The 2011 Brickset user survey: Age not specified

Question:
What ONE thing do you think should be done to improve Brickset?

i am not a fan of the amazon updates, but only because i am in Australia and cannot take advantage of them.

Australia

Flash would be an Interesting an idea and the minifigure galleries should be finished

Australia

It's really frustrating not being able to participate in the fourms just because i'm 13.(It's rather an insult to our intelligence) I think that 13-16 aged people should be allowed to participate in the fourms as well. I've stopped using the site as much because most of the discussions are on the forum.

United States

-

Finland

I don't know. I think it already haves lots of things.
But you could save the lego.com instructions and upload it yourselves, so the links will never disappear while the site keeps up.

Brazil

I dont like stickered torso being omitted because bricklink's database is set up to sell both stickered and blank torsos. The stickered versions are the instruction versions.

Australia

I think news could be improved more. Maybe consider more people to post news or a community news posting system?

United States

The site doesen't tell you a set's current value

United Kingdom

The search is not very good for finding things that you are unsure of the name of. It doesn't find things that are close to what you want. I guess we all get used to Google and it's "did you mean" feature that we expect it everywhere.
Not very much Australian news.

Australia

The forum needs a really big up date. Canadians need more news for them.

Canada

More minifig gallereys.

United States

a lot of doubles (key chains, etc)

United States

The overall site appearance needs a redo. It reminds me too much of the 90s. Basically it feels outdated.

United States

There should be a link to other websites LEGO related.

United States

some people are very combative sometimes in the forums. Love this site ! More bling?

Canada

The borders of the website design are boring, how about coordinating themes for each month?

United States

Price of sets that are no longer sold.

More detailed images as you get on lego shop where you can zoom in.

I find this site better than lego shop.

A shop for people to sell to each other to rival e bay (though am sure that is complicated).

United Kingdom

Maybe you could have people be able to add their own creations. Also you could improve on being able to find news stories from the past.

Canada

One think I can think of right now would be an Individual peice section. Labling every peice made by lego past and present. Not saying each sets peice content, nor color or anything, but just more so a list of all bricks made.

United States

Block Alemas from posting inane comments on EVERY single new article. Other than that no complaints.

United States

It would be nice to be able to import large collections via CSV or other text format. Entering new sets into an "Owned" collection is tedious, particularly a very large collection starting from scratch (I put several hours into it before giving up, realizing I'd entered less than 5% of my collection at that point).

United States

There's nothing majorly wrong - the sites fast enough and all the link work. Carry on as you are, please.

United Kingdom

More pictures of the sets.

United States

Live chat room

United States

I really have nothing for this field.

United States

I think the site is fine just how it is...

United States

I can't think of anything that needs to be improved at this point. I would like a feature that displays the DPCI for Target, but that may be a little difficult and too specialized.

United States

The eBay ticker seems kind of useless (sorry). LEGO items on eBay refresh so quickly due to the volume, that the ticker is not really helpful. Aside from that, everything else is great.

United States

Don't have any issues with the rest of the site

United Kingdom

My NOT-favourite thing:
- liks to eBay; Useless for me, and takes much space and download time.

Poland

maybe a page where you can visit other sites like eurobricks of brothers brick and othe lego shopping websites

United Kingdom

Less focus on sales from 3rd party vendors (I feel like one of the main goals of the main page is to get me to buy something, from Ebay, Lego.com, etc.). I would prefer more emphasis on creating trading opportunities with other members, like SWAPADVD.com or such.

United States

About what I don't like, there's nothing I dislike. And about new features, I can't think about something new, except one that can show you the part list of the sets, like Peeron, but this, I think will require a lot of work.
All in one, I really like this site and I wish all the luck. Thank you!

Romania

linkage between reviews and forum .. currently 2 seperate worlds .. chat about a set could be associated with that set
search is very 'literal'
overall IA needs tidying (happy to help)

United Kingdom

Getting to have too many ads

Australia

Sometimes images are too small. That's about it.

United States

I'm not sure at the moment. When I think if something I'll let you know. :D

United States

Don't like the ebay feed on the main page, preferred the lego shop feed.

Australia

When a year is typed in and a item number comes up instead. Also more old lego sets

United States

I wish you guys had a way for me to put photos up of my collections.

United States

- more canadian information - looks like that is covered now. Thanks.

Canada

lego

Sweden

In the forum, list the newest responses first. So you don't have to sort through the list to get to the newest ones.

United States

The forums are a bit messy

United Kingdom

not sure, unfortunatley.

United States

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

United States

Some sets take a while before reviews are received but that's not your fault. 2. Layout is good, familiar, friendly, but beginning to look dated.

Singapore

Daily email of latest news. I check the site every few days and often miss offers.

United Kingdom

I still do NOT like ebay thing. I think you should add a portion that shows what is new on brickset

United States

I like everything as is.

United States

I was slightly offended when Huw talked about that "don't buy Lego from Hong Kong" thing. Just saying. I also think you can add sets without photos in the "New additions to database" so we can know the coming sets' name without searching the website.

Hong Kong

GET RID OF EBAT BAR AND BRING BACK NEW AT LEGO SHOP!!!

United Kingdom

not enough soap

United States

Only see American news when in america.

United States

More localized news, spanish, ...

Spain

I sure would like to see the bricklink connection integrated into the for sale sections.

United States

THE ABILITY TO ADD NEWS DOESNT WORK SO I CANT ADD NEWS NEW PICS OF HERO FACTORY 2012 http://www.majhost.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=254747

United Kingdom

I really like the set database. I'm a little bugged with all the shopping updates as I don't feel it's the strong point of the site. I would like to see a news feed.

United States

On you'r app you need to add a stay logged in button And add profile settings oh and can you make it so we can upload are own designs please and thank you

United States

Nothing comes to mind.

United States

Bigger resolution pictures. And more news on sales. Us lego buyers need to save money too!

United States

I do not like the Amazon and Ebay ads. That's why I rated the home page lower.

Suggestion for an added feature: A general notes section (limited characters) under my individual sign in, perhaps in the "Sets I Want" section, where I could type text to track set numbers that have been announced somewhere in the brick world but that are not yet official enough to be in the Brickset database yet to mark as "want". It would be a private notes section, so it would not be violating any courtesy with TLG. It would help users with wanting and being ready to buy.

United States

I like to be kept informed about the amazon europe sales. however I find to have it displayed in the same way as other news kinda makes the frontpage ugly, maybe a special dedicated page or a small current list at the bottom of the main page.

I like the acm, I use it to add the price i payed for my sets, the userinterface is pretty consistent with the 2 buttons (note & acm) under the number owned, except on the page of the set itself, maybe it could be added there too. instead of needing to go specially to the acm section on the page.

Belgium

images of older sets

United Kingdom

Prices on deals that no longer exist. Some of the items on the alerts stay up hours after the deal is over.

United States

Quality of reviews, but that takes time to fix and "upgrade" as a community.

Taiwan, Province of China

What happened to the years in production for the sets? It used to show when it was released and until what date it was available? Now that seems to be gone. I use that information quite a bit. It's one of the main reasons I come to the site. That way I can determine on out of production sets how much of a chance I have at purchasing it.

It would be great to have that information back in the database. Very disappointed it was removed.

Thanks!

United States

I dont like how reviews are made. I also dont like how pictures can be viewed.

Slovenia

You should expand the minifig gallery. Sometimes I look for a minifig and it's not there.

United States

I think that when you view a set, reviews should be the default tab being shown. Also, please add some list or info exclusively on the classic impulse sets that were sold in 1995-1999.

Poland

Amazon.it. Not sure whether it's just me or not, but I can't see it.

Germany

- The reviews need to go through some kind of quality control. The ones that have been written by kids are, sadly, either illegible or usually no help to me at all.

- Improved image 'pop-over' when you point your cursor over an image.

- Profile page could be a bit cleaner.

United Kingdom

- To set prioritys in the list 'Sets you want'
- To search in the informations of the ACM
- so, you must have the prices in other currency, than US $. So the user can change the currency, you see an the 'your sets' page
-

Germany

The forum is too rudimentary and because of that I have not used it.

Brunei Darussalam

The country dependent things should be configurable by the user if the user is not satisfied with the decisions based on their IP address.

Denmark

I still don't understand the ratings. Are they based on the member reviews or are they your ratings, Huw? I still haven't been able to find anything that explains them. For instance, set 2507 Fire Temple has a rating of 3.8. There is only one review and that person gave this set 5 bricks in all categories. Shouldn't that average out to a 5, not Everyone's Rating: 3.750?

United States

Really don't no. Keep up the good work guys!

Netherlands

Nothing the site is good.

Netherlands

Honestly, there's not alot I'd change personally - sometimes the browsing of sets gets messy when you are in one theme then want to shift over to another one and it feels like it jumps to a slightly confusing page layout to do it. But again, this is minor - I don't have any major grumbles at this time ;)

United States

Perhaps not making Lego Shop news so US/UK-centric.

New Zealand

Not a lot needs to be improved. I would like to see more functionality from the 'collection' feature. Perhaps a 'total number of sets' or 'total number of pieces' in someone's collection? Not urgent - and probably would take a bit of time to write the code. It's a 'want' not a 'need'.

Australia

I have little if no negative feedback. Keep doing what you are doing!

United States

Pretty perfect all around.

United States

Sets description seems to have dissapeared. Would love to the dimensions of the set mention in its page.

Singapore

I can't think of anything to improve. And the improvements that have come along during the past year, I feel, have not impeded usability of the site and in many ways have provided useful tools. I would probably recommend not doing a design/look-feel change to the site unless it serves a functional purpose.

United States

None

United States

Website has taken a step back lately with the deluge of amazon, eBay, etc deals. That's too much. As a computer user who wipes my cookies regularly, logging in just to get rid of them is a hassle.

United States

No eBay 'ticker'. It's just annoying as it doesn't show the better deals and the Lego bar it replaced was quite useful...

United Kingdom

I whole heartedly love the site, but i honestly find myself not coming back as much. Why? Because of the way you are hitting everyone over the top of the head with BUY FROM AMAZON, BUY BUY BUY BUY. It has become so annoying to me, i purposely don't come to the site as much. I know you need to make money, but it used to be a good level, you had your buttons here and there, but now you are funneling it to us way too much.

Yes thank god you put the options in to not show that on the news, and believe me, i do filter it. But this is as bad as putting those google links all over the site. I know its your site, and you need to do what you need to do, but for me, it just killed it for me. I am sorry

United States

The eBay bar. It's pointless, the results are crappy, and the new additions to legoshop.com bar was more genius. Maybe just put the legoshop.com bar back, and Amazon notices to only subscribers (hint, hint!). I'd also like a tagging system instead of looking for relevance in only names for all sets, as some have very different names.

United States

I think it would be fun to be able to see the number of pieces other users have, if they are sharing their collection. I think that deals posted in the news should only be shown in the contry (s) that they apply to. Otherwise things are a bit clutered on the news. I think there should be buttons to go to more specific types of news, especially going back to the country deals thing.

United States

I am not thrilled about the Ebay scroll at the top of the page. If people want to look for overprices sets, they can find their way to Ebay.

United States

I, like many others would be very keen for some kind of trading page to be added, and I know it has been considered in the past. I think it would be very useful to Brickset users and would save cash all round, meaning more Lego for everyone! Also, I think occasionally the review moderation can be a bit too relaxed. I have seen on a few occasions reviews by people who clearly do not have the set, and have never had the set, making judgements based on guesswork and what others have said. I understand though this is a difficult rule to enforce.

United Kingdom

Really don't have anything to add here.
If you want to really help manage inventory of pieces then being able to also manage my pick-a-brick purchases would be good too.

Hong Kong

i think the site needs a new look

United States

I feel that my older stuff is not represented here, Peeron and Toysperiod have alot of the older stuff, that I hope you will eventually get updated. Examples, sets 2, 113, 114, 135, 720, 520. Overall, you have a great site, my number one site!

United States

I don't like the new eBay feature on the homepage. While I realize the feeds from Legoshop were delayed by two days, the flip side is that they displayed products (like gear) that are lesser known.

United States

I don't like the new Now on Ebay section that replaced the New at Legoshop area. I don't constantly visit Legoshop (unless I'm buying something) and I enjoyed seeing what new sets were now available there without having to actually navigate the Legoshop page. In addition I no longer do Ebay for Lego purchases of any kind thanks to Bricklink so this section is really of no value to me at all. Please bring back the New at Legoshop section again!!

United States

Main page could use some design to make it more appealing. Could use a better layout. More real estate for the Lego set pictures. The Random set could take a more prominence spot on the front page, kinda like a little daily featurette. Take a look at what UrbanToronto.ca has done. They pretty much started with the exact same DB and forum on buildings in Toronto and had a major facelift this year to make the front page more attractive.

Maybe a Facebook app linkage to add another social network aspect to it. Let people share their brickset item on FB.

Canada

remove the amazon and ebay rubbish, it severely cheapens the site to non registered users.

It looks so poor when the entire page is covered in advertisements.

Australia

I a boycotting the fourm because of the high age limit, and the reviews still need improvement of quality.

United States

The design of the website, is plain. It doesn't bother me too much, but I feel it leaves a lot of room to be improved.

United States

Um.. I liked the old banner (Newly released sets) better than the ebay one, but that's just because I have no money anyways :P

United States
