I recently rebuilt this set. I like the complexity of the build with all airhoses and axles. This build took me about 6-8 hours I think.Just like some other reviewers I installed an airtank since I keep pumping. The backhoe-arm has only one cylinder and needs a lot of pressure to move upwards. Two cylinders would have been better.I think I'll build a compressor to power this machine.
This is a natural evolution of 8862, but a much tougher and practical solution. This set introduced me to many bespoke pieces, which although slightly dubious of, turned out to the making of this model. Quite a complex model to make, considering its size - its quite easy to mix up the pneumatic pipes, but worth the effort. Don't listen to the purists who say this is not real technics! Lego have moved the brand forward and this is quite possibly my favourite set.
This is the best set if your into pneumatics. Youll never get more for your money. 10 (!) pumps power this model and the building is a bit tricky because of the lot of hoses you have to connect, so be sure to check every function before continuing (like lego says on an extra sheet in the set). the reward for the work is a perfectly working modell. pneumatics are fast because of the dual pump mechanism used. to play with alle the functions like on the real one is really great fun, you wont be dissapointed here.
This is such an accurate depiction of a backhoe...I am very impressed. I like the new style pneumatic cylinders, and all the functionality. It even has the curved "excavator style" boom of modern Cats and Deeres. Bottom line: big, fun to build, challenging, well designed...except for when pumping the pneumatics up, I feel like I will break the front axles.
