesn't update the quantity. Can't determine a specific pattern other than it just sometimes doesn't work. // It would be cool to be able to jump from an item in brickset that I own and be taken directly over to Peeron to see all the parts that make up that set. I like both sites ability to track what I have both high level and down to the part.

Over 18, United States

I dont like the search function. Sometimes I type in a set number and it comes back empty. The forum search if F****** useless too! I don't know if I'm using it wrong or what but I'll remember a couple words from a thread title and I'll search it and it will just give me the front page of threads in a different format. Useless... I'm better off going back pages and pages till I find it.

Over 18, United States

News content for Canada severly lacks, (jealous of the amazon sales outside of Canada), ebay listings are a waste of real estate on the home page, so few postings, odds of it being something you are looking for are slim to none.

Over 18, Canada

Away to filter out kfols and tfol's reviews. They make me want to kill things.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Within the forums, I'd actually like to see a "flag" comment function. Reason, very rarely, but every-so-often, a derogative comment (or potentially derogative comment) does surface. I will admit that I'm brash enough to respond back to those individuals, yet too lazy to contact administration about the comment. My only fear, though, is that if a "flag" comment function did exist, a certain respect which most of the people on Brickset have, might slightly decay. Outside of that frustration, I marvel at every adjustment and addition added to the site.

Ooh, one other item. If I search trains within the browse function, I only see trains that were sold under the trains catagory... I'd almost like to see an additional tab (or a check this box function) when searching for all train products from across all lines. Right now, anyone searching for trains would miss out on the Harry Potter train and the Toy Story train. Again, again! Thank you for such a wonderful community :)

Over 18, United States

This has been discussed before in the forum, but the ability to manage multiple "own" set lists would be great. One for selling, one for my daughter's stuff, etc. without the need for separate accounts.

More dynamic filtering on data mining for sets. Too many hardcoded categories (most wanted excluding SW, with SW, etc). If more dynamic allowing pulldowns the screen is less busy and more functional (you can pick to do all, or all excluding SW, all excluding collectable MFs, etc).

Over 18, United States

not really found anything that i 'dislike' yet

Over 18, United Kingdom

more instructions for older sets

Over 18, United States

I don't like the new Right now on Ebay bar. The quality of Ebay listings is usually rather poor - often, Lego sets there are grossly overpriced, even sets that are currently being sold by Lego. The random nature of the bar and the limited space available means it almost always shows things that are of minimal or no relevance to me. The Ebay/Amazon links on a particular set's page are far more useful.

Over 18, United States

The only thing I've noticed to be improved is on the home page the New to Database list of sets appears vertically and overlaps onto the News, which makes it quite difficult to see either clearly.

Over 18, United Arab Emirates

Links don't work on mobile app.

The site works, but if you knew a web designer to make the the site more user friendly/funkier, that would be ace!

Over 18, United Kingdom

POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS (small tweaks really)

For me one of the main things about brickset is the reviews BUT there aren't enough & good ones for sets that are new or currently available (amazon, lego.com & shops etc) i.e the sets most of us buy!

WE NEED TO GET MORE REVIEWS FOR CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND NEW SETS - BUT HOW?

How do we make people write more set reviews? here are some ideas....

FIRST REVIEWER UPDATE ON THE HOMEPAGE - for the first person to review a set post an update on the homepage ''member so and so has written the first review of set xxxx'',with a link to the review - the incentive being get your name in lights for the writing the first review (even if its tosh!) AND for the rest of us - if the review wasn't great go on and write a better review..

ENCOURAGE PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY OWN A CURRENTLY AVAILABLE SET WITHOUT MANY REVIEWS (OR GOOD REVIEWS) TO WRITE ONE
I know on MY SETS it lists those where you haven't written a review but perhaps it could be rejigged to highlight the sets you own without any reviews, or without many reviews and say ''please consider writing a review about this set, other Brickset members are very interested in the views of people who own this set etc....''

REVIEW OF THE WEEK ON THE HOMEPAGE
a link to the new review (of any set) with the most good ratings, you may need to review this

A few other things....

STICKERS...
I don't think I hate stickers as much as some but they do get on my nerves in vast quantities - we just built World Racers - 8864 Desert of Destruction and there were 82 stickers!!!! (I know, I need to write a review as there is only one and I'm ignoring what I said above!) , 82 stickers out of 961 peices....FOR NEW SETS COULD YOU INCLUDE A NUMBER OF STICKERS - might give TLG a nudge....

AMAZON DISCOUNT PAGE
This is fab but could you consider including updates for PRICE INCREASES - the last few days has seen most prices boosted (discounts cut) - no doubt in few days/weeks they'll come

Over 18, United Kingdom

To be able to directly respond to coments, not just @hfhghgh eg:

Coment fthdrjghddgjd
Response to above coment rtgjdfhgdfjhgdf

Also keeping pictures consistent, either pictures of the box or the set on a white backround, having both when your scrolling though sets looks kind of tacky.

Over 18, United States

Amazon notices. There are other sites that have done that so maybe u should focus.

Iphone app needs to be more slick and the images/information should be as complete as the site. Make it like the imdb app.

Over 18, Indonesia

Over 18, United States

One thing I like less is the search option. I mean, how it was adapted : the suggest list actually slows down my searching. That's because I mostly know the set number I'm looking for. Before the update, I typed the set number and hit enter. If the set number was correct, I'd end up directly on the right page. If not, I'd get a blank page and if there were several items corresponding to that number, I'd get the options. Now, I either have to click "go" or have to click in the suggest list. Off course, for people using other search indexes or not knowing the complete set number or name, the suggest list is very useful. So, I'm not saying it should go. Take the best of both worlds : just adapt it to go straight to the right set page if you enter the right set number and push enter, so without clicking the suggest, just like it was before. It's a tiny mini thing, but I have to admit : I am verrrry lazy :-)

I am Belgian and I hardly find news from Belgium or one of the surrounding countries (Germany, France, Netherlands, Luxemburg). Obvious, because only Germany has some Lego shops and there isn't really much going on here. But still. I'm planning on starting my own LUG (since the Belgian one is not really succesful) and I can tell Lego is still hugely popular over here (or is it just me). Who knows, I might become a Belgian correspondent one day ;-)

As an AFOL, I sometimes buy sets just because of that one tiny element that finishes my MOC. I just spotted what I think is a very exciting new brick for SNOT-fans. Did you see it ? It's a round, flat, 1 stud dish I hadn't seen before. Maybe I missed something and maybe it has been around for a while. But it's totally new and exciting to me. You can see it in a transparant green version on the belly of the robot in upcoming set 3933 and on the table and underneath the fence in front of the fireplace in set 3300002. I think this tiny element will create a lot of opportunities. Worth mentioning ?
Keep up the great wor

I would like a free inventory feature to be added because peeron need's a lugnet membership and that costs and is time consuming to do. Would be nice to have a track on all the sets I own and to know what sets I could build with the parts I have and to know the exact number of pcs. I own.

Over 18, Romania

The design and graphics are a little boring.

Over 18, Mexico

I feel that the homepage has been going downhill; I don't care for the constant Amazon updates and also don't like the new Ebay on the top of the Homepage

Over 18, United States

Please give me the option to remove the Amazon and eBay and any selling/advertising links at all. I come here first for set information and then for news, but not for buying.

Also, if only one search result is returned as a suggestion, please automatically go to that page rather than waiting for me to click the link.

Over 18, Germany

Rebrickable functionality!

Over 18, Netherlands

Well, since I hail from Brazil, I think things here on the site are too focused on USA and western Europe; I guess this would be a common complain from people around the globe, outside the said regions. However, I know that we, from other countries, are not a strong Lego market and that is the main reason for the lack of scope.

Over 18, Brazil

I dont like the amazon deals taking up the news space. Perhaps if they had their own page and the news could stay on the front page.

Over 18, United States

Sometimes the search engine is difficult to use when I'm searching for a set. Probably user error, but it likes to autofill (maybe too qucikly?) with stuff I'm not looking for.

Over 18, United States

However the site design leaves something to be desired. It's a little bit on the old fart-ish side. Doesn't really seem as modern as the LEGO brick or even as cool or new as LEGO's own site. You should use all that HTML 5 offers to build an amazing site.

Maybe Brickset could get a daily deal or something going? Like groupon for LEGO?

Streamline the amount of news posts. I sometimes feel like if all the contributors were able to have a private forum where they could chat then it would get rid of the amount of redunt posts that we're seeing.

Also, why doesn't Brickset provide coverage of NY toyfair or stuff like that? I'm certain that they'res some correspondent in the US that could make it up there for that.

Overall a great site though, and it only gets better and better.

Over 18, United States

Nothing I don't like, but there are a few requests.

Would be useful to have multiple set lists in "Sets I own" and "Sets I want", so you can record your entire collection but also focus on specific areas eg I have loads of Lego which I'm interested in capturing, but am mainly interested in my extended Town/City collection. Would also like prioritisation for Wanted sets.

A function that lists where the current cheapest location to buy would be good.

Forum is a good improvement, although it could do with some sub classifications.

Over 18, United Kingdom

More pictures in the database. Sometimes there is only one picture, and that's of the packaging. Various angles and out of box photos would be nice

Over 18, United States

the amazon updates can get spammy, but i enjoy seeing them. It would be nice if they had something similar to the eBay row on the homepage, that way they were separate from the news but still visible.

Over 18, United States

Over 18, Germany

An easier submission process for sets currently omitted from the database that is responded to.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Only put relevant news, updates and new LEGO releases on home page. Do not put Amazon.com bargains or eBay updates on the home page. For those who are interested in Amazon.com bargains or other sales, please add a separate link.

Over 18, Poland

Some sets are still missing from the database. Updating the database with older sets is advised.

Over 18, Netherlands

there isn't really anything I don't like about the site.

Over 18, United Kingdom

* not very much Safari and iOS friendly (eg. zoom out bug)
* advanced collection management 'too many clicks away'

Over 18, Poland

Not too keen on the ebay bit on the home page.

Over 18, United Kingdom

I think the search engine needs to be worked on a bit more. Simply using keywords usually doesn't work too well. Also, I hate the new ebay bar. I'd rather have the S@H bar back.

Over 18, United States

Sick of all the Amazon links and specials. I know I can turn them off on the newsfeed, but it is everywhere...

Over 18, Australia

I would like mobile link at the top of the homepage removed. Instead the first time you visit the site you should be asked whether you want to use the mobile site or the normal site.

The only other thing is would say is a slight problem is the discrepancies with the minifigs compared to Bricklink. There seems to be quite a few more on there than here.

Over 18, United Kingdom

I think it's fine really. The forum is not massive but I suppose that is about how long it has(n't) been up for, and the relayively low numbers of members who post anything up there. As a forum technically it seems to work fine though.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Search is occasionally twitchy. Really don't like the eBya feature replacing new in the store.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Useless ebay tray
Put the direct links to all amazon alerts, not only of the user country (or make the choice possible)

Over 18, France

I don't like all the amazon updates but I was able to turn the feature off. I also understand that some people find it useful so it makes sense.

Over 18, United States

I can't think of anything that would improve the site.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Of late there have been a number of news items that related to other countries' Bargain Watch. My respect for the fact that not everything revolves around the country I currently live in (USA) doesn't entirely mitigate the fact that sometimes it feels like some of these posts are cluttering up what feels like an imminently well-focused and relevant stream of information.

The iOS apps that have been developed to make use of the info are great, but not overly stable. I really like using them on my iPad, but it can be a bit of a disappointment at times. When it works, I use it frequently (four to five times a week).

Over 18, United States

The only bad thing here is the atrocious spelling in some of the reviews(which you have no power over)

Over 18, United States

I think you should add:
A feature to 'ask a question' to someone who has written a review of the site ie: Person A writes a review of set 1234, and ticks the box that they are happy to answer questions. Person B looks at the set details page, clicks on 'ask a question', types the question and submits. The question is then sent by email to all who have ticked the box to say they will answer questions, and they will reply to the sender.

A Brickset messaging system, like on Bricklink, instead of relying on email.

A feature to show on profile pages whether or not someone is online, and when they last were.

Trades system - Person A wants a set/part/minifig. They look on the set details page or add to wanted list. On the set details page there is a pop up (like for images) that shows all of the users who have it for trade, their country, and the approximate value they have put in for it. There is also a link to show 'Items that I have that Person A wants' or 'Items that Person A wants'. Person B can then contact Person A through the Brickset messaging system (see above) to arrange a trade. They can then leave feedback, which will show up on the other persons profile. Also integration with Bricklink, so that items in someone's store can automatically be added to their 'for trade' list (which will be accessible from their profile)

Integration with Bricklink or another inventory site to have part lists and support for Bricklink store stock and wanted lists for trading.

More minifigure galleries.

Maybe register as a proper LUG (and qualify for LUGBULK) and have an event. (@Matthew mentioned that a while ago)

I don't like the ebay bar.

I think we should have more competitions.

I'm sure I'll think of more - which I'll email to you!

Last year I suggested that the resolution of older set images, such as those in the nineties, be increased. Some of the images are so small (such as the £2 sets) that no details are distinguishable

Over 18, France

The iPad/iPhone app! It is HORRIBLE! I design and develop iPhone and iPad apps as a profession. The Brickset app is one of the worst I ever encountered. Especially when compared to the site, which is a great resource that works when I need it.

What I miss a little bit is the option to modify the home-page. Some news is irrelevant to me. I also would like to see new price drops on Amazon on the home-page, but only the ones that are important for me.

Over 18, Netherlands

the typing bar is confusing and hard to find some items on it.

Over 18, United Kingdom

Over time, it might be interesting to see minifigures also categorized by torsos, so you can look up specific combinations that torso has been a part of.

I wish I could search more by the price per piece. I generally think this is an under-utilized statistic.

I also think a series of articles on Lego might be interesting, I would be particularly interested in a discussion on the contrast in minifigure quality between the minifigure series and set mini-figures (the difference is substantial as many have noted).

I like the amazon feature, however, I think your algorithm misses sets, for example, during a recent sale, Mill Village Raid was on sale and was on the amazon bargain watch page for a while, but it continued to be on about 20-25% off throughout the week, and even though it should have appeared in my bargain watch list (I had it filtered to 20%) it did not appear. You may want to look into why that might be the case.

I think it would be super helpful to have a statistic in for retired sets showing an average sell price on eBay for the last 10 or so closed auctions.

Oh, and when I look at my "sets I want" think, and it says you want "x" amount, I wish this could some how incorporate the idea that to procure the sets now I might need to pay more than the manufacturer price. I have no idea how you would do this, but it is a thought.

A parts list to list all differrent parts that are/have been in circulation.

Jus tlist the parts regardless of colour.

Some othger sites have parts listing however they are out of date and/or incomplete.

Over 18, Ireland

The main page is now getting absolutely spammed with Amazon sale entries. I am interested in some of these but an occasional visitor will be swamped with these advertisements and will not easily see the actual news in there.

I would propose to only show the amazon pages for people that HAVE signed in and specifically selected to see those items.

Over 18, United States

Rolling out shopping ads to all logged in users stunk. I shouldn't have to be spammed just because I'm logged in. At times, it seems like new set news rolls out a little slower than on other sites. I don't mind affiliate links, and more buying option links would actually be welcome.

Over 18, United States

I would like the enter to key to initiate a search even if the info isn't pre-filled. It proves to be difficult on a mobile device having to try and find the go button.

For me it would be nice if there was the ability to theme the webpage to make things a little fresh but that's not that important.

I don't use the forum as there's already are a few good ones and don't have the time to peruse them all.

The iOS app isn't very good, maybe it could be improved.

Over 18, Canada

I would like to be able to rate sets without having to write a lengthy review. It would be completely okay if these ratings where seperate from the review ratings (like "user rating" vs "review rating").

I am wondering why there is no link to the "advanced collection manager" on the set detail page but only in list view.

The mobile site needs improvements. It should be easier to see which set you own (it is, as far as I can see, not indicated on the set detail page but only by viewing the list of owned sets). A general overhaul is needed bringing more of the desktop-site functionality into the mobile site - it is a fantastic tool when shopping for lego but it definately needs improvement.

Move all the amazon feeds into separate (by country) RSS feeds.
The home page and the site design are fine but could be better.

Something that would be nice but would be very time consuming would be to add a piece inventory for each set. Bricklink has a semi-working system for this but it would be nice to see a total piece inventory like at the back of the instruction manuals.

Being able to set "status" for each of the sets you own (i.e. MISB or Used/Opened), but without having to use the advanced database functions (i.e. you should be able to use it with the standard interface if you select this option).

Perhaps this would also be interesting for sets you want (i.e. set if you want it MISB or Used)

Quite a few sets do not have original msrp. make custom lists that are private - for example, a 'buy' list of discontinued sets in the castle theme. A 'buy' list for my kids, a 'buy' list for me. No value to anyone else, but it would help me keep track of collection goals for the year, etc.

I also think it would be nice to have a comment page for Lego. What do you like this year. What is a gripe, what do you wish Lego would make, etc. I think something like that would be a little tricky but doable, and it would give valuable feedback to Lego and help give us what we want. Hard to ignore lots of consumers even if it is unsolicited feedback.

One issue I have with the news is that although you can customise the news you see on the home page (if logged in), it doesn't seem to apply to the RSS feed, which is how I actually read the news. When zoomed image and I press right arrow, in some pages it focuses some text field or anything like this, it should move on next image, nothing else. Faster zooming, it takes about 1/2s to zoom, too slow. When image zoomed, there could be thumbmnils of other images of the set, when I click on it, it will be shown in the zoomed window, everything without navigating to other page.
There should be also videos of the sets, for example automatically searched videos on youtube on new tab of the set.

It would be great if I could catalog everything I have by LEGO here. In Brickset the minifigs are not complete and there are also different items that are not in the set guide. I know that Brickset mostly deals with sets but for an example some Brickjournal issues are listed (10,12,13,14 and 15) while the others are not. Why is that so?
The same with pens, there are quite a few listed but unfortunately not the ones I have.
It would also be easier to search for items if I could just enter the name and did not have to know either the number or e.g. have to look at gear and then work my way down to Brickjournal. At Bricklink you have that option and that's very easy to work with.
But still, Huw, you're doing a fantastic job with Brickset and I wouldn't want to miss this site.

Now that you're tracking more Amazons, include the RRP prices in different countries besides UK/US. This price item can be a user defined currency so I can see what it is in Euros in amazon.de, for example.

Also related to price tracking, send an email to a user when a "wanted" item goes under a price defined by the user.

Also, maybe add the current price of a set on bricklink for reference?

Also, I don't like to see set boxes watermarks on the 2012 LEGO images sets on Brickset. Even if the 'German' toystore use LEGO dealers catalog and added their own watermark. Since the images are really LEGO copyright images of 2012. I hope you will replace those images with LEGO own images of the 2012 sets. I hope you know what I mean. I'd like to see all instruction links together. At the moment the Peeron ones are on the links tab.
I'd like to see the eBay and Buy tabs combined but I understand why they are the way they are.
I'd like set numbers in (system) Notes to be clickable. For example set 3221, where the notes say 'Similar set to 7848'. Maybe even a separate entry in the set data; 'Related to' for rereleases, special editions, country variations etcetera.

My biggest bugbear though is the textbox for searching. If I type a setnumber and the dropdown appears with possible matches then the Enter key no longer works. The suggestions are sometimes useful, but other times I just want to type something and hit Enter to search. So please fix that if possible.
Next if I select an option from the suggestions dropdown it doesn't take me to that page straight away. Instead it only populates the search box so after selecting from the dropdown I need to click 'Go' or hit Enter.
These two seem like minor issues but I think they would make the search much easier to use.

One small 'pet peeve' is the search box in the upper right. Sometimes if I type in a set number quickly and press enter, it will automatically go to that set. Other times if I type it in a bit more slowly, it just sits there, and I have to actually click on the 'Go' button. I think this is because I am typing it slow enough that it has time to bring up the drop-down menu, and then the focus is changing or something. Dunno. Might be my browser (Firefox). Just a minor annoyance.

I would also prefer the Reviews page or perhaps the ACM page to default when you bring up a set, rather than the eBay page - I am not at all interested in eBay. But I can understand if this is being done from a sponsor/advertising perspective.

I find it somewhat misleading that the CMFs are counted as a 'set' in your set total (as well as baseplates, brick separators, DK books, etc.)- I have multiples of each, and this blows my set total way up, so it is difficult to know how many actual 'sets' I have. I have to manually count out the ones that aren't really sets. Maybe some other category on the set for 'set', 'minifig', 'other', or something...? Just a thought.

Something that's more a personal request - I am primarily a Star Wars collector, and I wish the original trilogy sets were broken down by Episode like the prequels are, instead of all just being lumped in as 'Episode IV - VI'. I also find it confusing (and a bit annoying) that some of the newer sets (ex: 7869, 7877, 7879, etc.) don't have a 'subtheme'. I would like to see consistency across the theme.

Other than those minor things - keep up the great job!!

The Amazon watch info is a bit stagnant. You may want to break it up into the Top 10 items that stay in the list (some seemingly forever) and the Top 10 movers and shakers making the list (most recent entries that are 25% and above discounts.)

I don't use Ebay, so no particular comment from me on it (besides the fact that I don't use it -- primarily because I don't have the time to monitor it -- even a little.)

Some ideas for site improvements:

-> Expansion of the trade feature in the ACM.

-> View someone's wanted list (already can), and be able to see which of those sets I own (to facilitate trading).

-> ACM interface needs some usability tweaks, when editing information via the tab on the set details, it is quite difficult to use as you can't see all of the columns and using the scrollbars is not a nice experience.Editing the ACM data from a list is a much better experience as you can see all of the columns.

-> Tweak the algorithm used to rank the most helpful bricklists. It seems that if one person marks a list as unhelpful but overall there a lot of helpful ratings, there is too much weight attached to the one negative rating. E.g. a bricklist with 6/6 ratings is ranked as more helpful than a bricklist with 19/20 ratings.

-> An easier way of changing the order of items within a bricklist.

-> Tweak the wording in the My Sets panel to make it clear where duplicates are/aren't included. e.g. duplicates are excluded from the count of sets but included in the number of pieces.

-> Not a big fan of the new ebay panel, I think this may have value, but maybe not deserving of space on the home page.

I think it needs it's own part database and inventories. I know there are others, but there are also other minifig databases and other set databases. Brickset is one of the best, because of it's "modern" design and it's functions. That's something the others don't have or don't have much. So, you understand what I mean, it's time for an new level of set inventories/part databases. Brickset has everything except that, it's even the most important, without Lego parts, this site wouldn't exist at all.

There is also another little thing:
before the ACM, I was able to "flip" between the images. I mean that if I (for example) look into the list with Technic sets, I was able to click a picture and use the arrow keys to go to the next or previous picture. Now (since the ACM) you can't, Now it is Picture>Notes>ACM>instructions>and then the next picture.
I liked the first one really much, this is so annoying.

Another idea: maybe you can at the Technic sets add links to Blakbird's Technicopedia. It's just a little idea.

Over 18, Netherlands

The division of the sets into sub-groups can be a little frustrating.

Some things like Atlantis or Power Miners have several sub group organisations that seem redundant - 'bonus sets' and 'sub themes of gear' add to the confusion - particularly as sometime these items do not show up under the more general 'theme' grouping and therefore become hard to find. Just a minor niggle in an otherwise excellent database.

Over 18, Denmark

I don't like the fact that the set reviews have been removed from the front page if the individual set pages. I think that there should be more emphasis put on the brickset community and less effort put towards invasive marketing of such places as Amazon.com and eBay.com. I preferred the old style where the eBay auctions and Amazon deals were small and on the side of the page. They did not interfere with the information about the set I was perusing.

Over 18, United States

Firstly - nothing that I don't like. New features that I would like to see are mostly around ACM. To date this is a great addition to Brickset and always easy to export the data for use in other applications (I have now sunset my access database).

The next areas that I would like to see addressed in ACM:

1) some user defined variables (eg owner - I have a family collection but need to resolve ownership disputes!)
2) drop down selections on all fields with the ability to tailor the variables
3) management of variables (ie ability to delete some of the rubbish that my poor typing has added already), and
4) more reporting straight out of Bricklink on my ACM data (eg collection summary with images, stats etc)
5) valuation of my collection - I have followed a number of the discussions on this one - and there is no right or wrong answer - just need to pick a methodology (or maybe a few to range the value)

Huw, thanks again for an outstanding year with Brickset - over the next year I want to get more involved in the Forums - just need to move to the US with work first!! Mike

As with most user-generated content, the quality of set reviews can vary greatly. Perhaps the moderators could provide a few quickie reviews here and there if there are no high quality reviews? Maybe you could allow users to upload photos of older sets (box art, etc) for sets that have only a few small photos on the site. It's a very useful website with a lot of features, but if you are a casual user you might miss some of the functions like customizing the news feed contents. I also forgot that I needed to click a button to update the minifigs in my collection from the sets that I own. Mostly those were my fault for forgetting or overlooking the instructions, but it's a minor ease of use issue. Perhaps the minifigs owned from sets could be automatically or periodically updated. It would be nice if it were easier to add a link to a set in the forums, but the embedded html works if you know how to do it.
In the past day or so (Nov 1), there are pages that seem to be loaded completely but the browser continues to churn and says it is waiting for "api-public.addthis.com." This has been on several pages including the set detail pages or the minifig myCollection browser.

DACTA/Educational sets added to database
Amazon pricedrops are quite useless feature (at least within europe) as prices are quickly corrected probably based upon sales volume and propbably because of low inventory in the first place.

PS I don't expect it to be brickset, but as the Lego online shop is unavailable to most countries, there could be a trustworthy affiliate who could channel and forward the most cool features (design-by-me set creations & exclusive sets, which are otherwise available only through second-hand hefty premiums usually for double or more the price)

One big issue for me is that I mostly access the site via my phone and the mobile site doesn't allow me to do everything I would like to - the biggest thing is searching the database. I'm not able to recognise sets by numbers so I search quite frequently and I have to switch back to the regular site to search and it's just a bit of a pain to be honest!

I don't really like it when off-topic, immature comments are posted on the news articles (though I *may* have been guilty of this myself once or twice!) as I think they really lower the tone of the site and clog up the space, and potentially cause you to miss a relevant comment among the drivel. I have noticed that recently off-topic comments have been more frequently deleted and I appreciate this effort.

I'm not a huge fan of the Ebay banner, I think the potential is for it to cheapen the tone of the site and put off possible new members from joining.

I don't like that when I am messaged via the forum that I have to go into the site rather than being able to reply directly. I know I've accidentally emailed Huw on more than occasion and I can't be the only one! (Am I???)

I know the forum is hosted by a different, um, Internet thing (server?? Don't know the jargon!) but would it be possible to include some of the profile info from the main site to the Forum profiley bit too, so that you can see people's collections, want lists etc there rather than having to switch. Again, this is an issue because on my phone I can't just have 2 windows open and view both conveniently.

I don't like the number of threads on the forum that are about what is or isn't in stock on Amazon, or what is currently discounted there (just look at the bargain watch!). It gets a but repetitive but maybe that's just me.

I think that's about it.

Feature to be added, the same I'm asking at each survey : improve "My friends" facilities, including :

Data mining is very poor. I'd like to be able to search via a number of differnet factors rather than one at a time - I'm then left facing a huge list where most items are irrelevant. An improvement to this would be the best change you could make IMHO. Cross searching by members contributions would be very handy too.

We are all Lego fans so scores tend to be always high (4 or 5). A constructive, harsh review is very rare indeed. Introduction of a new scoring system to the reviews section with more factors, marked between 1-10 would be a start. This would have to be kept simple to ensure our younger users can still contribute - their opinions are of value too!

I am also a big fan of boardgames. The site boardgamegeek.com is entirely made up of user based contributions with a fantastic layout and data mining facilities. In my opinion it is second to none for quality of information within a specialist hobby field. Users have a login and individuals can mine data from each other. There is a huge varity of useful data seaches that can be made and it is all self regulating. Virtual currency, 'positive thumbing' and modest moderation make it a joy to use. Although I think you guys are doing a great job have a glance at boardgamegeek, I'm sure you'll be inspired to improve this website further. Note: I have no association with BGG other than as a user.

When searching for a set, a list appear right after typing (which is nice) but after selecting from the list the set I want, I have to click the "Go" button - very annoying!!! as I obviously know what set I want to look at (picked it from the list) why would I need to reconfirm my selection by hitting "Go"?

improving the inlarged pictures - right now the inlarged pictures are bigger versions of the small one's - but making the inlarged pictures to be full res pictures (2000x2000 or higher) would be better as I could see details that might affect my decision to either buy the set or not to buy it.

adding original pricing of sets to OLD sets in the database would be graet as well - mainly cause I could know if the asked price on bricklink / ebay etc. is being overpriced or being discount. again - effecting my decision of either buying the set or not.
the price should be in US dollars too, as most online sellers post their stock in that currency. in addtion, converting from US dollars to any other currency is better being done myself right before payment is done, as the currents keep on changing.
right now it's the main reason I still go to the lugnet guide as they have original pricing of most old sets.

old instructions - importing them from Lego.com would be nice, the oldest instructions I saw there were from 96 and them being PDF's instead of Peeron's jpg's I would like it more if I could get them from brickset instead of going back and forth between Peeron & brickset.

The homepage seriously needs a facelift. The programing seems excellent, (as the allround order and structure of the page) - but you need a designer on the board. Let me know if I can help. I've some experience from coperate design management, trained at www.designwerk.dk before running my own company (www.dezigm.com), which is now resting since I'm fulltime employed at an great organisation.

Regarding the set info form - I tried to report dome set info news, I wrote the message and clicked submit button, but no confirmation like "your message was sent" or something showed up. I clcked several times, but it seemed like no response. So I was not sure if my message was delivered, therefore I choose and filled "Contact Us" form.

I think it's a shame that there is no feature where you can download the entire database as a Excel document, just giving the basic information without pictures, so that menbers and non members could keep a record on their computer of the lego sets they have rather than keep going online to check.

Get rid of the ebay bar... it looks tacky and if I want to search ebay I can. And it also removes that opportunity of 'secret' finds and bargains found on ebay if you know a tonne of other people have also seen the picture. Unless it's bringing in a load of revenue I'd remove it to somewhere else rather than top billing on the front page.

Set reviews by kids/younger members don't add much to my decision making. There was suggestion of being able to filter reviews by KFOLs/AFOLs but I haven't checked if this was implemented.

All in all great work Huw! (and Huwbot :P) and the rest of the team.

I don't like the fact that the site is quite so modest- a larger logo and title on the front page to let you know you have arrived would be good, so long as the news is there.

Don't like 'now on ebay' on the front page, preferred set by set link.

Don't like the multitude of topics on the forum, too hard to find the right one, would rather instant message AFOL 'members online now'.

The autocomplete function for the search field is impressive, but in my experience it does not always work correctly. That is, when I type some numbers or letters, a list will popup with suggestions. When I simply press enter to litteraly search for the specified term, it not always works. It will do nothing and I have to manually press the "OK"-button.

In the above survey I miss the option of "Don't know", since I don't use the forum I couldn't rate it.

The following is not really your problem, but I figured I'd share it anyway. In my webbrowser (Chrome) I have an extension which causes trouble on the Brickset-website. Whenever I click on an image, it will enlarge. When I click on it again, it will shrink. When I click on it again, it will disappear. I will do some further tests to find out which extension it is.

I'd like more set reviews. Some way of encouraging more members into submitting reviews (or perhaps ratings). It's hard to see what looks like a great set have a score of 3.8 and only had 1 or 2 reviews. Is it really that bad - based on such a small sample.
I'm guilty of not submitting a single review, but I do try and rate the ones that I find helpful.

Over 18, Australia

The forum is superfluous. I don't really see the need to talk here. There are better sites for this, be it a Lego related site in ones home language, or the forum focused sites.

>>> I would appreciate a Bricklink-link! That is a feature I miss a lot - to know what bricks are in the set.
So the link should go to the INVENTORY of the set. (and can I have these two lines in bold? ;-)

I can understand that ebay links help running the site by gaining small amounts of money, but if I want to buy something off ebay, I certainly would NOT follow a link to an auction that is visible for miriads of AFOLS, creating more competitors on this auction than necessary.

My nearly 500 sets have been bought from all over the world. I'd love to see 'little flags' in the my sets area to easily reference where i bought them from as opposed to having that as text in the advanced notes. i find that the advanced notes arent really relevant to my collection ie, model bagged up or state or condition etc. I prefered as it was before as a simple text screen (but with a little flag would be nice).

Some set reviews are quite simply dumb or i'll informed. have them canned.

Please, please please give us little flags in the my sets.

The number one thing that I think need improvement is the database. The pre-1970 database is terrible at best. It's incomplete or non-existent. As a short term goal it would be wonderful to see 1965-1970 completed, with the Samsonite sets. Long term should be 1958-1970 or even better 1949-1970. I realize this is a lot of work, but would love to see the short term goal realized in the coming year.

Over 18, United States

I think the forum is sometimes rude when a topic may have been discussed before, or the topic is posted under the wrong category and people basically attack the poster. I have not had it happen to me, but seeing the responses by some, I feel bad for them. Some people may be turned off the site as it may be an error or they are just so excited to ask a question or share some news.

To improve the home page, you could maybe have a simple options on that page that allow you to filter the amazon region updates. I still don't know how to turn them off (I know its in a forum topic or comment section somewhere but I can't find it now).

A new feature I would love would be if I could see the sets the different amazon sites will deliver to my home country. I know it is probably unreasonable, but it would save me so much time constantly adding items to my cart and checking out, to see whats available, or if the availability has changed.

Pictures in forum chats that people upload are to small to look at and I can't modify the size. Examples include the recent topic http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/1929/show-us-your-layouts. Many people don't use online file sites like flicker.

It seems that Brickset has a lack of Canadian pricing/release information about older sets. I know that you already have Canadian prices for a lot of the newer sets, but having said prices for older sets as well would be useful for reference. Also, it seems that the Canadian prices are listed when browsing, but not when you click on a set to look at it's individual entry. It would be nice to have the price information (and the price/piece ratio) on the products own page.

It would also be nice to have a Canadian Amazon watch.

Another thing I would suggest: having a link to FBTB reviews (where available) in the reviews section. I find their reviews in particular to be very thorough and useful, and it'd be nice to have a direct link there.

Anyway, just thinking off the cuff as there's not a lot that needs improving on the site. Although I would love those ebay ads at the top to disappear.

Also would prefer more options with the advanced set collections........like MOCs and the ability to record set expansions (thru MOCS or partial sets eg extra train carriage). This way I dont have to keep 2 separate listings of my Lego collection (sets & MOCS).......I would rather keep a single list thru Brickset.

If there was someway to catalog all the pieces from each set, so that I would know exactly how many I had of each piece and their color and so forth. I understand it is a massive undertaking, but it would be incredibly awesome. I also don't know it there is a way to see a list of all sets by piece count, not just each year or theme... I have not used the forum yet, simply because I do not want to make another login, but that is a minor annoyance.

Lately it seems as if the site has been taken over by Amazon sales. I'm fairly new to the site, less than a year, and if I remember correctly the site was more geared to reviewing Lego sets and discovering soon to be released sets. I know the site has more purpose than what I mentioned, but it just seems as if Amazon.com has begun to take over the direction of the site. That said I visit the site almost every day to check for new sets and sales... Keep up the good work and thanks for listening to us!

Based on my previous comments, it would almost be nice to have a specific tab for sales. To take it a step further, within the sales tab you could have specific countries listed so we wouldn't have to sort through irrelevant sales depending on where we are located. It can be difficult finding in the home page due to all the other information that's available there.

Ebay banner. Even when i log in it does not change the sets showing. I have approx. 140 things on my wanted list and many of them are sets from the last year or two. I can search on ebay and find them however the banner never shows them. I have deleted histroy, cookies, refreshed etc and it still does not work as advertised. I would like to see the ability to change the content of that be it tabbed or otherwise. Perhaps even user content (I.E. MOC's, craigslist searches, Flikr streams, etc) that would be controlled via our profiles. I would really appreciate the ability to sort the minifig galleries much like we can the sets. I don't know about the usefulness of the ebay bar on the front page--it's not something I ever pay attention to, and so I would favor getting rid of it and simply reducing the number of features between the top of the page and the news. Then again, you've already said it's temporary.

The Amazon watch thingys in the news feed are terrible. I can't say enough BAD things about these. I know, you can "turn them off" BUT I don't keep myself logged in ALL the time. And, my cache gets cleared fairly often. So, upon every return to brickset, I am once again bombarded with these amazon sale alerts. Terrible. Most annoying.... Brickset Mobile. Seems you can't turn these annoying amazon ads off on brickset mobile.

Truthfully, huw... Brickset was my favorite site to visit daily, the one I looked forward to the most. Used to be sooo much fun, when series 1-3 came out, keeping track of where people were finding them, etc. Used to LOVE LOVE LOVE the site. Now, with these Amazon sale reminders... I DREAD coming to the site. Don't even care if I visit anymore. Which, is truly sad. That I've found other lego related sites/blogs that I enjoy now more than brickset.

I understand you get revenue by linking to these websites, but, seriously, the amazon alerts are a DISGRACE to brickset's AWESOMENESS. Please, do away with them for good.

The front new page seems somewhat redundant with the forum at times. I wish they could be merged somehow into one stop shop.

I don't like the ebay links. The amazon bargain watch is good; however, the frequent news stories talking about the new deals seems redundant and people can just click on the link to see all the bargains at amazon. Maybe there is some kind of cookie tool that could highlight the link if new deals are available that they had not viewed yet.

I am still looking forward to the completed Star Wars minifig image database.

I'd still love to see a small and simple filtering mechanism at the top of set list pages (search results pages). Just a few drop down lists for year (including all), theme (including all), owned or not, wanted or not, etc. that would allow me to quickly broaden or narrow my result set. The links on the right side bar provide some of this, but I find it somewhat clunky (in contrast to most of the rest of the site which is has very high usability).

I know its been said a lot already, but I'm not in love with the ebay panel on the front page. Like others, I really liked being able to monitor the lego shop panel even if it was a little behind. And the ebay links I get, even for the sets I want, are rarely of any interest since they are often overpriced or not MISB. At the least, it would be great if you could make it a user configurable option to have either the ebay panel or the lego shop panel shown. Come to think of it, you could probably make the entire front page a configurable dashboard with widgets and such, but I know that would be a big effort.

Over 18, United States

Not a fan of the ebay bar, but then I haven't got a profile and wish list for it to work from, I might like it better if it identified something relevant for me. Not really missing the "new at lego.com" bar, I don't think I've ever bought from lego.com.

One addition that would be fantastic would be listing prices in Australian dollars as well. As it stands, I and other Australian users have to run around several other sites to try and get those answers, so adding such a field would be incredibly helpful.

Additionally, there seems to be something wrong with the "Info" submission field on set pages - it's never worked for me in that the submitted information never seems to go through.

On a similar note, would it be possible to accept a submission feature to add absent primary database information about an already listed set if said information is absent? For instance, there's a fairly old set which as such has no product description as per the LEGO Shop ones on every post-2007 page. If someone had access to, say, a contemporary catalogue providing a description of that set, or had a saved record of an old LEGO Shop listing's description, then they could submit the data for moderator review, whereupon it would be added to that set's profile if deemed appropriate. Functionality like that would be nice, but it's not urgent by any means.

I don't like the eBay banner at the top of the site. It would be better with that removed. It seems some older sets and accessories are missing, it would be nice to have that updated.

I think it would be great to have the ability for brickset to show how much you paid for sets (what you enter into the advanced collection manager) and show that next to the total retail prices of the sets you own. It would also be neat for the trade function that is listed in the advanced collection manager to work. Also, it would be nice that if you do not check that you own the minifigs to a set on the advanced collection manager that the minifigs from that set would not show up in your minifig collection.

I like how the new Kingdoms sets are categorized as a subtheme of Castle and you can find all of the sets easily. I think if you could do the same with Town and City to have them merged it would be better. If you could add a third layer to set categorization (Town->City->Police, etc) I think it would work out fine.

Overall, great work on the site.

The new additions to the homepage (Amazon price updates, eBay at the top) just scream "Give me more associate referrals by clicking on my stuff!! Pretty please!". While I appreciate that you need to pay for the site's costs (And possibly get a little bit extra on the side), I don't feel that whoring out the front page is the best way to do it. It was certainly my first thought after I saw the updates for the first time.

As they say, content is king, and plastering your front page with what are essentially ads is a good way to drive away new users, and as an existing user, I've turned all the updates off. :) (Ill manually go and look at them when I want to)

I don't mind the links on the product pages though. If I'm looking at a set, I certainly want to know where I can get it for and how much.

That's pretty much my only substantial complaint though!

Whatever happened to the ability to expand search? When I'm searching by year, then click a theme on the right, it isn't possible to then search through the different years for that theme. For example, I might click the Browse tab > Sets released in 2012 > Technic, and I can't then easily expand the search so I can look at all Technic sets by year. I have to go back to the browse menu. It's a very minor detail but it would be more efficient when browsing.

What about eliminating that spot entirely and moving "New in the Database" to the top? I don't see any reason there have to be two banners at the top of that page.

I like the Data Mining features. I would be interested in expanding that to have more flexibility, so that I could put in my own combinations of characteristics to seach for. For example, maintaining the options for Most Owned, Most Wanted, etc., and allowing for selection (or exclusion) by theme, price, year released, current availability, etc. Some examples might be "Sets Most Owned, of those currently available, not including Star Wars or Harry Potter" or "Sets most wanted in Kingdoms theme" or "Sets least owned, of those released since 2010 with RRP $50 or more."

I like pretty much everything of the site (in fact i visit the homepage at least three times a day) but it would be better if one could have instructions for combiners models, too. It's a pain in the brick to searxh the web for pics or PDFs to build combiners and alternate models.

The "bargain watch" news articles need their own page and shouldn't really show up on the main news. There's far too many of them which are of no interest to me presonally. I know that specific news can be excluded but I like to read news which may not directly affect me but I draw the line at hearing about sales all over the world. If people want to check all the active sales on one page then they will, I don't think they need to clog up the whole main page.
