8289-1: Fire Truck

Build a realistic rescue vehicle!

This authentic model is ready to fight any fire! Open the control panel on the side of the truck and use the 3 separate gears to operate the aerial lift with ultimate precision. Adjust the boom incline, angle and rotation -- the aerial lift raises to over 21" high and rotates a full 360 degrees! Working outriggers lower to stabilize the truck! Use the gear at the back to control the steering! Rebuild into an equally authentic light-duty rescue truck! Includes building instructions for 2 models.

Challenging and fun!

Posted by jakelongdragon in United States on 25 February 2009

This set will take you some time to finish but it's completely worth it! It has lots of various working parts and pieces which you can use not just to build the 2 models proposed but as many other models as you can imagine. Because the set has many different technic parts (instead of just a lot of the same pieces) it's really fun to experiment. I got this set for Christmas 2007 and I am still not tired of playing with it. I have re-built the set it to make many other types of trucks and engines, including a red-colored Mater (complete with the eyes and forward teeth!)

Note: My parents got it at the sale price so it made the whole deal even more sweet!

Was a bit sceptic bu now like it a lot

Posted by Erik van D in Netherlands on 04 January 2009

Got this set last Christmas. I picked this specific set, mainly because of the budget I was allowed to spend (about 50 euro). This set had the most parts and functionality but I was not so convinced about the off road look.

But I was wrong! As more often the pictures on the internet do not do the model justice. I is just great. It makes a nice display piece and even better, my 2,5 year old daughter likes it to to play with!

The build was pretty straight forward, the only difficulty was the somewhat difficult to spot difference between dark grey and black in the instructions. But that is the case in more of the modern instructions.

The model is fully functional and works a treat. Also nice that the beam can be operated from both sides of the truck. The model could have done with a few more old school bricks.

All in all a splendid set, if you can find one buy it!

Fun, Excellent Value

Posted by nickhart on 02 August 2008

This is a great set, especially considering the sale price of US$50. The primary model has some neat features and is fun to build. Plus it has a ton of pieces, which means lots of possibilities for your own designs. A few minor complaints: It'd be nice if they used painted pieces instead of decals. Oddly, there was one painted piece, a control panel for the crane's little suspended platform. Also, looking at the finished model, I feel like the wheels aren't to scale. It might look better if they were 5-10mm wider in diameter. I'm mostly nit-picking. It's an excellent set and a great value. Get it on sale while it lasts!

Great looking model but would like an alternative to the cherry picker

Posted by 126x on 16 July 2008

I somehow missed out on this when released, but fortunately I notices Toys R us UK, had a batch on display as recently as March 2008, so I didn't hesitate in paying the £50 for it. A very good looking model, the red colouring sets it off nicely. Clever features and one of the better realistic models, however I would have prefered an alternative to the cherry picker - I'm working on a ladder system which still uses the clever raising mechanicisms. However I can fully understand the Lego designers need to include the feature.

Took me so long to build, but worth it

Posted by Zapp Brannigan in Canada on 10 April 2008

I got this set for X'mas 2006, and it took me 12 hours to build. But the results were so great! It's very realistic in all parts and comes with functional outriggers and cherry picker, all powered by cool and working gear systems. The wheels are an all new design. Besides the rotating part, I didn't have any trouble building this at all. The cherry picker can ascend, descend and rotate 360 degrees. The truck also comes with a steering mechanism. The only problem is that the front, white part falls off too easily. Overall great set and worth the money.
